My wife and I stayed at Hooked for an extended weekend in early Dec 2012. The establishment is under new ownership and they are doing a great job adding new amenities such as water filtration (drinkable) for all faucets, amazing yoga studio and much more! The manager, Florian, does a great job of keeping in touch through email as well as in person once you arrive. He can handle arranging anything you need!!!
SURF: Hooked is located a short 5min walk to Encuentro which provides a pumpy right, a few fun A-frames and then the rippable left which needs a N or NNE swell. Overall the surf was fantastic for beginners to advanced surfers. Plenty of surf schools available with both NSP long boards and used performance shortboards. The higher end boards tend to be a little beat up but unless your a advanced surfer who is picky about their boards you’ll have a plenty to choose from.
FOOD: This is the only problem with Hooked and the whole Encuentro area. You only have 2 choices for food, 1) Coconut Palms Hotel which is about 10 mins from the beach or 5 mins from Hooked. The second option is a small restaurant shack attached to the last surf school on the beach. It’s actually the best food I had during my stay, but it’s only open during the day. There is also a guy who sales amazing Empanadas out of the back of his truck. Saying that, I strongly recommend that you plan on renting a scooter from Hooked! It will allow you to buy groceries in Caberete (10min drive) as well as enjoy the all restaurants and night life it has to offer. It also makes the walk back and forth from the beach a little easier.
Hope that helps,
