“This place is a Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

My husband & I went here for our honeymoon from October 21-28. I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing it is. We took a red eye in right after our wedding & as soon as we landed, we were taken right to our bus & headed off to the hotel. Neither of us have ever traveled internationally so we really didn't know what to expect. We were greeted in the lobby with champagne & Pina Coladas & the staff was so sweet. We had 2 personal butlers for the week (Jason & Victor were both amazing!) and the staff treated us like royalty all week. We didn't even have to get our own ice from the ice machine! Every morning breakfast was delivered & it was delicious. Also, the water on the whole resort is purified & did not make us sick at all. We did not go to any of the restaurants mainly because we loved the buffet & the buffet staff. We took $100 to tip the staff & they took good care of us! Every staff member you pass in the hall greets you with a smile! We went to the Rock Show & it was really awesome, they know how to put on a great show!! We also went kayaking (it was included) in the ocean which was beautiful. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this resort & my husband and I are already planning our next trip! You will not be disappointed!!

This place is amazing. I was worried about value for money but it was worth every penny, and then some. From the very second you arrive, greated with ice cold towels and porters who insist you dont lift a finger, you feel like a king at home in your palace.

1- Design

Everything here is well designed, modern and creative. Even the washrooms have character and nice flare. The grounds are lined with marble floors and granite countertops, beautiful clay columns and archways that make you feel like your in a Palace in Saudi Arabia. Some of the extravagant displays and creative design in different areas makes you feel like your in "Alice in Wonderland". The whole place is designed with such tranquility and elegance, very well done.

2- The Service
This is worth about 7 or 8 stars to me. I have been alot of places, and the people here are trained SO well. They literally trip over themselves to serve your every need. Our "butler" (one butler per floor i believe?), Kelvin, was always making sure we were looked after, but not in your face. He showed us all the features of the beautiful room (which is needed) and helped us out all week. Whether its a bell boy, mientance man, chef or poolside bartender they are all SO friendly and well trained, they try hard to learn your names, where your from, etc. Always smiling and waving, always asking how things are. This was the most amazing part of the Grand... jaw dropping service. I graduated Hospitality school in Toronto, and trust me this is spectacular guest service, I would be suprised if you could find better anywhere in the carribean.

3- The Rooms
Very cool and comfortable, including a pillow menu, jacuzzi tub, elegant shower and spacious balcony. You can even hit a button to retract the blinds in the washroom, giving your jacuzzi a million dollar view of the ocean. Very modern and the designers have thought of everything, including minibar, safe, robes, slippers, automated AC which only operates when all doors are closed, ambient floor lighting to ensure a safe midnight trip to the bathroom... everything. Housekeeping was amazing and quick as well, they will clean twice a day if you let them, sneaking back to tidy up while your at dinner :)

4- Food
Overall they do a good job, and after dozens of carribean vacations I can say they are the best ive seen, but as a Chef from Ontario I know there is room to improve as well. We enjoyed the buffets way better than the Ala carte restaurants. The buffets are serviced very well, including hosts to seat you, and waiters to fetch any kind of beverage and clear your plates very promptly. They truly understand service, my girlfriend did not pull her own chair out one single time the whole week, they were always there to seat us. Buffets are plentiful and of high quality, including some nice touchs (many live action stations, chocolate fountain, fresh grada padano wheels..) This was way better than waiting for food in the ala carte restaurants. The themed restaurants are nice inside, and the service is great for the most part, although they are too eager to take your order, and have never heard of a 2 bite check. Also dissapointed in freedom to order from the wine list, they always seemed confused or out of your selection, and would go to check the cellar but never return, and your stuck with the crappy house wines - the house red is fine but the white is terrible. Service aside, the cooks are incapable of pulling off the well thought out menus. Not one plate our table recieved all week was acceptable, except for desserts (always good) the one notable Fillet that came out blue rare, still cold even on the outside, when it was ordered mid-rare, even the refire was undercooked, and the fillet needs to be trimmed properly. They could use some culinary consulting when it comes to the ala carte, there are many basics being overlooked. I was also shocked at the japanese restaurant to see raw, diced chicken and beef on the same tray, literally packed right against eachother. Ill take my beef well done please :(
They try, but more attention to detail and some training from real culinary minds could seriously help.

5- Beach
Perfect in every way, unless you wanna surf. Reefs about 200m off shore break most of the waves, and the water is warm and calm when it hits the white sandy beach. Barefoot is fine, you wont step on anything except the occasional seaweed. White sand and turqoise waters. Some beautiful palm trees line the beach, which make for great pictures. The chairs are comfortable and in good supply (might be different in peak season) and the service was amazing as always, we never got our own drink on the beach.

6- Activites
Spectacular golf course, definilty worth a day away from the beach. Challenging par 72 with lots of beautiful well desined holes. Worth it just for the scenery. This course is amazing, well kept and the service standard is amazing of course. Driving range with ball pyramids, beverage carts roaming, and published course guide make you feel like your at a private club in the Muskoka Lakes. Tip: bring your glove and some golf balls, this is where they get ya.

