Fred's Catfish is the most well-known restaurant in Mammoth Spring by far. The catfish itself is really good--lightly battered, just-right seasoning, generous portions. The fries aren't my favorite--kind of Hardin-Sysco quality, but you can get a baked potato. The hushpuppies are small but delicious! Fred's sells its yummy pickeled tomato relish which is outstanding. Fred's usually has a good crowd most of the time. The local flavor is interesting to observe. If you're looking for frills, bells and whistles, you won't find it inside Fred's--just a quaint, but basic Ozark town restaurant. Fred's is directly across the street from the Mammoth Spring State Park located on Main Street across from Wood's Riverbend restaurant.
