We have travelled extensively and this is one of the best hotels that we have stayed in and would happily stay again! Before we left the UK I contacted the hotel and asked for a quiet, high floor sunny balcony in the standard rooms. They contacted me back straight away and said they'd pass the request through to their front-of-house reservation desk - and we got exactly what we asked for! Normally you don't get a response at all so I was very pleased with their communications.
Check-in was quick and the bell boy was very helpful and cheerful - he was the first of many cheerful members of staff!! The beach was what we expected having stayed in Bavaro/Punta Cana a number of times before - white/yellow very fine clean sand. The gardens are well looked after and as this was just before Christmas had thousands of Christmas lights draped around the plants and trees - each day we'd find more!
The food was excellent, plentiful and there was a wide variety - if the previous reviews put you off - don't let it. It makes me wonder what some people must eat at home to complain about the food... We sat next to a couple in the Oriental Restaurant who complained throughout their meal how bad it was - having eaten it all and had seconds!! I can be a bit fussy sometimes (don't like fish etc), but I had no problem with happily adding a few inchess to my waistline! The wine and beer was very drinkable too. International brands in the bars were included in AI! The staff were very attentive even in the buffets, glasses were seldom empty for long. It didn't take the staff long to work out our preferences and were always very friendly with a laugh and a joke and some 'interesting' communication techniques i.e. the whistling and monkey and bird calls etc.- they spoke quite a few human languages too! I can quite honestly say I have never been to a hotel where the staff were so friendly and cheerful and appeared happy. We have been to other hotels in the Dom Rep, most are friendly, but not like these guys and girls. Whoever recruits, trains and looks after the staff need congratulations "for getting it right"!... and I'm not usually the gushing type. And I haven't even started to talk about the "Star Friends" or Animation team. They were always around talking to everyone and smiling and making sure that everyone was enjoying themselves without being intrusive. They seemed to be on duty all day, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves! I also had some luggage problems and the front of house clerk was very quick to get help and very cheerful. Also thanks to our maid and the beach boys and management and backroom staff who made our holiday one of our most memorable and we have had many good ones!... Well done to all the staff - they are a real credit to your hotel!!
For info:- we were there in December 2012, prior to Christmas and the Temps were 27'C, mostly sunny, warm sea and beach weather despite the breeze with only 2 wet days.
Overall very good value for money. A mention to Rafael too - the Thomson Rep.
This is a good comfortable 4* hotel with 5* staff - excellent stay - thank you all!
