“Neat resort with a great beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

Second time in Krabi & stayed 4 nights at this resort.

What we liked:

2 days before our trip, booking staff allowed us to change to the 4 nights promotional rate which was lower than the best available rate. A heap of freebies thrown in with the promo made the accomodation very good value.

We were upgraded from villa to deluxe seaview upon check-in. Though the room is smaller than their villas, this was topped by the view of the expansive Andaman sea that greeted us each day & the ability to chill on the balcony along with the lull of crashing waves at night. So glad they changed our room type.

The resort sits along klong muang beach which is very private and lined with soft white sand. The waters are clear but long tail boats running ashore can be disturbing to the seabed and general tranquility. The beach is safe for taking night strolls as there are several resorts along the way... a lovely way to walk off dinner.

Breakfast spread is good, offering western and asian choices. F&B is delicious but priced on the steep side. We tried the Steak BBQ night dinner which was included in our package (priced THB750/pax). You get freshly barbecued meats & an accompanying limited buffet spread. The lamb and beef was delicious and tender, best eaten hot right off the grill. There was also an entertaining fire dancer performance halfway into our meal. For cheap & equally yummy seafood/western bites, just walk out of the resort to the local eateries along the main road.

What we feel needs improvement:

Poor set of toiletries as the many comments point out. Disappointed that the hotel did not provide toothbrush - we had to head to the minimart right outside to purchase our own.

Pool needs to be opened till later than 7pm as many guests do enjoy a dip after dinner. Safety should not be a concern as the bar next to the pool operates till 10pm. Also the pool is only 1.3m deep.

In-house Kanda Spa should offer robes for guests to change into for the thai massage & some ginger tea post-massage. Maybe it's because ours was free and they were in a rush but for THB1200 the service could be more hospitable. I'd recommend to head right outside the hotel for the many THB250 massages instead where the masseurs were just as capable.

This is a wonderful place to stay if you like to be away from the crowds of Aonang and cocooned in a comfortable resort with a quiet beach and salted pool.

Tips:
Bring your snorkels and some bread to feed the tiny schools of fishes at the beach. They're within the reefs/rocks that dot the shallow waters.

Bargain when renting transport or booking tours. We managed to secure a THB1000/day car rental but didn't take up on the offer.

Try the mango sticky rice at Baanthai restaurant near the resort's entrance! It's not on the menu.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your recent stay with us and for your valuable feedback.

Bathroom amenities are in the process of being upgraded. Deluxe sea view rooms have this week been fitted out with conditioner and body lotion. Other room categories will follow soon.

I have noted your comment on the service standards in the Spa. I am sorry if your experience was not entirely satisfying. I will address this and with our new Spa Manager starting soon, I am sure standards will be adhered to at all times.

We realize that some guests would enjoy a swim later in the evening without taking any risks or creating any disturbance to the adjacent restaurant and bar where other guests enjoy a quiet candle light dinner. Unfortunately there are numerous incidents where the use of a swimming pool at night could not only disturb other guests but much more importantly, be a serious safety threat to the guests in the pool.

We are glad that you in general enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you again for your feedback.

We will be delighted to welcome you back to Beyond Resort Krabi in the future.

Kind regards,
Claude

Having read the mixed reviews on Tripadvisor, I felt skeptical if I had made the right choice booking Beyond for a 7-night stay. But it turned out good, almost very good.

We had originally booked a villa room but decided to upgrade to deluxe sea view upon arrival. Well worth it thanks to the amazing views!

The location can't be beat if you're looking for a peaceful holiday. Beyond is situated 45 minutes from Krabi airport in Klong Muang, a long and beautiful stretch of beach with only a couple of other hotels. Despite the remote location there are a few great dining options nearby, our favorite was Mother House on the street right next to the hotel. A wider range of restaurants and nightlife can be found in Ao Nang a 20-minute taxi ride away.

