“Beautiful Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

We were a group of 7. From 22-50 years old and each of us liked the facility for different reasons. The casino was ok, disco was fun, pools were great, beach had lots of activities and a place where you can book tours. We had the privilege suite and it was very nice and worth the extra expense. Everyone was nice at the facility and very accommodating. We had fun with the daily water Zumba/aerobics and the men in our group went on the tour with dune buggies/cigar rolling/town tour and enjoyed it. The boat party and aquarium was a good day trip too. The beach was OK but we stayed mostly in the pool which was clean and relaxing.

We also started a few water volley ball and water polo games. Everyone was relaxed and had a great time. There is a loud pool and a quite pool. Our group mostly stayed where there was more activities.

The restaurants were all good and having 5 men who have big appetites were very happy with the selections. The favorite was the steakhouse where each man ordered 2 filet mignons!

I had an accident, all my fault, fell and broke my leg. They were able to get me a wheelchair and still had a great vacation. There is a medical clinic there but I chose not to use it. There are golf carts that transfer people all over the resort if your having issues walking and the employee's are very polite.

Rather then going out of the resort for shopping, they have locals bring jewelry and cultural items into the resort for shopping in the evening while everyone is strolling, listening to music and choosing where to eat. It's nice to look at their items and speak to the locals, and of course they try to get the highest price for their items so a bit of negotiation on prices is expected.

Bring lots of single dollars with you for tips.

I loved going in May, not to many people and the weather was perfect!

Room Tip: Priviledge rooms are the way to go.

We just returned after a 6 night stay at the Ocean Blue & Sand Resort in Punta Cana. It's a great place with friendly and hard working staff, very well designed resort on a whole, great buffet options, the big pools, lovely beach and ofcourse the large bars to take care of your cocktail needs.I would love to go back to this place again.A special mention to a few of the staff..Kelvin at the lobby reception,Ramon in the buffet and many more..and pretty much all of them who took great care of us.

We absolutely love Ocean Blue. We choose the upgraded suites and amenities that their Privilege section has to offer and it's definitely worth it. Beautiful private cabanas on the beach, rooms closer to the pool and beach but one of the main reasons we keep coming back is because of the staff. We meet so many friendly people here each year and this year was no exception. Willie Wonka and Jack Michael the entertainment staff were so wonderful and made a great effort to involve us and check in on us and everyone around the pool each day. We had many many laughs from them, from the surfboard pillow fights in the pool to the Holywood production! Everything was great and they always had a smile on their face. Our maids were lovely, I wish I knew their names but little flowers left on our beds and in our bathrooms as well as beautifully folded towels were lovely touches. The restaurant staff are overworked but they work with smiles on their faces and really enjoy interacting with you! Thanks to Manuel at the Bucanero restaurant and the staff at the Mexican restaurant are a blast! Finish your night off with an Irish coffee at Mike's cafe and you are set!

We love it here for many reasons but these are just to name a few.

We travelled as a family of 8, me, my brother and his wife 3 kids and my mum and dad we stayed for 2 weeks in December and we all had a lovely time

the grounds are amazing and the new lobby bar is amazing, i really liked the set out of the property everything was in one area, entertainment crew were brillient, god they work long hours but they always stayed happy, my nieces loved them, so big shout out to willi, mini me, jack and juan, loved the dancing before and after the shows, they always had live music, our only complaint being english is that most of the songs were in spanish, but hey we were in the dom rep. there was a good mix of nationalities, i meet people from Canada, America, europe and south america. english people are in the minority there was only 38 of us in the hotel when we arrived which moves on to me saying our rep evans was brillient we saw him everyday, also our first choice consieage fray - we had a small problem with the service in the buffet, i explained our conserns and he sorted them out straight away - fray you are and asset to the hotel.

food and drink were both good, go to the steak house and have a filiet it was lovely, yes drinks are strong, i was drunk every night - disco was fun the dj will always play any requests, after the disco you can go to the sports bar if you want to carry on partying - like me lol its open until 6am

rooms are cleaned well and the place is spotless, my only complaints were the beach, its not as nice as other resorts in punta cana the beach is norrow and eroded but the sea is still amazing, and the waitress service is non existant like other hotels we have always had table service in the evening and round the pool in the day- we had to go to the bar ourselves which was always good sevice anyway

lovely hotel - i would defo recommend to anyone

Please look at other hotels before booking this one, the hotel is nice, the services offered
is really poor. the shows are not good at all, the restaurants are a total mess, very poor service, the workers seems very tired for all the over work they do. Front desk is not very friendly nor they try to help with anything.

just got back from this place and boy am i glad to be home, what a joke, we went here for xmas and to be fair xmas day was quite good apart from that the only other good thing is two members of staff, a waitress called raquel who was amazing and a pool side entertainer called jack, jack is the best and funniest guy i have ever met and is the spitting image of the actor Chris Tucker from the rush hour films and i swear he could be the guys son, hillarious all the time and the kids love him, apart from that what a massive dissapointment, another entertainer called willi wonka was a rude and insulting person and i intend to write to his employers, this guy spends his day getting guests to get him bear from the bar then sneakily downs them, as the day goes on and the more bear he drinks he starts becoming rude abussive and personally insulting to guests, we where subject to his sarcastic insults and felt so offended we reported it to our thomson rep and the hotel management, neither where interested unless you are and i hate to say this but unless your an american when they cant do enough for you and i mean my goodness you should see the red carpet treatment the americans get, its actully pitiful to see a nation with such a wonderful country at thier finger tips to spend so much time trying to be " america" the best way to discribe our experience is if your english dont bother your will feel massively let down, benidorm for the americans im afraid, and i write this having visited most of the carribean islands, ocean blue and sand will never see us again nor will the domican, xmas 2013 ruined

