Me and my boyfriend had the worst vacation at this resort. As New Yorkers we do expect certain amemities. This HOTEL lacks of all of them. Don't let the Wyndham Hotel name fool you.

FOOD- The hotel has 2 restaurants, Italian and Mexican. The hotel also has a Buffet. Both restaurants were awful. All day buffet offered BORING breakfast. For pancake syrup theye had honey, bacon taste horrible, pancakes don't bother. Buffet food was boring and nasty. I cannot forget the Pizza with NO tomato sauce, NIGHTMARE!

DRINKS- Watery drinks, No top shelf liquor. Soft drinks like SODA were always FLAT!

POOL- POOL is small and it poorly kept.

BEACH- Dirty and BEWARE of waves. ANNOYING BEACH VENDORS WHO ARE VERY DISRESPECTFUL WATCH THEM.

GROUNDS- The grounds were ok., not great. Water fountain was full of dirty GREEN water and it didn't work properly.

SMELL- AWFUL, IT SMELLS LIKE SEWAGE!

ROOMS- BED was very uncomfortable.

INTERNET- Not working when we there. Staff lied to us daily about when is going to be for service. We had to walk 15 minutes to check our email.

ACTIVITIES- SO SO

STAFF- Some of them were helpful.

TIME SHARE SALES PEOPLE- ANNOYING, tell tell to stay AWAY!

I wouldn't go back even if it was free. It was the worst vacation I had. Europeans and Canadians love this resort, maybe because there expectations are less than mine. The NEGATIVE reviews are TRUE! DO NOT GO TO THIS RESORT.

just got back from the wyndham. The resort itself was pretty decent .There is a weird smell right when you get into the resort itself, that smell was in that area the whole time .It was there only in that one spot though ,went with my wife we never felt unsafe at the resort or in cabarete day or night. We went to cabarete nearly every day and night too .the food takes a little to get used to however , i'm told that this is a trait of the dominican republic .There was just one bar open , that made it kind of a hassle to get a drink if you are down on the beach . Just like any all inclusive resort the glasses are very small .My advice if down on the beach get multiple drinks at once with plenty of ice. The beach itself is nice , the water is great. The locals trying to sell stuff all the time is gets anoying, if you just ignore them like you are deaf they get the hint. Cabarete is a fun little city just minutes down the beach. Sales reps at the resort hound you a little bit for the time share presentation, we never went. The staff is great along with the activities staff they were great .This resort is not a five star by no means, but it is a nice resort in a great location , good value you pay for what you get, after all the rooms are nice and clean , as well you get super views. We had a ocean front with a king bed. The grounds are kept up very well, nice landscaping and the pool is great too.

This was my first time traveling to the dominican, and it was an unbelievable experience. This was an amazing resort with beautiful features. The staffs were amazing, and would go to any length. The room was good, with the air condition blasting at a nice tempuerature, the bathroom was beautiful just that their sewage is not that strong so no toilet paper in the toilets. The resort was just breath taking, the gardens were maintained daily. The food was not all that great, by the end of the week i was craving for home cook meals. The beach was nice, the only thing wrong with the beaches is there are too many people all up in your face trying to sell you things and DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING ON THE BEACH, GO TO THE CITY IT'S ABOUT 10x CHEAPER!!!!!!!!!. On the east side of the beach it was a bit dirty since there was no other resort there, but there were plenty of beach lounge chairs.

Overall I had a great time an excellent resort and for future travels will use viva wyhmdum resorts

me and my wife were at viva windham tangerine apri 2 to9 2006 very good resort its a small resort but very well organized different buffet every night food was excellent pizza very good there is so much of a selection in the buffet you always find something you like there not alote of bars but everything is close there a draft pump serve youself at the buffet restorant and in the snack bars so if the main bar is busy go and serve yourself

the beach is very nice but windy sometime so i would recomend to bring a travel mug for your drink so the sand doesn't go in. beach vendors are a peste but after a few days they leave you alone their prices are way to expensive if you want cheap souvenirs walk on the beach for 10 min to the town cald cabarete and shop around before you buy because you can get better deals be careful when you buy wood check if you see little holes some kind of insects canada customs will take it and burn it.

every night they have a show around 9:30 they are very good we went on a catamarantrip for snorkeling and a drunk if you like drinking and snorkeling it's the place to be when they open the bar they really open the bar we went shopping at dollar store before we went and got alote of thing for kids like pencils crayon coloring books and gave some to the bartenders and maids it's unbeleivable how they appreciate little thing and i couldn't beleive the service that they give you i would recomend this resort to anyone go and enjoy yourself if you go alone or one couple you always meet someone to party with if you have any question don't be shy e-mail me

These reviews are frequently difficult to use as everyone has different expectations. I will try to be objective and factual rather than offer opinions.

