“Great vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

This was our 2nd time vacationing at Ocean Blue & Sand. We traveled with several families (17 people) Noone was ever bored! There are plenty of activities during the day and the activity coordinators were upbeat and fun. The beach is simply beautiful and very clean. The food is good- we enjoyed the beach restaurant the best, however it was closed Mon, Tues, Wed. The staff throughout was pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed our time with Rafael and Cristian from guest services. They really made our vacation memorable!!

This was our second stay at Ocean Blue but the first time we brought our children, ages 22 25 & 28 since becoming H10 Privilege Club members. We all had a wonderful time at the beach and pool areas. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable with refrigerators well stocked with beverages. All of the staff are super friendly and helpful. We personally enjoyed getting to know Mercedes in the beach area and the antics of Manuel one of our waiters and quite Yoel who always had a smile at breakfast and kept my glass full of the most delicious fruit juice!

The pool side activities were alot of fun. My daughter and I enjoyed the daily water aerobics. The poolside games were also fun. There was an excellent parade to mark the opening of the World Cup games.

In the evenings, the Buccanero an Blue Moon restaurants were our favorites and had delicious food. At the Buccanero we were serenaded by a mariachi trio who sang many beautiful Spanish songs. The Mexican restaurant was also very good.

We also enjoyed snorkeling, ocean kayaking, swimming with dolphins and shopping trips during our stay. Everyone was entertained, relaxed and well fed.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014 via mobile

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Ocean Blue. The hotel is pretty close to the airport and is around a 20-25 minute drive.

I'll include all the good and bad points in with each section.

On arriving you will see the lobby and the rest of the hotel is perfect condition.

Check In - the check in is very quick and you will be greeted with a glass of fruit juice and given a map showing you where everything is around the hotel and all the restaurant opening times. You have to then find your own way to your room using the map you have been given. Your luggage will be delivered approx 20 mins later. The person who delivers your luggage will stand in your room until you tip him (pretty awkward and very annoying since he's just doing his normal job).

Rooms - the rooms all come equipped with a safe, double bed, mini fridge filled with drinks and beer, coffee making facilities, jacuzzi / shower combined and 2 whb's. The rooms are decorated to a good standard and are cleaned every day as well as the mini fridge being restocked. The safe is free to use which is a bonus.

Wifi - the hotel has just introduced free wifi which is a major bonus. It runs a little slow at peak times but then again it's free so you can't really complain and your on holiday so why would you be on the internet much.

Food - the hotel has a main buffet restaurant and 5 a la cartes. Steak house, Italian, Mexican, route 66 and a French (I believe this one is charged extra although we didn't eat here so could be wrong)

Main restaurant - breakfast, lunch and tea is served here. All meals have a great selection of food that caters for all nationalities. There is a different theme every night although burgers, chips, rice, pasta etc are on every day and night.

Steak house - probably the best a la carte restaurant and many others will agree. If you want to eat here early you will have to be there at 5.45pm to queue up otherwise you will be waiting over an hour anytime after this up until around 9pm. Steaks are a decent cut and comes served with various sides.

Route 66 - this restaurant serves mainly greasy food such as burgers, fried chicken etc. The food was edible although not great but still worth a visit for the experience.

Mexican - this serves typical Mexican food. Fajitas, tortillas, nachos etc. The food is of a good quality and definitely worth a visit.

We didn't visit any of the other a la carte restaurants so can't comment on them. You don't have to book to eat in the a la cartes and just turn up so this can often mean you are waiting around unless you get there at 6pm when they open. It would be a lot better if you reserved your places like most other hotels. Overall the food selection at the hotel is very good.

Bars - the hotel has around 15 bars throughout the hotel. All of them serve a good selection of drinks. All the alcohol is decent brands and not the cheap stuff you normally receive in all inclusive hotels. The drink glasses are very small meaning you will either have to get 2 drinks at once of you will be constantly going to the bar. A few people brought there own travel cups which was a lot bigger and a good idea.

There is a coffee shop in the hotel (mikes coffee shop) this serves all different types of tea's, coffees and deserts from 9am - 11pm.