There have been some negative comments regarding service but we felt it was very good. Most staff spoke excellent English compared to the usual Thai standard, and most importantly, everyone were always trying to do their best. The only problem we had was with laundry, as they lost one of our items and it took two days for anyone to take care of the problem (it wasn't actually resolved until our departure day when they agreed to compensate for the missing item after they were unable to locate it).

Breakfast was adequate though nothing special, and the same goes for a la carte and cocktails at the beach bar. They also have a nightly buffet but we didn't try it.

For activities, I'd recommend a long-tail boat trip to Hong Island. You can book this at the hotel or directly from the boatmen at the beach which is obviously a bit cheaper. Even though Hong Island itself is horribly crowded, there are a couple of really nice places along the trip and the boat ride itself is fun.

We noticed a few jellyfish in the sea on some days which seems to be the case all around the Andaman sea nowadays. Just keep an eye out for them and you'll be fine. Or to be super safe, simply enjoy the huge pool which is one of the highlights of this hotel.

Overall, we enjoyed our time at Beyond and can recommend it if you get a good price for a sea view room.

Dear Sir,

thank you for your recent stay with us and for having taken the time to post a review.

We are glad to see that you enjoyed your stay with us. I am sorry about the issue with the laundry service. We are working with the third party service provider to ensure similar incidents o not reoccur.

I have noted your comment in regards to the jelly fish of which most are harmless. Their appearance is rare and seasonal and depends on the currents. We are monitoring the situation continuously. At this time there no reason to be alarmed in the Andaman sea in the greater Phuket/Krabi area and swimming is considered safe.

Thank you also for mentioning the boat trip. The four island day trip has become a favorite among our guests.

We look forward to hearing from you and to welcome you back to Beyond Resort Krabi in the future.

Kind regards,
Claude

We stayed in this hotel from 22nd Jan - 6th Feb 2013

We had a nice time, thats all we can say. It was not a fabulous stay, but we did have a nice time. I don't think the hotel is 100% or the best it could be. The room was lovely (we had up graded to a second floor villa room). We had read reviews on the cottage rooms. And while we there we had a look at the cottage rooms, they are similer to motels in the USA. As they were a little hit/miss, thats why we upgraded. We did this with our tour company as the hotel wanted more money to upgrade, we went with Hayes and Jarvis UK their price was very good. The room was very large. Bathroom large to, it was a wet room. It could have even had a bath tub in it and you wouldn't have missed the space, as it was so big. The lights in the bathroom would have been better if they had been over the mirrors! I found the bed the size of an Calafornian king, which was nice. We found it very hard, so we asked if they had a softer matteress or matteress topper which they did. So with the topper it made the bed softer (think it also made it hotter to sleep on, which was a downside, but better to sleep hot than not at all). Also we were given more pillows when we asked. The air con worked lovely and silently. TV channels were limited, but we didn't go on holiday to watch tv, so not a problem.

