This was our 3rd visit to this resort. The AC in our room for the first night was not working well. Since we got in late at night, we just had to deal with it. The next day, they gave us a key for a new room so we could check it out first. That AC was not working , either. They let us check a 3rd room , which was great. The AC seems to be a very common problem: we met another couple whose AC was jet-engine loud, and another whose room was hot. Also, the gym is very hot--one of the AC units was not working, the other too inadequate. Other than that, the beach is still great, the food and bar service mostly adequate. Wifi is very expensive. The computer lab only has Internet Explorer, so I could only read but not write from my gmail account. Snorkeling is decent from the beach just to the right of the soccer goalies in the Bavaro resort.

My 2 friends and I traveled to this all-inclusive resort from July 27th to August 3rd. We booked everything through cheapcarribean.com. Everything went very smoothly. We had a truly relaxing and fun vacation!

Resort & room:
When we arrived at the hotel on Saturday night we were greeted with drinks. The check-in employee Goofy was very friendly and got us settled very promptly. Everything was absolutely beautiful. The staff worked hard to keep it very clean. The resort was so open and nice. We stayed in the villas where we had 2 double beds and a sitting area. A very nice room for the 3 of us. We did have little insects (ant-like) crawling around, but when the maid cleaned she sprayed and they would stay away for a little bit. They weren't really an issue.

Service:
The service was amazing! The staff truly are wonderful at the Iberostar Dominicana. They work really hard to make everyone feel welcome. I cannot say enough good things about the staff. They were always smiling and saying "hola" to us wherever we went. They all work extremely hard making sure the resort looks nice and making sure everyone is having fun. Our three favorite employees worked at the bar in the lobby-- Jenny, Luis, and Johnny. They were so friendly and remembered us throughout our stay. We miss them! The star friends were always entertaining and making sure everyone is having fun. They put on good shows in the evenings!

Food & Drinks:
Make sure you go and make reservations at the a la carte restaurants early on in your trip. We saved our 3 reservations for our last three nights. That was a good choice because we were getting sick of the buffet by the end of the week! We had Maria Bonita (Mexican), La Pagoda, and La Cana (Steakhouse). All very excellent!! The buffet food isn't the best thing you will ever eat. However, they try to make things to accommodate different tastes. I'm giving it 4 stars because of the food. That was really the only complaint I had about the whole trip. The drinks were all very good! Many different options to choose from. Beach bar if so convenient!

Beach & Pool:
We had no trouble finding tiki huts to sit under at all at the beach. We usually went out to the beach no earlier than 9am. Sometimes even later and always found a place to sit. Pool is a little bit harder to find a tiki hut. We didn't really go to the pool much. The water was way to pretty at the beach! Beach is kept very clean. Employees always coming around and cleaning up cups and keeping the beach nice. We didn't have much trouble with vendors trying to sell things. You just need to be firm and say no thank you and they usually leave you alone.

Excursion-- Saona Island:
We booked our excursion through Olympus tours. It was a GREAT excursion! It is a very long day but well worth it. Started off taking an hour tour of the area. Took us to a speedboat where we snorkeled for a bit then got to see some starfish and take many photos. Then we went to Saona Island where we had lunch and had some time to enjoy the beautiful island. Took a catamaran back where we danced and relaxed. We all really enjoyed it and would recommend this excursion!

Overall, we had an amazing vacation in Punta Cana. Always something going on at the resort to be entertained. Also, a great place just to relax! 4 stars because of the food. Everything else was above and beyond awesome. Great place, great vacation.

Our first stay at an all inclusive and we thoroughly enjoyed it. You will be hard pressed to find a member of the staff that is not friendly, helpful and more than willing to go the extra mile. the service is outstanding!
A few tips.:
1. Tipping is not required, but extremely appreciated - bring lots of singles.
2. If you want a beach umbrella - get up early (8:00 AM) and stake out your claim with towels on the chairs
3. Sun screen is an absolute must - don't forget to reapply as the Dominican sun is strong
4. Of the restaurants we tried, the French restaurant was by far the best

We were a group of 11 from London with a number of teenagers and we had a fantastic 2 week holiday from 24 July.