Sports bar - the sports bar is open from dinner until 6am showing all different sports. Snacks are put on from 6pm -6am.

Entertainment - the reps work really hard all day long playing various different games around the pool and beach such as volleyball, football etc. There is a show on in the theatre every night which is either performed by the reps or outside entertainers. There is a beach party once a week depending on the weather which had some people doing tricks with fire and a limbo / dance competition. This is well worth a visit. The reps put on a pre-show before the main show and pull people from the audience to do dance offs and stuff. This was very funny and a great way to start the shows.

Pools - the hotel has 2 decent size swimming pools. One pool has games being played around it all day by the reps and tourists and the other is supposedly the quite pool although they are only around 10m apart so it isn't much quieter. If you want a poolside sun lounger around the 'quite' pool you will have to be up by 7am to reserve one otherwise you don't stand a chance. I would expect this in Europe with the Russians and Germans but this was being done by the English and became a joke. Both pools have a swim up bar which is covered over so you can sit in the shade and cool down.

Weather - the weather was great almost every day. It got cloudy at times but was still very hot (in the 30's). It rained several nights although this wasn't an issue as it was night time and cleared up by the morning.

Beach - the beach is equipped with 100's of sun beds and the sea is crystal clear. You can walk for miles in both directions past all the other hotels. The sand doesn't have any stones outside this hotel so sea shoes aren't required. There is a beach bar so you won't have far to walk for a drink.

Hotel grounds - the hotel is fairly big and there can be a good amount of walking throughout the day going back and fourth. The grounds are kept in immaculate condition and are being maintained everyday. There are 2 ponds with fish in that you can feed (just take some bread from the restaurant).

Casino - the hotel has its own casino that is open until the early hours of the morning. It has the usual casino games and it's own bar.

Arcade - the hotel has its own arcade building which has a bowling alley, pool tables, fuzz ball tables and various other games. This is a good place for kids and teens and can get busy in the evening.

Excursions - there is lots of excursions available which are reasonably priced such as boat trips, swimming with dolphins / sharks, scuba diving etc. I'd recommend the outback safari to see how the locals live. You will visit a local school which is support by the tour company.

One major downfall to Punta Cana is that you can't really walk out the hotel and visit the local town as there is nothing to really see / buy although this isn't the hotels fault.

There will be many more good points that I have missed but overall this was great holiday. I would return but it will be in 10-15 years time when the local town has been developed and you can go outside the resort.

My husband and I traveled here on the 5th June for 2 weeks, we were in Block 9 which overlooked the pool area. All the Brits seemed to be in either block 8 or 9 and block 9 also has the desk for the Thomson reps as well as a daily injection of coffee and cakes from Mikes coffee shop, a nice little touch after a hard day sunbathing.
Rooms were nice and clean as was the whole resort, staff were on the go all day and very friendly.
Food was good with plenty of choice for everyone, only thing that let it down was the bacon, one word, cremated.
We tried all the restaurants and our favorite was the Blue moon with the steak house running a close 2nd.the Mexican and Italian were good as well but sorry to say the service in route 66 let it down, we tried it twice and would never go back, and of course Mikes coffee shop, fantastic drinks and service. The sports bar staff we found to be quite rude and tended to serve the Brits last, ohh well not to worry once was enough for that lot.
Entertainment around the top pool was good and everyone seemed to have a great time, the only show we went to was the Lion King, not to our taste im afraid, but others seemed to be enjoying it.
The lobby bar area had either a singer or the guys dancing on a nightly basis, got a bit repetitive after a while, but they did draw in a crowd and we had a few laughs with them.
As for the guys in the lobby bar, they all worked their socks off, Sexy black, I miss you already, you make the best Lime Daiquiris in the world, you always had a smile and a hiya when we came to the bar, and never had to be told twice what we needed, they run a great team in this bar, sorry I cant remember all your names. Manuel who runs the pool bar in the quiet pool was also a star and make great drinks.
Stunning beach and yes you get asked to come in to view the venders shops on the beach, but a polite no thanks and they leave you alone, you also get the stalls set up 2 nights a week in the grounds around reception, same here, no thanks and they dont give you any hassle.
There are a couple of little buses that drive around picking you up from various areas around the resort, but to be honest it isn't that far to walk from the bottom to the top of the resort. On a Tuesday night all Thomson/First Choice holidaymakers have a special dinner on the beach, good chance to catch up with everyone.
There is also a daily free bus from the resort that will take you into the main shopping center where you can find all the designer shops with good prices. The bus leaves the resort 3 or 4 times a day and gives you a good 3 hours shopping, take plenty dollars with you as you will always find something to buy.
The room next to ours was being upgraded to a deluxe suite, I will post some picture as it was being done, stunning when complete.
We traveled from Glasgow on the Dreamliner "Alfie, all in all a good flight both ways, would defo recommend. If you have any questions please ask.

