“An oasis in paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013 via mobile

A great little spot at the end of the beach with large rooms, a very nice pool and sensational view. Another other nice thing about this hotel is it offers choice. You can lounge in the pool or the beach is steps away. You can dine at their great restaurant overlooking the ocean or you can wander down the beach to a dozen or so other options. I will return and use this place as a hideaway and when I grow tired of hiding there is plenty of action nearby. Highly recommended, enjoy!

Can not recommend this beautiful resort more highly. The 3 bedroom suite is stunning in itself. The 2 bedroom is almost as good. The staff is exceptional from Ted the general manager, right down to the security staff.
The restaurant on site is better quality and better value than anything on the beach.
As for the beach. Do you like clean white sand and beautiful rolling blue waves. If not, find another place. Do you like a secluded basically empty beach. If not, you know the deal.
Oh, by the way, the redone infinity pool is spectacular.
Enjoy, enjoy

We stayed in a three bedroom penthouse at the Velero Beach Resort for a week in mid July. From the start of our stay to the end we throughly enjoyed this resort. The place is in immaculate shape and we loved our penthouse. Totally the way to go with a larger group (we had 6 in our group). The on site restaurant was fantastic and catered to our every need. We even hired the chef to cook in out penthouse for an evening - what a treat!

The hotel is in a great location - just far enough away from the club scene but close to everything. The GM Ted runs a great operation and often took time to hang with us and chat.

Without question we will be staying at Velero when we return to Cabarete. Thanks for a great stay!

Room Tip: Penthouses are great and offer fantastic views

Wow! This place is beautiful. And so laid back. The restaurant serves the best breakfast at reasonable prices while you sit back and enjoy the ocean with your morning café/coffee
The pool is great, and there are several sun lounging beds, and beach chairs available to relax in the sun.
The weekend we were there, there was some great local musicians entertaining at the restaurant.
I highly recommend the Velero because of quality, location, price, and tranquility. It's got them all!

Very good location for this 28 room hotel. Clean and spacious rooms, nice restaurant on site, supermarket and bank one block away and steps down the beach to beach bars and other restaurants. The pool (scheduled to be redone next month) was nice and refreshing. The staff and general manager, Ted, were super accommodating and attentive to our needs. They have security to make sure nothing bad is going on. Additionally they have gated and secure parking on the premises, so you can leave your vehicle and feel good about it. The grounds are well taken care of and make for good photo opportunities. If your are staying in Cabarete, this is where you should do it.

We joined friends at the beach front Restaurant at Velero for a great Saturday night of soft jazz music and one of the best meals in Cabarete! Food was beautifully presented and extremely tasty - a rare treat and a great find for us because we live in Cabarete and it's just a five minute walk from our home. The location of this hotel keeps it out of the mainstream beach nightclub area and still let's you enjoy sun, sand and surf either onsite or 5 minute walk along the beach to the main Cabarete beach, restaurant and shopping area. Great place to stay. Great management and a unique hideaway location.

This was our first stay at The Velero Resort and everything was perfect from the view of the beach-side room, to the perfect pool, to the perfect food, service and ambiance (and great prices) at Victor's Restaurant, to the cleanliness, soft towels and THE BEST VIEW ON THE ISLAND OF THE NIGHTLY SUNSETS! We loved the calm and tropical feel! The General Manager Ted Foster was warm, charming and professional, and has created the perfect atmosphere at a wonderful and intimate resort. The walk up the beach is one of the best of any of two dozen islands we have visited over the years. You will love the kindness of the locals, the fun craziness of the resort town at night plus the romantic setting of the hotel. You don't have to be a kiteboarder to thoroughly enjoy Cabarete and the activities on the North Coast. We will return soon!

Room Tip: If you want the sunset or ocean view, get a a top story room. If you like a poolside and beach feel...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Velero Beach Resort was the first luxury Cabarete hotel to be built and the visionary architect chose the best location on the entire beach to build. Our grounds are sheltered from the wind for the non-windsurfers, but 5 meters into the water the windsurfer or kiter will have access to the trade winds. Velero Beach Resort is the only one of the Cabarete hotels to have a small reef right out front that forms shallow tidal pools at low tide. These are perfect for the toddlers to play in protected from the waves. Our restaurant is also the only one in Cabarete that is directly on the water for perfect sunsets! ... more   less
