“Romantic getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

This hotel is perfect for a romantic getaway.
Two hours away is Bahia de las Aguilas, the most beautiful beach I've ever seen, the sand, the cristal water... Wow! It looks like a pool.
The restaurant at Casa Bonita is very good, the rooms are very comfortable.
They have a great spa!! I got an anti stress massage right next to the river it was very relaxing.
Also we tried their zip line, I almost fainted from fear hahaha but I made it! Will definitely go back next year.

This is a very intimate hotel. The views to the mountain and the ocean are terrific. Honeymooners and couples will enjoy this hotel a lot. Also, you can make differents tours and excursions in that beautiful part of Dominican Republic.

We still have today and some of tomorrow to go but we love this Boutique Hotel. We drove the 3 hours from Santo Domingo, and I have to say, the traffic in Santo Domingo is crazy but on the drive here..they are maniacs...beware the people who decide to overtake coming towards you last minute! Have your wits about you more than if you were driving in Santo Domingo. But having arrived safe and sound, we were greeted pleasantly at the security post and they were expecting us, drove up to reception, they had our paper work ready to complete. A lovely young gentleman brought us the most delicious lemon & mint welcome drink! So refreshing after our 3 hr drive. Most of the staff speak some english. We do speak a little spanish but it hasn't been necessary to use, so far. We enquired about going to Bahia de Las Aguilas and were told that the drive is 2hrs, they asked if we wanted a picnic basket packed and they do sandwiches and beer etc. I asked for mine to be a salad, no bread and had a lovely salad prepared. We changed the beer to water and it all came in a small esky on ice, except for the sandwich which was presented lovely in a large open basket. At your destination you go to Restaurant Santiago and take a boat from there. This was easy to find, the road was good..we did this today. 100 pesos each to enter the National Park and 2000 peso for the boat ride for the two of us. So, so worth it. Back to the Casa Bonita, our room has the most comfortable bed and pillows, everything is lovely, they give you a wifi password, and we have not had a problem using this anywhere at the hotel! When we arrived, we decided to come up and sit by the pool and have some drinks and nibbles, while the menu doesn't have nibbles on it, the management and staff are so accommodating that I am sure if you asked for a cheese platter etc, they would make sure that it happened. We decided to share some coconut shrimp with curry dipping sauce. So good, I ordered it for my main last night! Then tried to order it for a nibble this afternoon when we returned but alas they changed the menu! Currently sitting in the bar area, having calamari with the best ever salad and a glass of chardonnay, typing and looking out at the view...can life get any better?? I had the octopus for my entree last night and it was good but it would have been better to see larger pieces, still I thoroughly enjoyed it! My husband had the grilled fish for his main and said it was delicious. We both had the American breakfast (as that is also what us Aussies would eat) I would have liked to see 4 rashers of bacon as they aren't big like Aussie bacon, but the breakfast was great. Coffee hot if somewhat stronger than I am used to! On another note, it was great to know that if we didn't drink all of the wine, that we could just come back in the evening or the next day and they had the wine that you had already started, cold and ready! Your car is washed as a curtesy before you leave, ours was actually washed before our day trip today and will be again tomorrow. I can't fault this wonderful hotel! All the staff are excellent and friendly, the food fantastic, the rooms lovely and clean, everything works, the views....if I could pick something, it would be that it would be nice to see some finger food to have with drinks. But we will return! I have 7 months more in this country and am thinking this would be a great place to come back to before I leave. Good Job Management and Staff and I still have one night and morning to go!

Pros:
Views from the pool
Public areas

Cons:
-Overpriced (we paid around $400 which left us feeling totally ripped off. If one if paying around $200-250 it's fine)

rooms: Small, cramped rooms. Website and most other marketing shows images of the suite but the rooms are rundown, dingy, cramped, partial ocean views. Bathroom was minuscule and dirty.

Service: staff is sweet but do not speak English. In the event of an issue this is unacceptable for a hotel that markets itself in the luxury boutique sector. Only the GM, who isn't always on site, speaks English. Overall service is well intentioned but sloppy which points to poor management and training.

Beaches: beaches are unfortunately dirty and ridden with trash. Sad because the water is gorgeous.

We have been to this hotel several times and loved it I am going to list all the different aspects we enjoyed on our most resent visit:

Hotel

The rooms are a great size featuring a wonderful "with nature" feel. Only complaint is I wish there was a bathtub.

Spa

We enjoyed 4 different treatments 1 exfoliation 2 massages and one fabulous steam bath. Every experience was great. The staff are skilled and extremely friendly plus it doesn't hurt to be massaged beside a beautiful river in a rain forest.

Zip Lining (canopy tour)

We have done this tour twice and the thing that separates this tour is that it is kid friendly I have a 7 year old and a 4 year old and they were both excepted on this attraction and let me tell you they loved it. The guides We very friendly and helpful often going ahead of us so they could video us or take pictures for us with our camera. We felt totally safe and taken care of.

Restaurant

We truly enjoyed the food here favorites are the steak fajita or goat Cheese salad at lunch or the coconut shrimp for dinner. The only improvement that could be done is that because there is really no where else to eat close by a larger menu would be great after 5 days you kind of feel you have tried every thing on the menu.

The highlights of this hotel as Location, Staff and the view is amazing... breathtaking really looking out over the never ending sea yet feeling like you could touch it is a fabulous feeling. We will be back yet again.

I spent a week at Casa Bonita and had an incredible time. My boyfriend and I rented a car and drove from Santa Domingo (if you do this, make sure you have a good map--they're hard to come by en route to Barahona and printouts from google maps may not indicate road closures, etc.). Casa Bonita is the perfect combination of attentive guest services, laid back feel, beautiful weather, and the option to explore. If you start to get restless sitting by the pool or want to try something new, there are some low-key options for food outside of the hotel. We walked down the beach to Luz Restaurant one night for lobster and fish and had lunch at San Rafael beach (driving distance) one day. Some guide books make Bahia de las Aguilas seem borderline inaccessible, but the hotel will shuttle you there with packed lunches (you can also get lunch there if you're in the mood for local seafood dishes). We drove to Bahia de las Aguilas, a really beautiful route (again, make sure you have a map and four-wheel drive wouldn't hurt). The staff was great, especially Fidel, Omar, Yeuris, Olga, and the manager, who offered me his personal cell phone to call the US when my card wouldn't work. If you're the kind of person who struggles with getting into relaxation mode, this is probably the best place. Turn off your phone, leave the internet alone, and read a paperback by the pool with a rum-filled coconut. It's worth the trip.

Casa Bonita is the place to be if one wants to spend some secluded holidays in the nature.
The hotel has the outmost privacy and one can decide to relax and lay down on the pool in the sun or be active and take part in many activities as Casa Bonita also counts with many onsite activities like horse riding, zip-line, tennis court, mountain bike tours (bikes are lent foc), great Spa, etc.

We spent a wonderful week in Casa Bonita where we notice the special attention from the whole team.

The Manager, Roberto Nolazco ensured that we were at all times happy and felt "at Home". He even hired a driver who took us around and explained many things from the area, better than a tour guide could have done.

We also went on a guided tour to Bahía de las Águilas and right before we left, Fidel was waiting for us to give us a basket with loved-made sandwiches and beverages... just like at home!

The whole week was only about being spoiled...we ate so much and so good, we drunk the best cocktails and enjoyed every bit we were served and given because it was served with a smile and professionalism and the best of taste.

Our room had a fantastic view... that breathtaking view to the mountains and the see we really miss...

Definitely, if we are to go back to Barahona, it has to be to Bahoruco, it has to be to Casa Bonita.