Watersports and dive centre will take care of all your needs, including discover scuba (PADI), parasailing, mangrove kayak safaris, shipwreck snorkling, island trips, etc. They also have catamarans availible for you to take out on your own... thats right they will let you sail without a guide!

Activites around the resort are amazing, and freindly employees try to round people up for volleyball, waterpolo, arobics, spanish classes, free scuba in the pool, and much more. They are not pushy, but try to rally a crowd to make the activity more fun for everyone. one guy, "boom boom... in the house" (thats what he likes to be called) was especially friendly and comical, and always remembered our names.

Nightime was full of things to do, visit the billiards room, sports bar (inside a pirate ship!), cigar lounge, internet cafe, casino (with poker), or the theatre for amazing shows. They also had live music playing in the lobby bar (very nice spot) including saxaphone and other cool instruments.

Overall this place is truly special, you will not be dissapointed I guarentee it. You feel like royalty every single day. Its somewhat spoiled to say... but there are 4 Iberostar resorts right next to each other and make sure you stay at the Grand. With the coveted gold braclet, you can utilize all 4 resorts and get amazing service anywhere. If you settle for a blue or red bracelet, you arnt welcome at the grand and will be escorted out by security :) lol, also its 18+ which is nice, and its worth the extra money for the food, rooms, service... everything, even the quality of the beach chairs. Treat yourself to a week in a Palace, and book the Iberostar Grand Bavaro right now.

Room Tip: Seaview room or oceanfront is preferable, but you cannot go wrong with any room in the hotel, they a...

We have stayed at the Iberostar Grand Parisio in Mexico 3 times, wanted a change in location so came to the Grand Bavaro in Punta Cana. We were not disappointed. We loved it, Was smaller than the Grand in Mexico, but we enjoyed it very much. We did have to get to beach early to get a good spot. if you go to beach around 7:00-7:30 a.m. no problem getting your pick of chairs. Food was good, staff very nice helpful, rooms very clean. They do need to invest in air conditioning in lobby bar. We found out the flea market type shopping area on beach is more expensive than some items in hotel gift shops. My suggestion is shop the hotel gift shops in all the hotels before purchasing in beach shops.

My husband and I have been going to all inclusives for the past 10 years, Mexico 3 times, Aruba one time, Antigua 2 times and Punta Cana 5 times. We've been to Secrets, Paradisus Palma Real (twice), Majestic Elegance and lastly the Iberostar Grand in Punta Cana.
From the pool to the beach to the restaurants to the workers it is the best resort we have ever visited. We stayed for 14 days and would love to go back sometime soon. My husband is 51 and I am 49 years old so we really go to relax and enjoy the surf and sun. Not a great party place at night but none of the high end resorts really have any great parties except for Superbowl Sunday which is when we always travel. Grounds are beautiful and kept up, rooms are clean (I am very picky) and service is good. We have been around and would recommend this resort to anyone who wants a beautiful, relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: We don't spend much time is our room so we are not concerned with location but usually like a ro...

My wife and I were married in March but could not take our honeymoon until October due to business reasons. We found paradise at Iberostar Grand Bavaro Hotel. Great food, Clean resort but best of all the staff is so incredibly friendly, warm and inviting that we have made up our mind. We can only be disappointed with anywhere else and will be back! We cannot recommend this hotel enough!

Run dont walk to this fabulous place. Just got married and spent the most relaxing week with the hubby. I am not going to say that there were not glitches, because there were, however there was NOTHING that was not addressed as soon as possible. Toss a few bucks around and they "step it up". We rarely waited to be served. Another interesting issue is we went went during their slow season (End of Sept) and were concerned about getting reservations for dinner. Bottom line......EASY!!! They were always more than willing. In the end I want to thank Lisa Zwissler with Beach Bum Vacations. I am one heck of a digger when trying to save a buck regarding booking trips. Bottom line.......I got one heck of a deal and Lisa was able to beat it. I'll keep Lisa with BBV and Iberostar on the top of my list.

Room Tip: Westside so you dont get the afternoon sun. Any floor is great.

I have no complaints, we stayed 3 nights after starting at a far inferior resort and were able to move here. The occidental punta cana is where we started and were ready to cut our losses until our local delta vacation rep Pedro worked his magic and had us transfered. Cost a little more but who cares when the end result was paradise.

From the landscapers to the head of entertainment everybody was polite ready to help and extrememly attentive, or non-intrusive depending on your wants.

Food was top notch, seems strange but the best food we had was a chicken club thru room service.

It did not matter to us but the night life is non existant. But you can taxi to the clubs if you need to. The shows left alot to desire, but it is a vacation resort and not the fox theater.

We are 31 married 10 years and have 2 kids. We will definately go back.

Room Tip: Anything in this resort should be perfect
