“Terrific Vacation! Will go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect! It is a 30 second walk out side to the lovely town of sosua. The rooms were basic, but clean. Food was ok. The staff was amazing! The front desk staff were very nice and welcoming. The entertainment staff were the absolute best! They work so hard and go out of their way to please you. I would like to especially thank Kinito for working so hard and making are stay the absolute best! I will definitely visit this resort again.

This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic. The hotel was clean and the staff welcoming. We enjoyed the beaches, the entertainment staff and the weather. The food was plentiful, but the choice of food did not change that much. You always had the choice of a pasta dish, or chicken, or fish and of course plenty of vegetables. We went to the A la Carte restaurant, once, the wait was pretty long and the food was not outstanding. When we left the resort and ventured out to the town of Sosua, it is like running a gauntlet to get to the other main beach, (which is a 15 minute walk away) the vendors outside are very persistent and want you to come into their shops, each of the shops had much of the same merchandise. You have to negotiate to get a good price, if you do decide to buy any of the stuff, from the vendors. When we eventually got to the beach, it was the same again, with constant vendors trying to get you to buy their stuff!! This was quite off putting to us. In general the staff at the Casa Marina, make you feel welcome, we definitely enjoyed the entertainment with Bauo, Kinito and the other staff. They work very hard to make you feel welcome and appreciated. We will travel again to the Dominican Republic, we will most probably try another part of the country though. I would recommend the hotel for families, couples or singles. The only other downside was from Thursday to Saturday there is a lot of local Dominicans who do take over the resort, and there can be a wait to get food, not everyone likes to wait in queue, and take their turn. Overall, it was very nice to visit the country and we did go on a tour to visit the local rum factory and the cigar factory, also we went up on the cable car to see the statue of Jesus which was quite outstanding, our tour guide was very informative about the country and about the culture of Dominican Republic. Our Sunwing Representative, Sandy was very informative as well and willing to assist with any challenges we may have had on resort.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room, we were near all the amenities and near the pools etc.

If you are looking for the perfect place to relax in the Dominican Republic and enjoy the sun while being entertained 24/7, this is the resort to go to. It's all inclusive, with live shows on the weekend as well as guest participation shows during the week. The staff are friendly and are willing to do anything to make your stay a great one. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Room Tip: The rooms near the beach have the best view

The Casa Marina Beach Resort is a nice All Inclusive Resort
If you have never been to an "All Inclusive" resort before, you will love it.
All you can eat and drink, all included.
And they do not skimp on the alcohol in the drinks
Now mind you the rum can strip paint off wood, but they pour a lot of it.
And the beer is local and cold and straight from the tap.

I was fond of the restaurant
They served a lot of very typical Dominican dishes including Sancocho which I loved.
However, it is very institutional, and certainly a buffet with all the attendant baggage that a buffet and buffet food brings, but it was over all pretty tasty.
Only exception was the Steak. One night they had a carving station where they carved a roast.
Apparently our "Steak" lost the third race at Pimlico because it was anything but tender.

The grounds were clean and well kept
The pools were large and filled to the brim with kids.
Lots and lots of Local Dominicans. I would say 90% locals and 10% Tourists from other countries.
The rooms were nice enough and the beds were comfortable
I personally had a problem with the Air Conditioning in the first room so I got moved
And in the second room they had literally ripped the little button that allows you to control the temperature off the control panel. So you had a choice of on or off and "Cold" was not an option. Cool? Yes. Cold? Not so much.

In the evening there was a skit comedy cultural show in the main auditorium.
It was in Spanish so I did not know what was going on, but I was there with 2 young Dominican women who thought it was the greatest show they had ever seen. Lots of dancing, some comedy, more dancing, your usual "Cultural" show. As such, if you are Dominican I would strongly suggest you watch the show.

I paid $172.00 per night for 3 people in 1 room. So slightly less than $60 per person.

At that price I thought it was a very good bargain.
I would recommend it

The grounds of this resort are absolutely immaculate. They are a joy to walk around and very well kept. The private beach is one of the best beaches I have ever been on however note that the waves and undercurrent are not suitable for small children.

The room was below average even by Caribbean standards. It was very old and several things such as the room's only light did not work. Complaints to the front desk did not work and we finally got it fixed by bribing a member of the cleaning staff.

The front desk and a la carte restaurant service was decent however the service everywhere else was abysmal. The service staff in the buffet restaurant showed outright disdain for the tourists. This isn't a Dominican thing as most locals that I met were charming - it is definitely a problem with this restaurant. We had similar issues with the towel service and the people at the scuba desk - they barely had the time of day to assist you. It was their loss in the end as they got no tips.

Despite the negative aspects of this resort, I would probably return again if I could get a good deal just to enjoy the grounds and private beach.

Rooms are very good for sosua, Staff was very helpful , plenty of views, pools and alcohol. The food was decent too. I would recommend to venture outside the hotel, there are many opportunities for golf, 4wheeling, beach sports , you name it , its close or within a taxi ride.

Room Tip: ask for the rooms on the top floor facing the ocean, they are not that much more than a regular room...
