“Good experience in Bagan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in July 10 and it has been a good experience in staying this holiday. Originally I booked the Thande Hotel one month before my holiday, however, I received an email from this hotel 4 days before my departure, telling me that their swimming pool will be temporarily closed for renovation. Then all in a hurry, I booked the Thiripyitsaya hotel with the recommendation from the Yangon agency and it only cost US$100 per night for 3 persons in a Deluxe Room with Garden View (but I can see the river too from the balcony). Actually it is cheaper to get book via the agency by internet.

Overall, the service is good, staff are very friendly and nice, pool is good for adult coz I don't think they will change the water so frequent. Room is spacious and clean, quiet and good for a relaxing holiday. Staff can speak pretty good English and no problem in communication. Breakfast is fine. Be ready to get power off in the middle of night (very common across Myanmar) but they have the generator and so it will take around 15 mins for the air-conditioning to restart.

The location is not close to restaurant but close to the site. Actually, in Bagan, lots of people ride on bike or horse cart and it takes around 25 mins to the town centre. Yet it is a wonderful ride if you start after 3:00pm to escape from heat. The hotel charged me $5 per half day/ $8 per day (till late night) per bike (condition is ok according to Myanmar standard).

Room Tip: Deluxe Garden view still has some river view.

The hotel is located in Old Bagan, meaning that you are very close to the main Pagodas to visit, but there is no city around you can walk or buy anything. As you need to move around visiting the pagodas by car or horsecart it´s not that important except during evenings.
On the other side, I passed through New Bagan and it does not seem to have to many things for tourists either, I wouldn´t stay in New Bagan

The best part of the location is that it is on the river, with great views from the restaurant and pool, It´s a very nice hotel with a great garden and a big and good pool to relax during the midday or in the evening. Water is slightly moldy however
The restaurant has a good breakfast buffet and some variety for dinner with a great atmosphere in the evening. Dinners here are probably the highlight of the hotel,
It has WIFI in reception but nowhere else

The weak point it has are the rooms, they are big and clean with proper A/C, but with very basic furniture and small and worn bathroom. So comfortable but maybe not up to the rest of the hotel image.
Each cottage has two rooms, one river view, one garden view depending on where the door and windows faces, but I don´t think it´s worthy the upgrade. Rooms are almost the same.

Staff is very friendly, always smiling and attentive. Just be aware that if you hire the horsecart or guide through the hotel they will charge you significantly more than if you do on your own in the airport or walking just out of the hotel to go the horsecart "parking"

I would recommend it and probably come back

The first day of our trip to Myanmar -- the drive through Yangon -- disappointed us. Then we came to stunning Bagan and the beautiful Thiripyitsaya Resort, and our hopes for a wonderful vacation came true. Our family loved the views, architecture, location, pool, gardens and spa of this resort. The service was excellent and the rooms were lovely. The restaurant was too pricey, but typical for a luxury resort. I am surprised the Thiripyitsaya is not rated the #1 resort in Bagan.

I do not think the last review was written by someone who stayed here. I experienced very clean rooms, very nice showers, (I never drink tap water anywhere anyway) the pool was very clean and a pleasant temperature. The room was perfectly air conditioned. Not a single spider! Great sunset views over the river. Very friendly staff. Beautiful grounds. Plus Bagan is an amazing place to visit. I highly recommend staying here.

8 of us booked 4 deluxe rooms and all 4 rooms were disapointing. Spider web at corners, sticky floor, moldy bathrooms and weak air-conditioning.
worst of all, the water from tap is yellow and smell bad; we found out from local staffs that the tap water in the hotel is directly from the Irrawaddy River. we went out to buy cartons of water for face washing and teeth brushing.
the restaurant in the hotel is set by the river, beautiful view but food isnt very clean. houseflies were eating faster and more than us! each meal per person is about US$10 - 15. the swimming pool looks very inviting but very dirty water. we saw many small living insects in the water. i had rashes all over my body after the short swim. i dont know any other hotel in this city but would not recommend this hotel.

This hotel was well managed, friendly and comfortable and a good base to explore the magical 4000 temples on the surrounding plains of Bagan. The rooms which are situated in separate "bungalows" are spacious and functional. The air-conditioning in the room, was welcome as the outside temperature was 40 C.
The hotel has expansive dining facilities, spa and a large swimming pool which was a huge relief from the incredible heat of the day.

Have had two short stays here overlooking the might Irrawaddy River. The Resort is set in sprawling gardens and the accommodation is bungalow style. It is hot in Bagan so you need a good place to cool off and the gardens and pool area here are sensational. The brekky on the deck with the gardens and river view also is a delight to wake up to. Rooms are comfortable, staff always smiling, brekky typical of the hotels and the location is a short horse and buggy ride to the temples.

Room Tip: no tips as the rooms are all much of a muchness
