“hated this place”

firstly let me say if you want a lovely relaxing holiday then i supose this place is only good for all inclusive bit. hotel looks lovely from outside but then on the inside it was a honeymoon from hell it really was we didnot get our honeymoon package our rep was simply rude and pathetic.we had to change rooms three times.well that was a story in itself our first room was two noisy as we had thirteen fans beneath us so we asked for another room which was on beack front which is fine if you asked for ground floor room and as my wife suffers from verigo so they then gave us room from hell it was porky had mold on the ceiling bedding smelt musty, our toilet broke twice so i reported this then the airconditiong leaked and we both slipped i reported this also we got new one replaced.entertainment was mear to nil as amatuer dancing perfomed every night at first it was good and day two very boring.i found the staff quite ignorant flies all over food at buffet it was quite offputing i had a cockroach in my food once which was still alive.we had a guard patrolling our patio with a shotgun.nly good thing about the holiday was the all inclusive bit and even that ended at 11 then you had to go into other part where the disco was and that was only spanish music playing.hence not many people in.on housekeeping they did change bedding everyday which was still smelling of mold. very disappointed with this holiday because it was meant to be so special when it was a nightmare would i be going back most certainly not. thankyou

2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2005

I stayed at the Talanquera from June 23 - 27, 2005, with my boyfriend and another couple. The hotel is a 3 star hotel. Pictures on Expedia are accurate. Would I stay here again, only if I was on a budget or traveling with kids.

Over all my experience was OK. It rained almost every day for at least 2 hours and the hotel did not have activities planned. Disco was crowded every night but played Spanish music 90% of the time, no variety.

My biggest complaint: Flies in the buffet dining area.

Insiders Tip: Make friends with someone on staff and you are sure to have a better time. All it takes is a monetary tip every now and again, this helped us at dinner and at the bars.

1- Placed in room 504 - 1st floor beach front room, was very pleased at first. But the room was always damp (clothes never dried, walls were wet) and dark. This appeared to be a problem with all rooms on the 1st floor facing the beach. Hallway lights did not come on until the evening, thus hallway was often dark.

2- Food / Drink Service - definately not a lot of variety, I ate oatmeal every morning. Lines very long for buffet, wait service slow. Flies were all over the buffet area. I ate in the Italian restaurant - OK food & no flies- part of the all inclusive plan. French restuarant excellent put has a surcharge.

Drinks were no frills but plentiful. We made friends with a waitress and whenever she was working we received great service and better liquor.

3- Beach - nice with lots of chaise loungers

4-Pool - nice area but can get very very crowded. Please note beach and pool are topless areas.

5-Hotel in general - nice grounds/gardens. Staff is adequate. Lots of locals on vacation. Not much to see within walking distance of the hotel.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2004

My wife & I just returned to the bleak reality of frigid temperatures & snow after having spent two delightful weeks at the Talanquera Beach Resort. For the past 5 years we vacationed in Punta Cana at a 5 star resort which, overall, did not warrant the noticeable extra cost as compared to our stay here. All the basics(beach, food, accommodations, etc)were equal to or better than those at the 5 star. The staff couldn't have been more friendly & helpful with no hint of expecting a gratuity. The weather was ideal and the bathing was likewise. After reading some of the negative reviews, I wondered if the writer(s) were commenting on this same facility. Yes, the beach & surf were not totally sandy(well, bring along or purchase a pair of water sandals to protect your feet). Yes, at times the dining service was not always speedy(this is the Caribbean where the pace is refreshingly slow-no "New York minutes!"). Yes, most staff does not have a great command of languages other than their native tongue, Spanish(bring along a Spanish/whatever dictionary or a hand-held translator and wow them with your interest in their language and customs). I am convinced that some folks would indeed find fault with their stay at the "original" Garden of Eden!!!
