“Excellent quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

I have been to A Baker for lunch twice during the last few days and I think that the quality of their food is excellent. Dishes are very well presented; certainly not big portions, but using the best fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is casual and trendy, and the staff friendly and relaxed. I really like it!

“Terrible service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

This place opened to great fanfare in Canberra a couple of months ago, and we ended up going there for coffee one weekend morning. Although the decor is edgy and interesting, the service was woeful. I'm sure that this place will find its niche, but it won't be with us.

“A modern cafe with a winning formula”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

It's only been open a few weeks but, wow, were we impressed with our first visit to enjoy breakfast and enjoy we did. The menu is interesting, not just your typical breakfast fare. We had 63 degree egg with Yass mushrooms (really tasty with a hint of truffles) and a boiled egg with avocado and rye toast. Also tried some toasted cornbread with feijoada marmalade and several coffees each. Really tasty food, flavoursome coffee, good value, great atmosphere, plenty of tables, friendly staff, outdoor areas that will be great in warm weather and, to top it off, all their bread and pastries are baked fresh on the premises. We took home several loaves and some biscuits to have with dinner. Located in New Acton, A. Baker is located near the CBD, close to the ANU and in the middle of a hotel complex for visitors. Parking can be an issue but we always seem to find a 2 hour free spot within a block of the cafe. We'll be back for more breakfasts and to try lunch and maybe dinner. A modern venue with a winning formula.
