“GRAND BAVARO IS GRAND”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

Went on our company trip, so checkin was in a private room and very fast.
Bellman got bags to room speedy.
The hotel is very nice, very clean and service was SUPER!

Room very spacious, clean and nice view of pool and ocean.
Butler explained everything upon arriving at room.
Big closet, not a lot of drawers however.
Safe in room and mini bar. If we took something out, it was always replenished.
Very comfortable beds.
Great housekeeping.

Lobby, lounges and theater lounge very nice.Live music was unreal.
Some of the theater singers were awesome.
Lobby bar and cigar lounge were alwyas full of people and right outside lounge was sitting area if you wanted to be outside and still listen to the music or be close to bar.

Pool was HUGE, great service around pool and at swim up bar.
Get up early and reserve a cabana if you want a bed or shade around pool.
FREE suntain lotion at towel desk.

Beach was the BEST!
Tons of chairs and huts if you need a break from sun.
Sand was so smooth and never hot. No rocks on beach.
We had waiter on beach bring us everything. Cheeseburger and fries brought to beach by our waiter was terrific. Nice breeze on beach.

Food was hit or miss.

Breakfast buffet very good. Omelettes made to order and donuts made to order right on the spot(had 9 one morning).
Lunch buffet good, seemed to get better as week went on.
Different themes every day.
Dinner buffet was ok, also got better as week went on.

Service at the buffet reataurant was second to none. EVERYONE who worked the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets was best service ever(and we usually stay at Four Seasons).
They busted their you know whats to clean your table, pour coffee and be so kind.
Surf and Turf and the Italian resturants were just average, but the Japenese Steakhouse was Awesome. I would eat there every night. MAKE RESERVATIONS either before departure or as soon as you get there.

Ship on the grounds turns into a bar at night, fun time dancing and karaoke.
Show theater wasn't just a theater, it was a lounge serving drinks during the shows.

Nice small gym with unreal views of beach.
Massages in the palapa on beach were nice with ocean sounds and breeze.
Massages in spa inside were very tranquil and some of the best deep tissue massages my wife and I have had.

Enjoyed our trip so much.
Food in some restaurants very good and average in others.
Beach, pool and the overall great service make this resort very nice!

We have been going to all inclusive resorts for 10 years, but always in Mexico, and most times with our kids. All I kept thinking about here was that DR blows Mexico away from a beach and weather perspective. The beach has zero pebbles, rocks, seaweed, etc. The ocean is that blue Caribbean water with slowly crashing waves. The weather was consistently in the low to mid 80's. even at night, I didn't need a sweater, it was around 75. The resort did a nice job not blasting the AC at restaurants to you didn't catch a chill after being in the sun all day.

The Iberostar Grand was beautiful, clean, excellent service, spa, etc. The only few comments that would help to make it perfect were if they did something about people saving chairs at the pool and beach. I mean it is vacation, right? People would go out at 7 to save chairs, and most of them are already taken. Kind of ridiculous. The second comment is on the food. It is fine, but not great. It was somewhat difficult to make reservations at the a la carte restaurants, and when you finally ate at one, there was maybe 5 tables full, so not so sure why they wouldn't allow more people to dine there.

All on all, it was an amazing, totally relaxing trip. We would go back in a heart beat.

Room Tip: It seemed to use there was little choice in the rooms. I think there are about 12 rooms that actuall...

