“Dreadful, absolutely dreadful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

No water-either hot or cold in room. Door lock did not work. No light in bathroom. Sliding door did not lock. Bar was out of white wine. Refused to give us a new room.
No matter what your budget do not stay here-stay home if necessary.

Room Tip: Do not come here-stay home if you can not afford another place.

This is the third time I have stayed at Talanquera. The first time when it was still a Barcelo property and it was pretty good as a 2-3 star beach hotel. It's been all down hill since. I will never stay there again. It is cheap and you get what you pay for. Room: TV not working. Tile in bath broken, Toilet runs without stopping. Shower only works if the water pressure is up, which it rarely is. Internet only works in hotel lobby, not in room although there is a modem in room. AC keeps the room cool, but very damp. Loud music plays all the time on the beach even after we made several requests to lower the volume.
Food: Some of the food was just OK, but lots was terrible. Several of our group got travelers diarrhea from the food. I had a chance to walk through part of the kitchen...OH MY...indescribably dirty. Makes you loose you appetite. Be careful what you eat there.
The evening beach and stage shows were partly OK, but adult oriented and not suitable for the children/families in the audience. Crude dancing and potty jokes. Really?? Just stupid and low class.
On the plus side, the beach is lovely with white sand and calm waters. That's the best that can be said about this sad, decrepit property.
Good parts: Beach is lovely and very enjoyable.

Room Tip: Beach facing...if you must stay here

Stayed at the resort only one night, because it was relatively close to the airport, and we had a very early flight. All in all, the stay was quite pleasurable. We had two very good meals, noon and evening, and a decent box lunch ready for us in the morning. The food at both meals was more than adequate, well prepared and very tasty. The hamburgers were a delicious surprise, after eating beans and rice, for 9 or 10 days, during our mission trip to the hinterlands. The drinks were very good, at all the bars, with Pablo being an excellent bartender. Service at the tables was very good, and the waiters were very attentive.
The rooms were comfortable, air conditioning was excellent, ( in fact, our room was too cool, initially), and the showers worked well. The only minor problem was that the toilets didn't flush completely.
The beach was clean, there was no seaweed present, and the lounge chair's were comfortable. The beach sellers were kept at bay by the ever present security guards, so they weren't really a problem. We could purchase goods, if we so desired.
I would definitely stay at the Talanquera Resort again.

I stayed here as a package from jetblue getaways. Flight and hotel for a week it was a great deal. Unfortunately not as amazing as it should have been.

Upon arrival we waited for a shuttle to take us there, the shuttle stops at 5 or 6 amazing hotels before you get to Barcelo. Disappointment then sets in.
They assigned us a room far away from everything, good thing nothing worked in it. We went back asked for another room. They assigned us the floor directly below that one. After walking all the way across the property three times now with luggage that room hadn't even been cleaned. We lucked out on the 3rd try with a room across the street on the beach side. Not an ocean view but it was clean.
Staff was a hit or miss, I had to speak spanish to get any service during the meals. They literally ignored us otherwise. Food was mediocre, same thing more or less every night. The lunch is hamburgers and hotdogs buffet style. Drinks were so watered down it was a joke.
What I hated the most was the amount of hustlers trying to sell goods on the beach. Im laid out tanning I don't want to buy this massive painting you did of the beach or jewelry I can get at claires.
But what really got me, locals can buy day passes during the weekends to enjoy use of the pool. The weekend I was there it was like chuck e cheese or discovery zone (remember that?!?!) kids everywhere, using 5 loungers for 2 persons but come meal time not a single one remained. This place was only good because of the value I got for the entire trip. Would I suggest anyone goes and paid full price absolutely not.

Will never return to this place again and will not recommend anyone to stay here! There is no phone line to call anywhere...when asking staff about it, they simply lead you on by saying that it will be fixed in the morning or the next day, and so on. Often there is no water...can be in the evening or in the morning. Hard to control the air conditioning settings; not many English channels on TV. The food...hardly anything to eat for breakfast and it's the same every day; staff is not around and one must search for them; when they do appear, no one speaks any English making it very difficult to communicate. Lunch is rice and beans and perhaps a piece of fruit if you're lucky. We never had supper at the hotel and therefore cannot comment. The keys to the rooms don't work too well and I had to go to the front desk more than once to ask for new ones or have one of them come to open the door. There is usually no one at reception and, after calling and calling, a security guard shows up who yells for someone to come. The desk attendant even told me that the cards are old and should be replaced. This place should have one star if that! Will NEVER go back.

This was a family holiday, for myself and my two sons in the Talanquera Beach resort in the lovely Dominican Republic, and we were not disappointed in our choice of venue. It is a lovely hotel, with calypso playing wherever you go...... even had a go at doing the merengue dancing!
We were all inclusive & were not disappointed in the meals...always plenty to eat with lots of variety & the staff were all happy go lucky & very friendly, & that applied to the cleaners, waiters, bar & restaurant staff, & even at reception. Everyone seemed to go out of their way to make our holiday a really enjoyable and unforgettable experience!
The grounds are gorgeous, with lots of shrubs and flowers, & the maid service was second to none, with regular fresh linen and towels change, with a flower on our turned down bed daily. The beach is not too far & is gorgeous golden sand. My sons hired bicycles locally, & went off cycling, while the most strenuous thing that I did in holiday at this lovely resort, was to turn over on my sunbed to toast the other side!!. The pool too is great, if you didn't fancy a short stroll to this lovely white sand beach.... & the weather is absolutely glorious every day.....even if it rains, its warm rain & practically dry before it hits the floor!
This is a dream location in Juan Julio that you'll want to return to, time after time after time to relive a really great holiday experience.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked nice.

We paid $1850.00 for two of us.This resort is worth $500.00 at best.First of all Sunwing never informed us that insted of filying direct from St.John's to Punta Cana we'll fly to St.John N.B. than to Halifax and only than to Punta Cana.So 4,5 huor flight became 8 hour flight. And when we arrived to the resort around 11 PM we were told that they ran out of proper bracelets and they gave us temporary ones that were different color wich ment that we couldn't get anything without paying.Well, there was nothing there anyway, but bartender gave us one drink. We got proper bracelets only around 9 AM.So we got lucky because brekfast was over at 10.The hotel looks like a gost town.First day there were FOUR peple on the resort.Only one building was partially occupied. We guessed that maximum 10-11 rooms nad patrons. The room was big but rundown( our bathtub had big crack in it so we were wery carefull showering).Water pressure berally existed. And water was just warm. The buffet was moved to a snack bar area,so there was no room to put more that 3 -4 items of food. And it was very basic but not bad.We had no problem with stomack.Bartenders don't make drinks.Everything is in premixed bottles like from our liquor stores. At some point they ran out of draft beer and gave it to people from the bottles that they kept in the sink and if somebody would ordered it again they would pour it from the bottle they had open while ago.And one evening they ran out of rum.... There was one knight with some kind of entertament but it was pitifull. This was our 4th trip to Dominikan Republik and we were shocked because every other trip was great no matter what resort we stayed in-3 star or 4 or 4.5 .Staff was just ok.Despite the fact that there were may be 20 people at the most it took awhile for them to bring anything we'd order to drink besides water.Beach was ok .Clean enough. We wouldn't recomend this place to anybody!!!!! We stayed here from 11th to 18th of March 2013.

Room Tip: There are NO good rooms there
