“nice and clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

In our visit to Chiapas, our first destination was Tuxtla Gutierrez.
We stood for one night at the Hotel del Carmen, wich is a nice, clean and proper hotel.
Located a few streets from the plaza.
The breakfast was good and the service correct and friendly.

Brakfst starting at 7? Not! Maybe 8 or later. We had a tour pickup booked for 7:30 -finally had a cup of coffee and piece of toast by 7:45.good thing driver was willing to wait. When I complained and told them we have an american breakfast included in the rate and are running late for the tour they just looked blank "so what" kind of thing. 2 of us in the room - one towel, 1 bottle of water. Asked for more - they are out of both will bring it later, asked again couple of hours later got water no towell yet. The next day we got for breakfast at 9 .,coffee was not ready and so on it took us an hour to finally have breakfast. Staff clearly does not know what to do.
I will not reccommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Do not stay in this hotel

I am from ohio, (USA)
Stayed here for three night, located in the heart of downtown where everything is close by and walkable distance, breakfast is included and it was best pricing.
Good service very clean, very comfortable beds.

Stayed here last night, meant to say 2 but moved to Best Western for a few more dollars ........... so glad we did !!! Rooms were tiny & stuffy, very hard concrete beds with sub standard mattresses air con very noisey but the worst thing was the noise of the water pump in the courtyard right next to the rooms. Apparently they have to pump the water up to the next two floors from the ground floor !!! Why not get an in ground pump thats quieter ..... not rocket science. Breakfast was terrible, bread had been out uncovered for hours, so dried up & hard. The breakfast staff started setting up early, very noisely, the bain marie Mexican options were there too long for health reasons & a lady stood flicking a napkin to keep the flys away. No air con in the breakfast area & the overhead fans would not work. Very unpleasant stay & would not recommend this hotel to anybody

Room Tip: stay away !!!

The hotel is near city centre and clean while having quiet neighbours, but its design seems to be the reason that makes it noisy. We arrived at around 6am after taking a night bus so all we wanted was to have hot shower and good sleep. We were arranged to stay in a room on ground floor but we heard staff steps clearly while they were walking and talking. The church bell nearby was so disturbing that we were woken up. Later on we asked to move to a room on second floor but there was not much improvement. The hotel is housed in a long and rectangular Spanish house with an enclosed courtyard. Most windows of rooms face the courtyard and corridors. Breakfast included was poor. Unlike most of other restaurants we visited in Mexico, orange juice was not fresh. Yet it did have a big advantage as it provided free distilled water with taps that we could choose cold or hot water when in-room tea-making facilities are rare in Mexico. It was thus very convenient because it was self help. We could make tea easily.

We picked this hotel for a one night stay in Tuxtla before our early flight the next morning.
The hotel has a nice cafe. The rooms are basic but very clean. Ask for a first floor room if you are loaded with luggage. Staff is very helpful. Hotel is about 3 blocks from the main square.

Friendly and playful hotelito about $40 usd for a modern double, secure parking, non touristy restaurants within 2-3 blocks, try the "tamales de hierba santa" at the Marimba Park down the street evenings/nights corner of the OXXO, kitty-corner of the best espresso place, enjoy an otherwise congested and drab city.

Room Tip: rooms named after Mexican States, small but modern and good deal for 1 night
