If you have a reason to visit Barahona then I would thoroughly recommend this hotel where my husband and I stayed for six nights. The town itself doesn't have much to offer but the Hotel Loro Tuerto is a lovely, tranquil oasis. The rooms are basic but clean and they all overlook a very attractive courtyard where you can sit and relax and eat breakfast. The staff are very willing, helpful and friendly although typically Dominican in that you have to accept that everything happens quite slowly! The only negative on the comfort was our bed which was extremely hard but otherwise, the room was fine. One really big plus point is that although there are power cuts for several hours every day in the Dominican Republic, the power at the hotel didn't go off once so we assume they must have their own generator. This means that we were able to run the air conditioning throughout the night and always had lights. If you arrive by car then you can park in the street outside and the hotel is located right in the centre of the town.