I just got back from the Blue about a month ago. Initally I was having 2nd thoughts as soon s I boarded our caravan for the hotel. Driving through downtown PC I was terrified. VERY RUN DOWN, POOR POVERTY STRICKEN. One side of the street was wide open field with a scarce palm tree here or there, and other side was people hanging out along the sidewalks. Not tourist friendly from what I saw. I would be afraid of getting mugged. But once you make the forever winding ride through town into the ARMED GUARDED GATE{every single resort is more or less a gated community so random people/cars cannot come in} to the resort..The resort itself has a lot of greenery/shrubs/flowering plants. So there is a lot to wander and expierence "tropical". The weather was PERFECT {warm mid-80's every day} to swim at the massive pools, or lounge at the beach under a cabana. Our room was very spacious, and clean. The bed as other's have stated here was HARD AS A ROCK. They try to soften it up with a mattress pad but your best bet is to take some Ibprofen or ALEVE everyday because unless you like a hard bed, YOU WILL HAVE A BACKACHE. The bathroom was rather large as well, with a Jacuzzi tub big enough for two. I would also suggest learning some basic Spanish if you don't already. For the most part the employees know enough/understand English, but housekeeping DOES NOT. If you need more amenities { TP, towels, etc} trying to tell them what you need proves impossible. They speak NO ENGLISH NOR UNDERSTAND. They are really good at restocking your room each day so you are not likely to need much. The room's fridge is stocked with bottled water, beer[nothing good as my husband would say like Budlight], and a few Pepsi and Diet Pepsi's, If you are a die hard pop/soda fan and drink anything other then diet pepsi or reglar, you might want to either load a suitcase up with your own or spend A LOT of money on buying some in the gift shop {$3.00 for a 20oz}. The pop they stock in fridge is bottled but VERY FLAT tasting in comparision to the stuff here in the States. The fountain pop is even worse. GROSS. I drank water {bottled only}, and alcoholic drinks {AND DEPENDING ON WHICH SWIM UP/ BAR, THEY ARE STRONG!!!} They can make just about any kind of drink you want, had a lot of popular alcohols. Food was standard for the most part of what you would get at an all inclusive but the bonus was the restuarants. They had 5-6 of them that were cuisine specific {Italian, French, American, Steak House, Mexican} so you had options. Menu was kind of limited but you did have options. Portions were a little on small side but you had options. The main buffet restaurant each night had a theme {local fare {Dominican food}, Chinese night, Italian night, American,Seafood etc} so each night for dinner they had the same food, in addition to the theme's food. They decorate the restaurant in accordance to the theme, complete with exquisitely hand carved fruit into various floral shapes/etc}. Breakfast was the usual of what you would find, complete with an omelet station, crepe, and a fresh squeezed juice station {watermelon, mango, orange, mixed etc}. A lot of things to choose from, but it was the same everyday. Lunch, same thing.. same food.. everyday.. Now, for the downside to the trip or annoyance. Upon arriving you are assigned to a concierge who is not really one at all. IT IS A MAN/WOMAN IN A PALE YELLOW SHIRT who is there to hound you {him/her and everyone else stand outside on sidewalks by restaurants and like carnival barkers, they holler and try to get you to listen to them "invite" you to a special VIP lunch/breakfast/dinner/out of resort excursion. Promising you a gift basket or whatever they can {tote bag with a hat.towel}. This is their ploy to get you to buy into their "Privilege" Club. They are on you the second you check in, and "will check on you" the next day by calling your room, or hanging out in the lobby of your villa, more or less waiting for you to walk by. Your particular "conceirge" will leave you alone once you firmly tell them no, but there are a dozen or so other ones who are outside the main buffet waiting. I got really good at firmly telling them NO THANKS, 10x a day. They don't follow you around resort, so you only have to deal with them at meal times. When you are hungry and crankiest. They do also have vendors who come 3-4 nights a week {maybe every other night}, selling the typical hats/tshirts/jewelry. OVER PRICED JEWELRY. I know they have to make a buck or two but the pricing is insane. They don't tell you how much anything is, just give you a basket to shop, then you sit down and he adds it all up to give you a "good deal". Very pretty some of it, but its not no where near the quality grade they asking the price for. I bought a really pretty multi stone beaded bracelet and matching necklace and paid $130.00 for it. Less then a month later after he sales guy promised its HIGH QUALITY {even takes a lighter and attempts to "burn" the stones to show you they are not plastic} the cord is stretched out/broke. So don't buy anything unless you REALLY want to waste your dime. They do have a few boutique type stores to shop in, and a gift shop/convience store. I would recommend packing in your luggage any kind of medication you think you might need {Tylenol, pepto bismol {being that you are drinking a lot of fresh fruit juice you might need it as, fruit is a natural laxative}, powerade/gaterade {I packed a ton of this and we drank it daily since I am prone to dehydration and a bottle at the onsite store is RIDICOUSLY expensive}, and SUNSCREEN. YOU NEED IT. EVEN ITS IS SPF 4, YOU NEED IT. There is not much shade at the pool at all unless you are lounging pool side under an umbrella, or at the beach under a cabana. **Word of caution, if traveling with small children or your Grandma who is a prude, you might want to forwarn them that A LOT of European people vacation here as well, and their level of modesty is a lot different then an American's. LOTS OF TOPLESS WOMEN ON THE BEACH. Lots of fat men with beer guts in speedos, lots of skin. Leave your insecurities and innabitions behind. People who have NO BUSINESS wearing a bikini/speedo do. YOUNG/OLD/WRINKLED/SAGGY.
Over all the trip was a nice one, and thought it was worth the money. Would love to go back again.

Room Tip: Any of the villa's are centrally located. I stayed in #7, and it was midway to the beach/pool an...