The location is excellent on a windy beach, an easy walk to Cabarete. Many all-inclusives are sterile and leave you without access to local towns. This is not the case here as the town is a 7 minute walk on the beach away. The beach is not good for snorkeling but has good sand, nice body surfing waves and has good sailing, windsurfing, and kiteboarding.
Four stars for location if you like wind sports and local town access.

The grounds are well kept but run down. The vegetation is neat and beautiful. The tennis court is very worn and minimally functional. The pool is clean but worn out too. Half of the beach chairs have broken struts. The Hobie Cats, boogie boards and windsurfers are all extremely worn and barely functional too. This is common with most things in D.R.

The rooms were clean and functional. Nothing special but nice. Take a shower early in the afternoon as all the hot water is gone by 5pm so your pre-dinner shower is usually cold. They are what you would expect in a 3 star place in Florida. Our rooms were "Ocean Front" but really they were pool front and over a noisy bar. The air conditioner noise made sleeping easy however.

The food was fair to poor. The local type foods at the buffet were great, but most anything else was not up to par. The mexican restaurant food was pretty good. The Italian restaurant food was terrible. It is too bad the hotel doesn't offer a breakfast and lunch only plan, as the beach restaurants in Cabarete were excellent. If you go leave the resort and try La Casita de Papy for seafood, Lax for anything and the Pomador for pizza.
One to two stars for food. Two stars for drinks.

We went on several excursions. All were great fun. Iguana Mama runs a 25km mountain bike trip that was excellent. We worked hard in a small group and went swimming in a cave near the national park near Cabarete as part of the ride. Max is a great guide at Iguana Mama. Ask for him. The bikes were worn out but they claim 30 new bikes are on there way form the US now. We had 3 flat tires and all the chains weres stretched out makeing some of the up hill riding tough.

Another great trip was with Helmut at Get Wet Adventures. Hopefully he will have a web site up and running soon. He took us "canyoning" We followed a river in the mountains jumping off 20-35 foot cliffs into water pools, rapeling off huge water falls and working our way down a mountain river. It was high adventure but well run and safe. The trip was suitable for fit people over the age of 12.

Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding provided excellent instructors for kiteboarding with well maintained equipment. She runs a friendly operation only 50 meters from the hotel beach.
Highly recommended.

We went out in the country side in what is called "funny buggies" or "go buggys". The funny or go buggy is a go cart with a signifcant suspension and little bigger motor. The operator we used is at the Breezes Resort on the way to Puerto Plata. The operation is called Pionia Rental. His equipment is completely worn out and nonfunctional. We had an axle break and wheel fall off on one cart. The guide tried to blame it on the client driver for hitting a tree. The driver did not hit anything and fortunately an assistant guide vouched for the client. My cart ran out of gas. Two other carts had electrical problems that were not fixable on the trail. Over all we all ended up carrying the guides back in our carts and we waited in the hot sun doing nothing on two occasions for 45 minutes each. We all asked for partial refunds as the majority of the trip was sitting around. Edgar,The man who runs and claims to own the Pionia operation refused any refund at all. He also rents cars, jeeps and scooters. I would avoid any interaction with this vendor. I would also probably avoid any "fun buggy" ride as the machines are fragile and not up to the task. Certainly stay away from Pionia Rental at the Breezes Resort.

Lastly don't expect customer service at the Viva Wyndham to be up to a European or North American standard. Many guest concerns were ignored by the front desk staff and excursion desk staff. The resort staff is very rule oriented and unwaivering in their ability to think beyond to provide help or assistance to clients. This was common at the resort amoung all the guests we talked with both from Eurpoe and North America. We also over heard the staff talking in spanish about guest requests and belittling the guest and situation. It is too bad and hopefully the management of the hotel will try to improve the culture of the staff.