Dear guest,
On behalf of the hotel Manager, Mr. Stefano Baratelli, we thank you for choosing our hotel as your destination for your first visit to the Dominican Republic and for taking time to post a review about your experience in Tripadvisor.
We are very pleased to acknowledge that your holidays were memorable. Iberostar Grand Collection Hotels we aim to provide our guests an ambience of calmness and relaxation in our “adult only” premises.
In regard to our dinner service at the “a la carte” restaurants, our main goal is to offer our guests with a unique and special experience where meals are made-to-order, so we can provide freshness and quality along with a personalized service. In order to achieve this, we cannot occupy all the restaurant tables during the four sittings because some of our guests take longer to enjoy dinner and part of the experience is not to rush while serving them. It happens sometimes that our guests do not show up at the restaurants and then of course we have tables available but we cannot re-use those tables until 15 – 20 minutes after the reservation time, when it will become a cancelation. This is not to excuse ourselves but simply an explanation of how our system works to give our guests the best possible experience. We are working hard to make it easier and effective for all our customers.
We are looking forward to see you again, we stay at your entire disposition for any request you may have before your next visit,
Kindest regards,

My husband and I thought of no better place to celebrate 50 years of marriage than to return to Iberostar Grand Bavaro. We were not disapponted, in fact we enjoyed it better the 2nd time. Upon arrival there was champagne, chocolate covered strawbrries, and flowers in our room. Reservations had been made for our dinners and we relaxed from a long day of travel right away. The weather was perfect every single day. This truly is a beautiful place. So well maintained and smoohly run.We were pampered by the excellent, friendly, helpful staff. Our ever smiling maid Rosa kept our room spotless and our butler Victor was always at our beck and call for anything we needed or wanted. Many of the staff were the same as when we were there in 2010 and some remembered us! We thought the buffet breakfasts and lunches offered much more variety than the last time. The seafood was excellent. New to us was adorable Allagracia, always present in her tall white hat in all the dining venues making sure things ran smoothly. She was so friendly. We spent most of our days on the beach and had no trouble getting front row chairs if we were out there by 7:30 a wonderful time to walk the beach without the crowds. There are always good seats available if you aen't up that early. The beach waiters were ever present to get you any kind of drink you wanted. The mohitos and rum punches were our favorities. We found the dinner wines to be quite good. You never have to ask to have your glass refilled. I would advise e-mailing ahead to get reservations if you want to dine in one of the four restaurants (Italian was our favorite). Rooms on the top floors of the inside 'U" are the best if you are lucky enough to get on, but all rooms are the same inside so you really can't go wrong. We have been home less than a week and we are already dreaming of a return visit next year.

Just returned from the Grand Bavaro Hotel. Without a doubt this is the best property I have stayed. The service is super and staff goes over the top to make your stay pleasurable. Make sure you see Julio at the swim up bar. We enjoyed the Japanese Restaurant. The food at lunch was spectacular (grilled lobster tail). While not a sea food fan, my wife is and the GBH had a great selection. Do Not Hesitate to visit this property, you will not be sorry!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a pool view.

This, by far, is the best place my husband and I have ever stayed. All I can say is everything from check-in, to cleanliness, to grounds, food, etc. is amazing. The number one thing about the Iberostar Grand is the staff. They are the most pleasant, helpful staff anywhere. Luis was our butler and he was great. We can't believe how hard everyone works to make your stay pleasant. We can't wait to go back next year.

My Husband and I came to this hotel for our Honeymoon and it was so beautiful. Everything far exceeded our expetations and we plan on making more trips to the Iberostar resorts for our anniversaries to come. The location was beautiful, the butler service was wonderful, the room was always really clean for us and it was very elegant, the people are so friendly, and the food is INCREDIBLE. I highly recommend this place for a honeymoon, celebration, vacation, family trip, anniversary, or get away. The neat thing about staying at the Grand Bavaro was that they gave us a bracelet to have access to the other Iberostar resorts along the beach, which was really cool. My husband really enjoyed making reservations at night for us because they had so many nice restaurants at all of the resorts and we could go to any of them. Whether it was french food, Japanese, Texas, Seafood, it all was amazing and was included. It was beyond beautiful and I recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: All of their suites are beautiful!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

I traveled to the Grand with a friend the week of Feb 23 - Mar 2. We picked the resort based upon the fabulous trip advisor reviews, and we were not disappointed. There were a few things that could use some improvement, but it was nothing to earn anything less than 5 stars for the total experience. Overall, the place was immaculate and extremely well manicured.

