I went to this hotel based upon the reviews. As I entered the resort a bell boy was there to greet us. He took our luggage to the front desk for check in. A waitress greeted us with a cool beverage. Our luggage was moved to our room. Initially I was not impressed with the room, it was not cleaned to my standards, the bed was clean. I phoned our floor butler, Miguel, to get it cleaned up and within a half hour they recleaned the the bathroom and the floors. Parts of the room looked worn and could have been in better condition. The hallways and the resort itself looked freshly painted. The carpet in the hallways needed to be vacuumed. After the room issue was taken care of, we went to dine at a buffet. Overall I am not a picky eater and thought the food was excellent and offered a great selection of food. Lobster and steak for lunch and dinner everyday! They also offer four specialty restaurants. My favorite was the surf and turf restaurant. The japanese is your typical hibachi from the states. The "gourmet" was ok. I did not eat in the italian restaurant. The shows were impressive and enjoyable. The staff at the resort were friendly and fun!!! Plenty of things to do during the day. GREAT customer service! Facility not overcrowded, even though it was booked up. Plenty of room by the pool and on the beach. The butler and the maid service was top notch (after the initial issue was fixed) The staff cleaned and performed maintenance all day long and kept the landscaping gorgeous. I gave the resort only four out of five because of the room issues (not cleaned to my standards and wear and tear on the furniture). I will return!

We stayed here in May 2013. First time to the DR and Iberostar resorts. We loved it here and would definitely return. The resort and beach were both amazing. A smaller resort compared to some of the other all inclusives we've been to, but we really enjoyed that. Not too big, not too small. The Japanese restaurant was our favorite for dinner. The entertainment team did a great job. We usually aren't ones to participate in a bunch of activities (it's vacation, we like to relax) but the beach Olympics were a blast. Go team Happy Feet! Excellent customer service. An all around great vacation. Book it!

This resort is very nice. Service was great. Everyone is very attentive. Many a la cart restaurants to choose from but honestly they have so much variety in food in the buffet area there is no need. The beach was breathtaking!!! My only complaint was the air conditioning in our room was not cooling enough for our liking. Also if you like to watch TV like my husband and I do the Direct Tv reception is horrible. The only channel we could watch was FX.

We had a very nice stay at the Grand. I was a little disappointed because the trip advisor reviews made it sound like the most amazing place on earth and while it was nice, it wasn't the best ever.

our room was nice. there were some small flaws (buttons popping off the headboard, scratches on the mirror in the bathroom, hot tub vents popping out while bathing) which I think could be easily fixed and aren't a big deal but not what I'd expect from a hotel with such amazing reviews. that being said the mini bar was stocked every day, room was cleaned with no complaints, and our butler was very attentive (ask for them to make you up a bubble bath with champagne and roses). We had a room on a higher floor facing in and I'd recommend that if you can.

The grounds and beach are really nice. The pool could use some maintenance, however. there were tiles missing and those that were replaced were very poorly installed. I guess overall the Iberostar could work on fixing things well when they start to break down.

The beach is very pretty. The sand is is super soft and the water is warm and blue. No shells for collecting and some seaweed would be my only complaints but they are minor. I didn't mind the people from the stores bugging me as we walked along the beach...I found it kinda charming.

The Dominican people overall were super nice and friendly. I felt comfortable practicing my beginner level Spanish. Most of the tourists from the US, Europe, & Russia.

The food was overall good. We ate at the buffet the first night and we were disappointed (I'd say we were overall disappointed the first day. like i said we expected more based on the reviews). However, for the rest of the time we ate at the restaurants and the food was great. We tried them all and loved each one for different reasons. We had great service and the food was overall excellent. We ate breakfast every morning overlooking the beach/water (they give you travel coffee mugs in your room so we would bring them down for breakfast and I could have coffee and walk around in the morning after breakfast). We ate lunch at the buffet overlooking the beach and it was consistently good (not great but good).

We visited the other Iberostar properties and by far the Grand is the best. Lots of kids and lots of people at the others. I spoke to some people who ate at the other Gourmet restaurant when they couldn't get a reservation at the one at the Grand and said it was excellent. Maybe an option if you can't get a reservation (get your reservations set up before you arrive or at the very least on your first day they filled up and we couldn't get the reservation we wanted one night).

We saw two shows (Michael Jackson and Circus). They had some very cheesy elements (bad lip syncing) but the dancing and the aerobic acts were pretty good. We had drinks at the boat bar/club and really liked the whole ambiance.

I'm re-reading this post and i know I'm not making it sound as great as the other commentators. but i promise it's very nice. i just want to make sure everyone's hopes aren't as high as mine were.

