“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

This is a new hotel (our estimate is 1 year old) in a great location, about 500m south of the golden triangle monument. Amazing views from the restaurant patio and pool deck. Nice contemporary style interiors and good quality furnishing. Rooms are reasonable size and have good quality furniture, good beds. Bedding and bathrooms were clean. Restaurant offers extensive menu and was able to accommodate our special dietary concerns. The breakfast (included) was great, lots of choices. Staff was very friendly and responsive. Overall a great place, we would highly recommend it for short stays in this area. The only possible negative we can raise is that the AC in the room seemed a bit noisy when cycling on. This woke us up a couple of time. Perhaps it is isolated to the room we were in.

Room Tip: Unless you plan to spend a lot of time in your room, don`t bother paying the premium for the rivervi...

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights while travelling up the north of Thailand. Have to say it’s a real gem. We stayed in a few hotels in Thailand but this one is far the best. We were upgraded to a bigger room with a river view for very little charge. The staff was very helpful and always smiling even without wanting a tip. Breakfast was very good and dinner very enjoyable sitting outside looking over the river, service is very good with a personal touch which we were missing in other places we stayed. The food is also excellent. We would highly recommend this hotel.

After travelling to the area often for the past few years, there aren't any hotels that are affordable and comfortable. The location is great - very peaceful and the rooms are perfectly clean and very comfortable. On top of that, the service may be the best I've ever experienced in Thailand. Usually, there's no use in asking for anything that's not already provided, but the staff at the Serene go far above what I expected. The breakfast buffet is amazing and provides both Western and Asian options - way better than the awful 'American breakfast' provided by other hotels. Even though I like to get a taste of local restaurants wherever I go when I travel, I loved the food at the hotel's restaurant so much that I ate there every night. The restaurant's selection is amazing and the Italian food is not only edible (which is rare in rural Thailand) but delicious! I can't recommend this hotel enough for anyone travelling for business or for pleasure.

Room Tip: The rooms on the riverside are really enjoyable with a cup of coffee in the morning.

Fabulous service, excellent breakfast choices with great coffee and real hot milk! (a nice change from the tinned condensed milk!) the town is very small but great for one night to see the Golden Triangle and a few temples. About a 2 hr journey to Chiang Kong to cross the boarder into Laos.

Stayed 3 nights in a Suite last month- we were in the area in order to see the Golden Triangle (having been to Chiang Mai some years ago) and also to do the Mahout Training at the Anantara Elephant Camp. We opted to stay at Serene as its 5 minutes down the road and the rates are a fraction of those charged by Anantara (which is normally the sort of place that I would stay but as the Elephant experience was available to non-residents it made great sense to do this) and to be honest its really good. Yes its a little quirky but all the staff go out of their way to make you welcome and give you good service. The rooms are really modern and well equipped- our suite had everything you could want along with the great views of the river and Laos/Burma beyond. Many thanks to Ginny and all her staff. PS The Elephant Camp day is pricey but worth every penny as a unique opportunity to work and play up close with amazing elephants and their mahouts.
