After Iberostar Varadero, my trust in Iberostar's chain was shaking. My review is here about this trip, yet I decided to give Iberostar one last try before switching it to Melia, and we went to Iberostar Bavaro.
Stayed Aug 26-Sept 2/ 2014. What a difference!
Nice clean large rooms! Premium drinks in the lobby bar!
Grounds well kept!
We didn't attend any specialty restaurants, all Iberostar hotels are more or less the same.
Buffet was small, but good.
Nice beach.
Excellent service like it has to be in Iberostar.
My special Thanks to assistant manager David Lopez, who was able to resolve our small issue promptly and efficiently, and to whom I promised to write the review on my own accord and shared my experiences about staying in Iberostar hotels.
Well managed, and well kept property! Way to go! Glad this hotel picks up a rating again.
Day and night if you compare to Iberostar Varadero.

We spent 17 days mid November at the Bavaro. In the past we have spent many vacations here for multiple weeks. im sad to say that for us its time for a change. Everything that we enjoyed from the first day seems to be gone. the "new" Iberostar Bavaro is still a great place but just not for us. If you are Thinking about coming to the bavaro it is huge. plus you get use of the other two hotels so you have a lot of bar/food choices. a lot of updating is going on( good to see) and it looks like Jacuzzi rooms are going to be offered along the beach. also a rebuilt beach bar is ok... everyone will miss the old "shack", but new and improved is needed at times. The staff here is always fantastic but also a lot of new faces that seem to be told not to interact with guests. some of our old friends still here were fantasic as usual. the food was very "blah".... not good, not bad just edible and abundant. the shows I think are now mostly from an outside agency. the starfriends only do the goofy shows that involve a lot of yelling. either way nothing special or new. soooooo if you want a cool place with an awesome beach that goes on forever this place is great. if you are looking for over the top luxury or if you have travelled here before and are looking for your "home away from home" that you are used to, maybe you should take a better look at other resorts.

Room Tip: they are all about the same except for the beachfront jacuzzi

Clean resort. Mediocre food. Nice pool. It was slightly difficult to make dinner reservations at a decent time. Concierge not very accommodating for times and restaurants didn't seem that busy. Best service was at buffet areas.

I went to the Dominican Republic from 12/4-12/8 to celebrate my birthday. This was my third trip to the D.R., but my first time at this resort. This resort was amazing! We had a really nice spacious suite, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The activities directors were very engaging, and they made sure that you had a great time and was included in all of the fun. The beach was nice, and what I really liked about this resort was that unlike a lot of other resorts I stayed in, this resort didn't have any people from outside of the resort walking up to you trying to sell anything, which made for a peaceful beach experience.
The food was your standard fare buffet, but it was more than adequate. We actually ate most of our dinner meals at one of the on site specialty restaurants, which were really nice.
The nightly entertainment was fun and engaging, and there was a different theme every night.
I only have one complaint: the wifi although it was free, didn't stay connected consistently-there were times when there was no wifi service available at all.
The only thing that would have made my stay better was if I could have spent an extra two days there!

The Iberostar has a very good dive program. If you always wanted to try Scuba, this is a good place to start. That being said, there are things you should be prepared for if you are thinking of trying it while you are there. First and foremost, if you are on any prescription medication bring a signed letter from your Dr saying it is safe to Scuba Dive. Do not give them your money if you have any doubts as I you will not get a refund without a DR 's letter saying it isn't safe. As soon as you sign up and pay they have you fill out a medical questionnaire which could disqualify you. Ask to see this form before you pay.

there are two options for PADI certification and a discover scuba option. Cost ranges from $ 190.00 for Discover, $380.00 for 40 foot certification and $500.00 for 60 foot certification. Bring cash as these are the prices for cash which is 10 percent lower than credit cards.

PADI course includes 3-5 theory classroom sessions, two pool dives and two ocean dives. the dive staff was very friendly and accommodating. Many of them spoke multiple languages. Scheduling times for pool dives and ocean dives was not a problem. They had two dive boats and it seemed like they had at least 15 instructors available.

If you are unsure, they have free introductory pool dives offered daily. you get to put on the equipment and experience scuba in 4 feet of water.

Bottom line, this is a great place to learn how to Scuba Dive. Just make sure you are medically qualified before you turn over any money.

We were looking for somewhere to go to get some winter sun and liked the look of Dominican Republic. We had a look through the various brochures and had lots of hotels recommended to us (there are so many to choose from, it's a potential minefield) and were edging towards the cheaper hotels but thought that we spend a little extra and go a bit more upmarket.

We saw the Iberostar Bavaro and it looked fantastic, the reviews were great, it was ideally situated and reasonably priced. I upgraded our room to a junior spa suits as a surprise for my gf, which meant we got use of the spa facilities and the room would be located closer to the pool and the beach, which is where we wanted to be.

The room was fantastic, huge bed, really clean, loads of towels, close to the pool and beach and not too far from the restaurants and bar. Bathroom was nice and clean if not a little on the small side, namely because the shower was so big. We even got a surprise mid week of a bottle of champagne and some fruit, as well as turn downs a couple of nights a week.

The buffet food was good, lots of choice for meat eaters but as none of the food was marked with as vegetarian it was sometimes difficult for my gf to find different things to eat without risking eating meat.

The speciality restaurants were great, clean, quiet and the service was generally very good. Again choice for a vegetarian wasn't great but they were usually very accommodating once we explained that she didn't eat fish or meat. We eat out 6 times out of the 14 days we were there.

The staff at the hotel were great, everyone from the checkin team, the entertainment and even the maintenance crew would say hola when they walked past. There would always be cleaning going on around the resort from cleaning out the various ponds or sweeping the sand from the paths near the beach. The cleaners were very discreet considering there was so many of them.

Having got a background in Superyacht hospitality, I have particularly high standards and the Iberostar didn't disappoint at all. Would recommend anyone going to the Dom Rep to stay there and especially because on most of the trips we went on we were last to be collected in the morning and first to dropped off afterwards.

Our stay in December at the Iberostar Bavaro was a great experience. We loved the layout of the room and the balcony couch. The food at the buffet was good and really enjoyed the different a la cartes. The alcohol was top shelf and the beach was awesome. The staff worked hard to please and entertain the resort guests.
As I was leaving the resort I lost my gold bracelet. I emailed the resort and could not believe it had been found. The patience and cooperation of Guest Services was most appreciated. They arranged for shipment of the bracelet back to me. My deepest thanks to whoever found and turned in the bracelet. Thank you so much to Guest Services.