I did meet Claude the manager as we keep an eye on reviews, we thought it would give him a chance to listern to guests while they were staying rather than having a moan when we got back, plus giving him the opportunity to talk to us. One thing I asked about was there was only one choice of adult dry cereal. He said he would look into that and by the end of our holiday there was two more choices :-) thank you Claude. Also we asked about the happy hour that had been spoken about on previous reveiws. He said he had intended to bring that in, he did while we were there. It was an odd time though, late afternoon. I think if he had it at 7pm it would keep people in the hotel, and after a few cocktails guests might say for a meal rather than walk down to the village. It was not buy one get one free, it was 30% off. Another thing I asked about was a shop on site. Claude said he was hoping to bring that on site soon. I think if he does this it will keep more guests on site, they wont have to pop down the local shops to buy extra water or small gifts. We found the people on reception very friendly and very helpful. As all the staff were. I think it would be nicer if you get your tea/coffee bought to your table in the mornings in the restaurant, as queues form for the coffee machine, after all we are on holiday to be pampered. We only ate once during the day in the poolside bar. The meal was lovely. The pizza was large (two big for just two people, but we just about managed it lol). The bbq buffet night was wonderful and we would highly recomend it. The ceasar salad was to die for, you could have as much or little as you wanted, wish we had found this out sooner rather than later in our trip. The deserts were lovely, the chiefs are very good. Some of the time we were staying it was very windy, which caused the parasoles to fly around, some were broken, so this needs to be fixed and bases need to be heavier. As you cannot have a restful day holding onto your parasol all day hoping it doesn't fly off and hit someone. On a downside the rooms could have been cleaned more. The bedding was spotless. But the sand/dust built up and I think they seem to sweep it from one side of the room to the other rather than vacuuming, also the floors were not washed once while were staying, not good :-( When we walked on the floors at the end of the two weeks our feet were black! So yes I would say it was a mixed stay for us. Hope they get the few things we have highlighted put right and it will be a wonderful place to stay. The local taxis we haggled with the guys for the price (right outside the gate), they would take us to Krabi town 1300bart. Or tesco lotus, bigC and a shopping mall for 1300bart. Which when you think they waited for us so we had the driver for over three hours, then took you safely back to your hotel, we think thats a bargin.

Dear Sir,

thank you for having taken the time to post an extensive review.

We appreciate your feedback and we are pleased to see that you enjoyed many of the facilities and services on offer in the resort.

We have noticed quite some time ago that the lighting in the bathroom and some room categories was not well enough designed and that some areas have insufficient lighting. We will start rectifying this for all rooms in the near future.

I have noted your comment in regards to the coffee and the service will be improved not only by adding a machine but also by improving the service.

The issue with the parasols has been resolved.

Your comment about the room cleaning has been noted and I am working with the Executive Housekeeper on improving the standard and consistency.

If you visit the South of Thailand again in the future, you might like to consider staying at our sister property, Beyond Resort Khao Lak. It is an adults only and all-villa style resort on a beautiful stretch of beach of Khao Lak, an hour’s drive from Phuket International airport.

Thank you again for staying with us and for your review.

Kind regards,
Claude

We stayed at this hotel after receiving a great rate from Destinology and having had an email exchange with a Trip Advisor reviewer. I read the reviews as they appeared on here with trepidation, had I made the right choice?

Claude the manager was extremely helpful with all the questions I had and indeed when we arrived at the hotel he made sure that the room we had was ok for my husband who has slight mobility problems, we had a ground floor villa room, close to the beach but not sea view. The sea view villa rooms are gorgeous and well worth the upgrade if you can stretch to it.

I'm not going to go over all the niggles that have been included in the previous reviews, I don't mind getting my own coffee at breakfast but yes there are some, it is a new hotel in its first season and the staff are working hard to iron these out. The staff were all extremely helpful to us, there are some language issues but they try really hard to help even if they don't always understand and remember English isn't the only language they have to listen to,there were many Russians, Germans and French people there as well. The housekeeping staff in particular are really friendly.

The pool was lovely with lots of areas to go and sit and cool off. We didn't eat in the hotel but we did sample lots of cocktails sat on one of the lovely seats watching the sun set. my thanks goes to Poek (? Not sure on spelling) who introduced me to the Saim Sunray, a cocktail which seemed to get hotter each time I ordered!

We had a nice relaxing break at the Beyond at a great rate and were made to feel very welcome by all of the staff.

My issue was not the hotel but the road where all the restaurants are outside the resort, throughout the day and evening large 10 wheeler wagons pulling trailers thunder up and down, brakes squealing if they are fully laden and held up behind a tuk tuk going down the hill. On the Sunday evening there must have been around 25 - 30 that went past our restaurant in the 90 minutes we were in there. Surely an accident waiting to happen?

Room Tip: Sea view villa rooms - simply stunning!

Dear Madam,

thank you for having taken the time to post a review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you also for the detailed description on the facilities and services delivered by our team.

