Much of the cathedral roof was blown away in the typhoon, but the building structure withstood the surge and strong winds much better than its neighbours and community. To the right of the cathedral, the seminary building hides the ruins of the original Jesuit building, and a plaque commemorates the history of the cathedral, changing hands between Jesuit, Augustine and Franciscan communities, and a year spent as a hospital post liberation. The priest is an honest and frugal man with a distaste for corruption, a good example to others. He gave me and a group of volunteers lunch at short notice, as well as an honest view of the relief efforts in Palo.
