My brother and sister in law got married here so the entire wedding group stayed there, when we were checking in we found out they upgraded all the rooms as a thank you for them choosing the resort for their wedding!
The resort itself was clean and well maintained. The resort is massive, but they have golf carts that can take you directly to and from where you want to be, and if none of those are available there's a "train" that transports people as well. Most the time we opted to just walk though as it seemed quicker than the train.
The beach was very dirty the entire time we were there, there was a solid layer of seaweed on it that never got cleaned. We were told this was because of hurricane Sandy but really it's been a month, so even if they had a person going out once a week to tidy it up it would be much nicer. I was especially disappointed in it because it was my girlfriends first time seeing the ocean and I had to promise her that it's normally not like that (luckily on an excursion we went to a natural beach that surpassed her beach expectations).
The food was also never really "good". They have some 'specialty' restaurants that you have to book in advance to get in at, it's only free to book the day before otherwise it's $5 for a reservation; so most the time unless you'e waking up early to reserve a table you're not getting in. We tried the American Grill, the Dominican restaurant, and Italian place and none of them were better than the buffets. Through everyone in our group all the restaurants were eaten at and we all said the same thing. The couples that ate at the Mexican restaurant said it was excellent though!
At the Dominican restaurant there must have been some cross-contamination because my girlfriend is allergic to shellfish so ordered a dish without any; 10-15minutes after finishing our food she was having an allergic reaction. There was 6 of us who had VERY upset stomachs after some of the food from the resort.
The wedding was put on great by the hotel, only complaint is the guy didn't know "husband and wife" in english so instead of pronouncing them husband and wife, they were pronounced husband and marriage; honestly though who am I to hold that against him when I don't know Spanish well enough to read it from a card.
Staff was all extremely friendly and accommodating. Our favorite bartender was the swim-up bars, Carmelo Delgado, he made some of the best drinks I've ever had and was amazing the entire trip. Our checkout with Felipe was pleasant as well.