We arrived and were greeted with a glass of champage and were basically told not to lift a finger. We were able to get a room with two beds, which was important to us. I had emailed the hotel a few weeks ahead to request it.

The room:
Our room was on the 3rd floor on the back side of the resort facing the other Iberostar. It was very quiet. I didn't mind looking over the other hotel as some other reviewers did. The room had 2 double beds. We were brought our special (feather) pillows. The room also had a table with two chairs and a chaise lounge. It wasn't overly large, but it had plenty of room. The bathroom had the jacuzzi tub (we didn't use), a vanity with two sinks, and a rainshower head for the shower. I didn't enjoy the rain shower head as it made it difficult to shave my legs in the shower. The hairdryer had decent power, but it was a safety type that you had to hold the button to keep it on. If you have difficult hair, I would suggest bringing your own. (I wish I had.) Ours didn't work (only came out cold) when I tried to use it the first night. I saw our butler on our way to dinner to let him know. We had a new one when we returned. I did find the bed slightly soft for my taste.

The service:
We got fabulous service from almost everyone from the front desk check in (Freddy) to our butlers (Henry and Victor), to the waiters (Jorge), and the pool bartenders/waitresses (Leide & Lely). Everyone seemed happy and greeted us when they saw us. The butlers always had wine chilling for us when we came back from the pool. Our mini bar had things we didn't want in it, so we asked for more of what we did. We didn't have to remind them after we asked once. If you took two drinks out of your wine glass, it would be topped off at lunch and dinner.

The food:
The breakfast buffet had tons of options from omelets/eggs and waffles/pancakes to cheeses, lox, and cured meats. The fruit selection was very good, and they had a smoothie bar. The coffee at breakfast was almost sludge-like. I ordered cappucinos after day two when I saw someone else with one.
Lunch had about anything you could possibly want including salads, chips and homemade guacamole, grilled chicken/lobster tails/hamburgers/steaks, and fruit/dessert.
We did not eat dinner at the buffet, but we were told by others that it was very good. We ate at all 4 ala carte restaurants. My favorite was the Japanese. We got fantastic service at all of them except the Surf/Turf. I felt like we were kind of herded in and our waitress (same one both nights) was not very friendly and didn't provide the service as in the other 3. The food was good there, but the experience was much less enjoyable.
Yes, I got a few things during the week that I liked less than others. If I didn't like it or how it was cooked, I got something else from the buffet.

The drinks:
I only had one drink the whole time I didn't like (bloody mary) because it was just standard bloody mary mix and vodka. The house white & rose were actually very good. I preferred the white house over a couple of the bottles they brought us special. It didn't seem a problem at all at dinner if you wanted to order one from the list. They had more "top shelf" liquor at the bar by the lobby than at the pool.

Dinner reservations:
I had emailed the hotel a couple weeks ahead and asked for reservations for the first four nights at 6:30 (we like to eat early). They were not able to confirm at the time, but our butler arrived with reservation slips on our first day. We were able to secure 6:30 again the other 3 nights.

Cabanas/Pool:
The cabanas were great. We did get up early to be at the pool at 7 to reserve our cabana. I need shade as I am very fair. I didn't mind being up at that time. It was very peaceful. The annoying thing was observing people reserving them then spending the day at the beach. There didn't seem to be any policing of that. One day, we noticed one that was empty all day. Someone showed up about 4:30 PM with a bottle of SPF 8 tanning oil and applied it and went to the pool. They had a "sunscreen bar" at the pool concierge. I would still recommend bringing your own if you burn easily. The highest SPF appeared to be 30, and it wasn't the best waterproof sunscreen.

The whole experience was relaxing and fabulous. I don't think I could stay at a non-grand again. I was absolutely spoiled for a week.

Room Tip: Higher floors and ones in the middle not by the ship/restaurants seemed to be less noisy.
