“Rustic lodge right on the ocean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

We stayed here for several nights on business, and had a great time. The grounds are nicely maintained, and the building itself feels like a fishing lodge more than a hotel.

The restaurant had a nice wine list at reasonable prices, and the food was pretty good too considering how far from anywhere Puerto Chacabuco is. It is not fancy gourmet, but is solid home style fare. There isn't much else locally, so the restaurant here is basically the only choice.

This would be a great place to relax and take in the scenery, while doing day trips to some the surrounding areas.

This hotel was part of a tour by catamaran to San Rafael glacier. The entire experience was unforgetable. The hotel swimming pool is small, it is true but we enjoyed it with little fountains and chaise lounges in the water. Food was excellent and our room was very nice with an outstanding view. The trip to San Rafael glacier was a highlight our our month in Chile. Everything about it was wonderful: the magnificant glacier and icebergs in glorious shades of blue, the fun of seeing them up close from our rubber raft, the food was superb and plentiful and delicious drinks which were served throughout the 8 hour voyage, the live music and the fun of watchng the Chileanos do the handkerchief dance.

The company that owns the Loberias del Sur built this hotel as part of an organization that runs catamaran ships right out of the hotel for a day visit to the amazing Laguna de San Rafael Icefields. They also own a hacienda nearby the hotel which includes some incredibly beautiful walks, and a marvelous lake.
The Loberias del Sur Hotel is far superior in all aspects to the local hotel standards (this said by a Chilean born person: me).
We had a nice very comfortable room, an ample washroom and excellent beds.
The dining room is nice and ample, meals are very good.
The hotel offers an indoors heated swimming pool with diverse fountains and Jacuzzis and a very complete gym with sauna baths. Free wi fi is also available.
Basically the whole program includes the day trip to Laguna de San Rafael (wich deserves a separate review) and a full day barbecue and walk through their hacienda called Parque Aiken.
We stayed for a total of 7 days at this hotel to get a chance to visit diverse places and towns nearby.

Glaciar Express tour (3 days-2 nights) is fine if you plan just to know Laguna San Rafael and its Glaciar. I do recommend 100%.
Day 1
Hotel is beautiful and cozy. Its staff is awesome (Rafael and Marcela are the best) but dont expect a great infrastructure as swimming pool is pretty small in comparison to the number of rooms... but that's ok if you dont plan to spend your day on it. Still speaking about the hotel, dont let escape the chance to try a delicious milk pudding as dessert. (Food is ok but nothing terrific)

Day2
No words to describe this amazing tour. Get your camera ready to take good shots of the Sea Lions (ship stops some minutes).
Although the trip is a little bit stressful, you worth every penny when you get in the glaciar. Be prepared to get in the boat if climate helps. (here is my tip: if you dont get satisfied, just drop by Rafael and ask for an extra turn. In my case our boat didnt pass thru the small pieces of glaciar and I tought this should be the same for everyone since trip is not cheap)

Day3
Nothing amazing at Parque Aiken, except if you are a biologist or anything similar.
You can see in the park the famous calafate and after all an terrific lunch served with Sopaipilla and lamb.
Once you are full enough get ready to take you airplane back home :(

Good Hotel at this small and ugly town and Port, Chacabuco.
The restaurant is fine and it has a wide variety of fish and meat dishes. By the way is the only restaurant in this port. The hotel is big and very comfortable. Bit expensive

The hotel's price is what you would pay for something really better. Rooms are small, with a dirty carpet and strong bad smell. Had big issues with hot water that made me loose almost an hour of business time. The restaurant is very expensive and closes too early, some US$20 plates were surprisingly bad presented. Managers failed to solve the booking issues I had, and instead gave me a bad response with a bad manner. Had to request a room change after I perfectly heard endless conversations from the family next room.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view to the sea. Some rooms have no view at all.