Room Tip: Pool view, Block 9 is good, email the Hotel with your choice, they do their best to get you what you...

We just got back after a weeks stay at Ocean Blue. This was a trip for the family celebrating our sons high school graduation. Our son is 18, daughter 20 and my husband and I in our 50's, to give you an idea of where the comments are coming from. I booked us Dominican Airport Transfers for roundtrip transportation $79 RT for the four of us, best price and extremely prompt. When you do go to their counter in the airport, they will give you info for excursions and a form to fill out with your return flight info on it and make an appointment to meet one of their people in the lobby the next morning. Unless you want to sign up for the excursions, don't go down there. I didn't meet with them because I had my voucher for the return trip and did not want any pressure into signing up for an excursion.
Checking in was very easy and welcoming. We arrived a little early so the rooms weren't ready, but our bracelets were put on, we were told to grab something to eat and come back. When we went back to the desk, we were given the keys and a map of where to go, all of our requests were met. I didn't know what villa to ask for, but we got Villa 8, second floor, which was a request, one king room and one double queen, also requests. Villa 8 overlooked the grounds and the end of the pool, that was a perfect location and quieter than staying right by the pool. The four of us thought the rooms were very nice, beds comfortable, temperature comfortable, and plenty of bathroom accessories. Restaurants were good, not great, but didn't have a bad meal. We stayed at another H10 resort in Mexico, Ocean Coral and Turquesa, where the food was a lot better. You will not have a problem with the food, there are many types of restaurants or go to the buffet.
The entertainment group are "CRAZY" fun!!!! I would go back to this resort just to see this group again. Scoopidoo (Luis), Super Juan, Minnie Me (Sammie) are the three that we personnaly got to know, but everyone of those guys are great and just want to make sure you have fun and get involved. If you don't want to get involved, hide!!! They are very persistent into trying to make you play the games and have a blast, they will even remember your names. These guys work extremely hard all day and then at night. This is true for the entire staff, all of them work 12 days on and three off. The 12 days on are all day, bartenders could be at one bar during the day, then you will see them at a different bar at night. Look for Sexy Black at the main lobby bar, he's great!! Show your appreciation by giving them a couple dollars here and there, also your housekeeper, they do really apprciate it.
As far as all the H10 reps walking around, they are not annoying. This is their job and they have to approach guests asking them to listen to what they have to offer. We said no thank you and that was it, none were rude or pushy.
Last but not least, book puntacanamike.com for a tour!!!! We always try to do something other than the big tours with a lot of people and where every other tour company are. You will not regret it. Go on his website and read about him and his tours, I think you'll decide to book one. Hope this was a very helpful review.............don't be hesitant, it's a fun place and you'll have a great time.

Room Tip: Lower number rooms are up by the restaurants, higher right at the pool. We were in 8 which was over...

This was our 2nd time at Ocean Blue and it is still our favorite. Although people have come and gone.... it stiill feels like coming home. Tha improvements to the lobby area are very nice. The grounds are impeccable, the people friendly, and all the workers from the bartenders to the entertainers are hard working and appreciative. Jose at the pool bar greeted us everyday with a smile... it was nice to reminisce with Sosa and Edwin in the lobby bar and they are still friendly and great to talk with.

Ocean Blue has always been our favorite resort and it was nice to return and share the experience with others that have added to our group. No complaints, no suggestions to improve, stay as you are and I hope to return soon.....
