There is no better value in the Golden Triangle. The hotel is elegantly simple and located right on the Mekong with fantastic views of Myanmar and Laos. This hotel is the first I saw on my way down the Mekong from China a few years back and I decided immediately to stay here once we made port in Chiang Saen. I am so glad I did. Each time I return there is always some new, delightful touch and Khun Ginnie and her staff go out of their way to make sure the guests are well looked after. The food is good and reasonably priced, whether Thai or western. If you're looking for nightlife, this isn't your kind of town or hotel, but it is perfect for those wanting a quiet getaway and beautiful scenery, with the border town of Mae Sai a short (and lovely) half hour drive away and the wonderfully simpleworking town of Chiang Saen just five minutes downriver by car. . Or just sit by the pool and watch the river traffic while relaxing with a good book. The rooms are modern, spacious and well maintained, the wifi is good (and free) and breakfast is included with the room. The Opium Museum, a lovely hilltop temple and a few local restaurants are all within easy walking distance of the hotel. All this, at a fraction of the price of the Anantara or the aging and fading Imperial. And if this is a little TOO serene for some members of your party, there's a casino not far away on the Lao side of the river (and another across the way in Myanmar). Best of all, it's less than an hour from the airport in Chiang Rai. Make sure to get a riverview room and enjoy watching the sun rise on the Lao side of the river. Then cap off a day of exploring with a cold beer on the terrace while watching the sunset. What's not to like?
