We walked by Papi's so many times, saw all the reviews on TripAdvisor and heard some great reports from the locals. "You gotta try the "Langostinas a la Papi" was the theme, so we did. We walked in off the beach and were seated right there. There's dining rooms on the street-side and and upstairs as well. Papi's is a large place. We ordered one meal to share, which was enough for the two of us. Our conch appetizer and caprese salad were extraordinary - fresh and tasty just right. The langostinas, as is the shrimp special, are served up swimming in creamy coconut curry sauce in a huge round saucepan. Both offerings, as we could see at our neighbors table, were u-peel-em. We dove in to the tasty items and soon they were gone, If that description makes you happy, try Papi's, But for us, it's not exactly our preferred style of cooking.
The service was terrible, not just slow which is OK for fresh prep, but inattentive to a fault. Ordering took too long as we watched a neighboring table seated afterwards managing far better. No one was coming by to check on us, and politely harking "senor!" was ignored. To get a second drink, we got up from the table to go find our waiter. The menu indicated a 16% tax and a 10% charge for service would be added. So we thought, "these folks are not working for tips, are they?"
At the end of the meal, we were offered a complimentary shot glass of rum and honey, a nice touch. The bill, including the surcharges was DP2500 (about USD62), and can be paid with cash, AMEX, or MasterCard - all the same. No Visa.