We arrived for our Honeymoon on October 1st for two weeks which were perfect in every way. The excellent customer service began prior to arrival with the prompt responce to our emails to the hotel from the lovely Candy,who accommodated all of our requests regarding preffered room location and dinner reservations.We were welcomed with a refreshing towel and cool drink and check in was very fast and pleasant thanks to the friendly front desk team who were wonderful on every encounter.Our butler was Luis he was fantastic such a lovely guy brilliant at his job, we could'nt of been treated better he made us feel like royalty,from the champagne flowers fruit and chocolate in the room when we arrived to the gorgeous baths filled with rose petals and oils that he did for us.The room was beautiful, spacious, spotlessly clean, very big comfortable bed, maid service was excellent ,as was nightly turn down service. We used room service several times for breakfast and found it to be very good.We had no problems with dinner reservations for the al'cartes, although we did email ahead for reservations for our first week.We went to the surf & turf twice ,the Italian , but my favourite was Le Toubillion where we had our romantic dinner,i can truly say that was the best meal i have ever eaten my mouth waters just thinking about it, a really special memory. Service was fantastic in all of them.My husbands favourite was the main buffet ,he had great steaks most nights and although he is a picky eater, he always found lots to choose from, i loved the sushi it was delicous as was the lobster, the lunch time buffet was also fabulous.All of the staff work so hard and go out of there way to be friendly and helpful a special mention to Altagracia, who is beautiful inside and out with the loveliest smile.The beach is stunning sun loungers comfortable and palapas plentiful we never had a problem getting them on the front row after 8 a.m. Raphael the beach waiter is brilliant we were never without a drink he deserves lots of tips for all his hard work.The Star Friends are great fun Boom Boom who had us laughing every day and the lovely Winston who is such a nice and genuine guy and beyonce's double the beautiful Margahrita. The professional entertainers dancers and singers were fabulous and the Beatles tribute show was first class we loved it. We have been visiting Iberostar hotels around the Caribbean for the past seven years simply because the high standards of customer service food quality and cleanliness are second to none, but the Grand Bavaro exceeded all of our expectations. Mr Barratelli and Ms Melissa Burton have a fantastic team of staff working for them and made our Honeymoon as special and memorable as we hoped it would be, so THANKYOU we could not have chosen anywhere better ,we cant wait to return.

Room Tip: Room 7312 is on top floor and has lovely views of ocean resort and boat and was in a great location...

My diamond earrings were taken from our room (they were 1 karat each, $16,000 value). I took them off one night to go to dinner (and put on a different pair of earrings). We left the room for less than 3 hours and when we came back the were gone. They were never found. I was not pleased with the investigation and do not trust that everything was done to find them. During the rest of our stay I would have expected more attention from the security and butler staff. It is a shame because it is a beautiful place. I was made to feel like I was the one who did something wrong.

We truly regret to read that your holidays were not completely satisfying as we aim in Iberostar. We would like though to clarify some points of your publication on Tripadvisor.
Firstly our Management team personally spoke with your husband that the hotel`s insurance company does not accept responsibility on valuable articles left outside of the complimentary safe box. We are aware that our customers are high scale and bring many valuable objects with them, therefore we offer this service free of charge in order to guarantee any item`s complete safety.
Secondly, before hiring staff, we do follow a strict protocol which includes the revision of the criminal backgrounds of our potential staff. As per our daily procedure, all employees pass through a strict control before entering and leaving the property. No items may be brought or taken from the hotel without a signed authorization from management.
Thirdly, Our General Manager and his Assistant were personally involved during the complete process and also personally explained to your husband the info listed below. They would have gladly spoken to you in person but they were refused by your person. As part of our procedures, we offered a transfer to take you to the police station and have a Butler accompany you in case that you needed translation as we believe that when someone is aggravated, this should be reported, proposition that was declined and instead we were asked to make you a signed report to forward to your insurance company as your lawyer had informed both of you that this was enough to claim the earring`s loss. We gladly made this report for you with the information that we had.
This is the information that we were able to retrieve during the internal investigation:
-our cameras do not show any irregularity.
-our modern key card access system showed that the only person who entered your room during those 3 hours was the evening made. She made your turndown service in a normal period of time (according to our records 6 minutes). She has worked with us since the opening of the hotel and has never been involved in any similar situation; despite this as we believe in all our customers, security searched her locker, bags and room just to be sure and nothing was found.
- Regarding the follow up on this case, your belongings were reported as missing to our evening Butler after midnight starting on the 4th of November, according to your room door records more than three hours after you came into your room. Management was not at the hotel at that precise moment. They were informed the next morning during our daily meeting and asked your Butler to let you know that management wanted to speak directly with you due to the seriousness of your report. The next day, on your departure day our PR Manager also spoke twice with you and handed you the missing item report that you had requested us. We truly regret that in your publication you claimed you case not having been taken seriously by our Security team, Butler and Management.

I wanted to write to give a review of our honeymoon stay from October 28, 2013 - November 5, 2013. Overall, we were very pleased with the beautiful hotel, eager to please bartenders and servers and the majority of the food places we ate at during our stay. Being from NJ right near NYC, we have very high standards when it comes to Italian food. The Italian restaurant in our opinion was our least favorite. Overall in the French restaurant, the food was good, however the service was beyond slow. We ordered our food, and while it was good, several things came out incorrectly and the lag between ordering and receiving the food, was very long. The Japanese restaurant as well as the Surf and Turf were very good. We ate at the Japanese restaurant twice during our stay we enjoyed it so much.

The only thing that was not what we were expecting was from the butler staff. We were lead to believe that they would check in constantly and be at our disposal should we have any needs. We did run into some butlers at breakfast, but otherwise, the two we were introduced to weren't really all that helpful. The reservation was under my name. My husband's name is obviously different, which we told the butler's on numerous occasions. He was consistently called the incorrect name when the butlers would call or run into us. We corrected them every time, however, it never actually took. We also requested additional items from the butlers that never made it to our room, with even the basic items not refilled by our last day. Additionally, the butlers we were assigned never knew our schedule. We have had great experiences with butler service at other locations we have visited, however, the butler's general lack of knowledge as to where we were going, remembering my husbands surname or even when we were leaving was disappointing.

Our only complaint about the grounds was the main pool. There were some tiles missing on the floor of the pool, which actually scraped up our feet. At the pool bar, some tile pieces were missing with the foam adhesive exposed. Small things that could be easily fixed.

Again, overall, everything was wonderful for the 8 days we were there. I have to give acknowledgement to Ery and Yordania at the pool bar who consistently went above and beyond what is "required" to keep us happy and laughing. By the second day there, they even had a bottle of Jim Beam for my husband at the bar. This is definitely the kind of place where if you don't see it - ASK!
