We have done numerous all inclusive trips. This one had the best food. They had lobster tail on the seafood buffet at the seafood restaurant. This one fits into the upper middle class of all inclusive, nothing that is extreme for price, but nowhere near the bottom of the bucket. The consistent breeze off the ocean was incredible. This was an A+ resort.

I have stayed in various all-inclusive resorts and couldn't help but feel disappointed overall with the value and especially the service at this resort. I literally felt like I was annoying the wait staff by asking for a beverage with my meal and I often had to go to the entire meal before I would be served water. The cleaning staff failed to leave towels in our room and when we called it took them 2 hours to bring us towels. Additionally, the minibar in the room was never restocked. I don't feel that these things could be overlooked considering this resort was significantly more expensive than the one I stayed in the year prior.

Despite the pool being very pretty and the beach equally inviting, I would definitely not go back to this resort. There are far too many options to choose from in Punta Cana to settle for this kind of service.

I had the greatest time in Punta Cana staying at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace last year. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Luna, who works for the hotel and was so very helpful during our week visit. I can't wait to go back. I will stay at the Barcelo just to ensure that Luna is around to help with the language barrier. Again, hats off to Luna -- you are awesome!!

Room Tip: They have three different hotels at this location. One is family focused, one is couple focused and...

Really enjoyed the peace and quiet by the pool and on the beach. Stellar maintenance on the grounds and beach. Room and other resort areas were very clean as well. Resort was not very popular for North Americans during my stay (10/25-29/13).
Tons of food but I think they would be better served by not making 14 kinds of potato dishes and just make 4-5 each night (quality instead of quantity). Same goes for most all of the food offerings. Ate dinner at Japanese restaurant, French restaurant x2 and Steak House. All worth the upgrade. One small problem was getting into the Japanese restaurant the second time - tons of empty tables but we didn't have a reservation and were told we couldn't be seated. Went to concierge and were told that there's no same-day ressies after 6pm.
Settled for French restaurant - good but had really wanted to finish the sushi menu...went by later and it looked like 1/2 the tables in the Japanese restaurant hadn't had anyone seated in them the whole night. Seems like the hostess could have sat us...seems like she was following the rules without thought.
Getting coffee in the morning was a struggle - seems like the carafes could be bigger and staff dedicated only to that service. Offering to seat people and hailing the coffee server would go a long way to adding enjoyment to breakfast. Maybe even putting a coffee/pastry/muffin station near the front (with functioning coffee machines or large urns - "dial-a-brew" machines didn't seem to be working) would also be appropriate.
Service was very good in all the restaurants. Staff was very helpful and courteous - language was sometimes a small barrier but added to the experience.
Would go back - beautiful and tranquil.
PS if you want to get a "clean prostitute" (oxymoron, I know...) this is apparently the place to go. We were offered assistance at least 4 times between arrival and departure.

Just to keep it short and sweet I'll just state the things we liked and didn't like.
Like
1. Great willingness to help from the staff
2. Gorgeous Beach, clean and many chairs to lay out. Drinks and towel stations nearby. Some entertainment.
3. Self serve ice cream machine in the buffets, ggod even though the taste was a little different
4. Good AC in the room.
5. Great Cappuccino's!
6. Beautiful buildings and grounds.

Didn't like
1. Food was terrible. Very bland. We ended up liking the steakhouse best but it still wasn't the greatest tasting we've ever had. There was just something off about most of the food they had to prepare.
2. Language barrier - they speak spanish and very little English so it was hard trying to communicate what you wanted.
3. Just a few English TV channels
3. Gift shop was extremely overpriced.
4. Humidity was pretty thick and uncomfortable unless you were laying on the beach or in the pool
5. Bed was hard
6. Shower drained really slow and overflowed onto the floor if you weren't careful. We lifted the drain and saw a metal piece that made it drain slow so we lifted that up a few times to let water out to finish our shower.
7. Men had to wear long pants and closed shoes for some dinner places.

I don't think we'll be back. The place was nice but just too many inconveniences that kept us from really being able to enjoy and relax.

Tips: Don't forget bug spray and maybe some snack foods if you like to have food in your room. They charge a lot for things at the resort so try not to forget anything. Don't drink the water from the faucet and keep your valuables in the safe every time you leave the room.

For our first trip where we actually needed our passports, we chose this resort. We booked through Southwest Vacations. Our room was nice and had a balcony with a spa tub. Housekeeping was always there much later in the day, which at times became a problem. My husband really enjoyed the golf course and was out hitting balls early every morning we were there. We also enjoyed the free nightly shows. And then we both got sick. We are pretty sure it was from some of the food that we ate. Although we think it could have been from the ice cubes in the drinks too. Everyone that I spoke to prior to going told me that all the water was bottled. However, the ice cubes came from machines that I don't think had filters. Thank goodness I had the foresight to pack Imodium and Pepto. We also found the casino to be a joke. I guess we are too used to Las Vegas casinos. Not even close. Knowing a few Spanish phrases was very helpful too. And thank God for google translator. We only found 2 people that spoke English (one from Canada and one from from Scotland), so communication was at times very difficult. Would we ever go back? Probably not. Only if we noticed the reviews would improve as far as people not getting sick.

Dear Guest,

It is a pleasure to know you enjoyed our nightly shows at the Theatre and your room with the hot tub in the balcony. We are very sorry that you got sick during your stay and we can assure you that it was not from the ice cubes, because all the water in our resort is filtered and our quality department control it with highest accuracy. Sometimes tourists get sick because of the change of food and spices. We also lament that you have got the impression that not many of our employees speak English, since our Human Resources department is offering English Courses, so all our human team is able to provide our valued guests unforgettable vacations.

We sincerely hope to have the opportunity to demonstrate you our commitment with excellent service.

Yours Faithfully,

I stayed at the hotel the week of November 10th. The stay was pretty nice and the facilities are well maintained. I would like to point out a few things that I would like to see improved. The room service free of charge as there is an additional fee right now. The algae or those plants across the beach sand should be removed; i noticed that some hotels clean the area in front of their property and this makes the view and the beach water even better. I did not see attendants going to the beach and providing small snacks or beverages. Also the attendants at the pool were mostly picking up left over drinks from the pool rather than servicing the customers. I did not see many places you could go late at night and pick up a dessert or a shake. The buffet waitresses were doing a great job but they looked overwhelmed at times due to the many people needed to be served therefore i had to wait most of the times a fewminutes for a simple glass of water. I am not a heavy drinker but from what i experienced and heard other folks the drinks were mediocre at most. The soda drinks were horrible except the ones from the room fridge.

On the other hand, i loved the fact that the pool stayed open until late. There are a variety of restaurants to choose from. The guest services desk over by the family area is awesome. The kids area and the pool for kids was great. The rooms were well maintained and serviced. I didnt see anyone advertising the spa or forcing me to pick or buy additional services from the hotel thus making me waste my time.

Room Tip: Families with kids should go to the family area where they have two rooms.