Sunloungers – never had a problem with securing loungers and shade on the beach and that was for all of us!

Beach is fantastic – beach is kept clean of seaweed, unlike most of the other hotels along the front.

Enjoyed a number of activities, archery, shooting, table tennis, football, aqua aerobics and animation staff were lovely and not too pushy.

Food was great – very good value for money – best buffets that we have ever experienced. Well stocked and massive choice and something for everyone. Breakfasts particularly good and we never experienced overcrowding in the buffets or restaurants. Wascar in the buffet really looked after us. Enjoyed the French restaurant, Chinese was disappointing but Steak restaurant was great and got to go there twice although the wine was not so free flowing when the table near to us ordered off the wine list - the attention shifted away from us - which was a shame.

Drinks were good – premium brands on offer – I think that we may have run the hotel dry of Bombay Sapphire!

Trips to the Saona (sp?) island and the snuba diving were great trips and well worth doing. Are expensive, but make the holiday.

Just a note to be careful of the safes in the room. We thought it was shut to then find we must have left it open when we returned to the room. £20 plus a few dollars were missing which was a little disappointing.

We really didn't want to go home and would definitely recommend the hotel to everyone.

Stayed at Barcelo 10 years ago and iberostar was recommended to us at that time. It certainly lived up to our expectations.

Room Tip: We all asked for and got top floor rooms to avoid noise above

This has been one of the best vacations! I went with two of girls my age and we did not have one complaint. The staff was AMAZING! They always had a smile on their face and always went out of their way to help. The beach was gorgeous and there was always fun activities going on. I can go on and on about this place. I know I will be going back!

I have been to the DR many many times but this was my first time at the Iberostar Dominicana. I have nothing but great things to say. This is a large resort but not massive like the Gran Bahia. Check in was smooth, fast and friendly. We asked for two beds in our suite and to be close to the beach. No problema! You can always get someone to give you a lift in a golf cart but really the distance from the main lobby to the beach is about a 3 minute walk through gorgeously manicured gardens. Gorgeous clean spacious beach, great room (upgraded to a junior suite), fantastic friendly happy staff and pretty good food! Plenty of beach chairs and palapas to go around on the beach and it seemed there was always something going on around the pool. We had delicious tender filet mignon in the French restaurant, great steaks in the steakhouse and lovely fish at the seafood restaurant. The buffets were good - great breakfast buffets! The breads, croissants and churros were really great! Fun special lunches by the pool each day including a massive paella one day with grilled lobster tails and shrimp! Our room was always immaculately made up each day and we had wonderful AC. Small tips go a long long way here and are greatly appreciated. I particularly want to give a shout out to Yuleides, the best bartender ever, Ramon, our server in the steakhouse, DJ Francis for karaoke and the entire Animation team who made every day a party...but we want to thank every single staff member for making our week one of the best ever! Just one minor caveat...the horsebackriding is not a 15 minute drive away - it's more like an hour each way and make sure to bring your own camera. They took our pic with their camera and sold us a cd which they said had the pic on it. Nope, just 18 lovely bachata songs so we were a little sad about that... But that is truly the only negative in the whole week. We'll definitely be back!!

Room Tip: Our suite was halfway between the beach and the lobby so literally a 90 second wAlk to the beach or...

The beach is beautiful. The hotel left nothing to be desired. The pool was great. Two complaints: the food was either too salty or too sweet (though I don't know if this is a regional/cultural thing or a hotel thing) and the customer service was lacking. There were a few very friendly and accommodating staff members, but there were just as many that were not. Staff members change over time, so I would be willing to stay once again because I still ended up enjoying our stay there.
