I am currently staying at this hotel and from the get go was bad. As i came in to check in it took forever because of their slow pace as i waited i went for a piña colada and the lobby bartender was rude and condescending not just to Me but also to other folks that just had arrived, what a first impression. To continue our experience we had to find our own rooms as there wasn't anyone available to take us for 45 mins straight and to top it off the ac isnt working!

check in took over 1.5 hours, then the room wasn't ready until 6:00. for three days there were water leaks in the hallway and the bathroom of our room, first time it took 3 phone calls, 2 trips to the front desk and then 6 hours to fix! front desk staff acted like they didn't care one way or the other. food was bland to say the best. the only staff in the place that actually seemed to care were the cleaning staff. ongoing maintenance the entire 6 days which was so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation in the lobby area. but the grounds are pretty and the beach was nice. would never ever go back.

A beautiful resort from a visual standpoint. Clean white sand. Well maintained. Friendly staff with the exception of the two Russian girls in the lobby. Steer clear as they are nothing short of total snobs. The food is much to be desired. Wifey and I had a steady diet of fruit and Veggies. Had a traditional Dominican lunch On the Saona island excursion which was fabulous. Expected the resort food to be more like it. Mexican a la carte was the best with the Italian restaurant being worse than the buffet. If you want to eat at the buffet or get a drink at the bars you better have some balls and get in there as it would appear the rest of the world outside of the US does not understand the concept of lines. My wife was body checked and I had a serving spoon taken out of my hand. Many of the other guests were rude, particularly the French, although that is not the fault of the resort. Stayed in the JR suite 9208 in the VIP area. Room Was spacious and clean although the ac did not work. This wasn't a problem in this room with the vaulted ceilings and huge sliding glass door. Open that baby up and the constant ocean breeze kept it comfortable. Water pressure was pretty low and hot water is at a premium in the latter part of the afternoon when everyone leaves the beach. My only problem was the door jamb did not have a strike plate. Only a thin piece of wood was keeping us and our belongings from someone giving a little push on the door and having access to our room. Even though I brought it to the front desks attention On the 1st day of 5, nothing was done about it. This is a pretty important security feature. In the end, it was a good experience but we would not come back strictly based on the food.

None of the Employees spoke English. Meat was overcooked. Rooms were very dated.
We paid extra for a swim up room,,,Joke. I would not recommend at all. Beds were rock hard. Casino was not on the property.

Room Tip: Dont even bother

The Good:

The food was of high standard in the main buffet restaurant considering the rating of this hotel being so low. The Beach restaurant should be shut down, honestly, those burgers are suspect!!!! Ice cream delish though... The beach is always the best thing in Punta Cana and don't let the resort take credit for it, its mother nature you need to thank.

The Bad:

1) The usual of Punta Cana , Bavaro area, they are definitely breeding mosquitoes, I have experienced the mosquito issue in all the resorts I have visited in Bavaro. The rooms are surrounded by bushes and all the water that collects from their downspouts just sits there. A balcony off your room is useless at night, try and sit there and become a casualty of bites. Zero fumigation occurred, trust me we were up and about until the wee hours of the morning. Cuba always took extra efforts to fumigate and reduce mosquito breeding, no efforts here!!!! Spray all you want, these mosquitoes are tropical, so perhaps a local spray may be more effective.

2) The disco as usual only focussed on Latin music, we hear that music on the beach at the pool all day.....give us a break and play English music at the disco.
DJ is clueless on even the top 40, really??? So needless to say the disco empties out by 12 midnight . Punta Cana does not have the party atmosphere like Jamaica, definitely can be boring at night.

3) The animation team is not at all friendly and only came to speak to us in the last two days because they wanted a review on Trip Advisor so they can win some award. The only one who seemed somewhat genuine was Sexy Belly.

The Ugly:

1) The building where we stayed was the 200's so not stay there. The rooms are not renovated, the bathroom tiles look like a 3 year old child stuck them on. The bathroom has some vent that allows mosquitoes in. The room has sings of mould, just a mess. We met people who had brand new rooms in building 100, who paid less than us.
Sunwing thanks for ripping us off, why would we pay more for staying in dumpy rooms?

2) The Front desk staff have serious attitudes especially the Russians?? They are lucky they have been allowed to work in the Dominican and seem to have a superior complex.

3) The bar tenders serve white people before they will serve brown/black people and we had this first hand experience. I complained to Wendy the waitress and she made sure that she served me at all times.

Just returned from a week at Vista Sol. It is an older hotel, but upgrades are currently being made. The grounds are beautiful, food was plentiful, everything was immaculate, staff was wonderful, but the thing that stood out was the entertainment staff. There was always something fun going on poolside or at the beach, and shows in the evening as well. The shining star of the entertainment team, Animacion, is Hector. I cannot say enough about him. He is warm, friendly and endearing, and gets to know many folks personally, he is always around with a smile or to chat for a few minutes. Hector definitely added something wonderful to our vacation.

The Vista Sol has its highs and its lows. The grounds are immaculate, the beach is amazing, staff is very friendly, and the service is ok.

Now the unexpected lows. The reservations for the restaurants is very limited. The line forms around 8:30am to reserve and takes about just an hour to get your reservation, if your lucky to get one. In the gormet restaurant, they only used 6 tables out of approx. 24 tables. I hate when resorts ration.

we upgraded to the oceanfront junior suite. Beautiful room and view, but the air conditioning is rationed. Blinds and shares closed for 4 days, temperature was never lower than 28 c, or approx 78 Fahrenheit. Walked to lobby to report on day one, and no one ever showed up the whole week. they refuse to drop the temp of the chilled water loop that feeds air handler unit. Simply rationing. Almost to hot for adult time. Thank goodness for the ceiling fan.

The free wifi is a joke. Tried four days before I ponied up 40 dollars for premium wifi. Also they want 40 dollars to use the safe. Which is more dang rationing. The safe is bolted to the room, it is a fixture of the room I paid for, and they want to charge extra?

The kids night is like all night, all week. The entertainment is all centered around kids. Hokie pokie, you name it. Just horrid

the sports bar beach area is nice. Just watch out for all the line jumping, rude people. Same for the bar, you respectively get in a line like a curteous human being, and you will be standing there all week. Why the staff serves people jumping in front of you, will straight get your temper flaring up. The food is average, you will find more of what you won't eat than what you will.

All in all, beautiful place, amazing views, but lacks plenty. My rating 2.9 out of 5.0