If I may just clarify for other readers who are not familiar with the resort: the resort's centre is not affected in any way by the traffic on the main road. The lobby, restaurants, beach bar and swimming pool are beach front, about 500 meters away from the road.

Thank you again for your review and we hope we get a chance to welcome you back to Beyond Resort Krabi in the future.

Kind regards,
Claude

Let me start this review off by saying that if I am headed towards Krabi again, I will definitely stay at the Beyond Resort. Its location is beautiful and the resort overlooks a lovely part of the sea. The restaurant, the bar, the swimming pool and the sea view are to die for and it was a beautiful place for my wife and I to spend our honeymoon.

The rooms are nice and clean and the entire resort is well maintained. However, it was new and as mentioned by other travelers, this place has a few teething troubles:

a. The wait - when you get to Beyond Resort, you're made to wait. My wife and I had a long journey that involved an additional layover at Suvarnabhoomi airport and we were made to wait twenty minutes beyond the stipulated check-in time of 1400 for the room to be cleaned, resulting in us having to hang out at the lobby area for close to an hour.

b. English - the staff is friendly and courteous, but English isn't a strong point and this affects the service. One evening, I had to call six times and wait for more than one hour for plates with forks and knives to be delivered to our room.

c. Food - The breakfast spread is splendid, though the a la carte menu was good, but not outstanding.

These issues would have put me off normally, but the sincere nature of the resort staff and their attempt to make our stay a comfortable one made me overlook this in favour of all the other positives that this wonderful holiday brought along.

Room Tip: Sea facing rooms are the best!

thank you very much for your review. We are glad to see that you enjoyed your stay with us despite a few service failures. We continue to work hard on resolving those and to improve the efficiency and the communication skills of the staff. The resort is now establishing itself and this also gives us the opportunity to hire more qualified people. This will certainly allow us to take the service standards up to the next level.

Thank you again. We will be delighted to welcome you back to Beyond Resort Krabi in the future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 11 nights at the Beyond Resort in Krabi. We has a first floor villa in the gardens a short walk from the beach. We enjoyed the room but bathroom toiletries very basic

Breakfast good (but not much in the way of cereals) and very good food on Thai a-la-carte menu

Infinity pool very good - used this more than sea as beach rocky at low tide. Had sunbeds just off beach which were a bit close together and not condusive to lying on front getting back brown. The hotel must invest in some larger and heavier bases for their umbrellas - currently these blow over in a stiff breeze causing mahem around the pool and adjacent to the beach.

Staff wonderful but they do need some more training in the finer points of looking after guests (removed table knife and set out butter knife, miniscule amounts of wine poured into glasses involving much twisting of bottle and some spillage). Very hard to get shirty though as they are so pleasant. Would have been nice to have seen the manager (European) to pass on comments (good & bad) but he only appeared on the evening of the Chinese New Year Buffet and as we were not having this he never came near our table

Room Tip: If in Villa have second floor - ceiling with concealed lighting into roof space is spectacular and n...

Myself and my wife stayed for our second time here and were not disappointed ,
the rooms are great and the bed is one of the nicest I have slept in and the rooms were cleaned perfectly evry day and the cleaning staff always had a nice smile whenever we met them in the corridors which is so important ,,
The views from our rooms were breathtaking ,being able to here the ocean lapping up against the shore is fantastic
the hotel has improved a lot since we were last here and I am sure it will continue to improve .

I think the kitchen breakfast cooking area needs to be cleaned better as I am a chef I always look at the cleanliness of kitchens and as all the hotel is so clean the kitchen area is letting the rest of the hotel down it needs to be better cleaned even the window looking in to the main kitchen were very dirty and the egg cooking station looks as if was never cleaned .

I did not eat in the hotel other than breakfast so can not comment ,I know they do a different themed buffet every night and the prices looks very reasonable .

the cocktails at the pool bar were lovely and good and strong and the beach is beautiful .

I really like this resort and hope to return soon .
