“Good value for mid-range hotel close to town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

This hotel is a good mid-range hotel with a great location for access to restaurants. This was my third trip to Bagan and I'd previously stayed in Old Bagan and this time I decided to stay in Nyaung U because the hotels were cheaper and to have access to restaurants. While Old Bagan is close to the temples, it's far from any amenities. This hotel is a 10 minute walk to restaurant row and 10 minutes to the airport. The grounds are nice, the pool was cold but refreshing after a day in the hot sun. The breakfast buffet is pretty standard and the breakfast room was not air conditioned and a bit sweltering. I enjoyed my time here and it would be my first choice for a reasonably priced, mid-range hotel in the future that's close to restaurants, etc.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you have enjoyed your stay with us. We do apologize for your inconvenience caused at our restaurant. The staff might have been delayed in turning the air condition on. We will make sure it will not happen to the next guests. I'm happy to hear your say , and we promise to keep as the best mid range hotel in Nyaung U.
Once again, Thank you very much for staying with us and hoping you could visit us again in the near future.

yours sincerely
Ms.Khine

When searching for lodging in Bagan, we got to choose between Nyaung U (most info use U instead of Oo), old Bagan (middle of the temples/pagoda), and new Bagan. I'm glad that we chose Thante in Nyaung U at the end, because we went to new Bagan on our first night and it was really quiet and nothing much to do. Old Bagan is nice if you stay at expensive resort otherwise it might be difficult to find a place for dinner as the restaurants spread out in the area. Thante at Nyaung U is the first I found and proved to be a great choice. They are responsive with email, and the only hotel in Myanmar that provided an e-vochure as an official confirmation. Room is in bungalow style that guarantees privacy. 10-min drive from the airport, within walking distance (20 mins is acceptable for us) to the restaurant street and local market. Nice pool, great breakfast with live traditional Burmese music, and life-saving homemade ice-cream upon check-in (and it's only 500K if you want more). Plus, there is a beer garden on the side that offers cheap draft Myanmar beer. Wifi is only available in public area (including the beer garden) but I was glad to be disconnected for a few days. Staff in general is helpful and speak English. We were lucky to meet Myat Min who helped us with everything and made our stay in Bagan a wonderful experience. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who opts to stay at Nyaung U.

Room Tip: room near the restaurant could be noisy as they start serving breakfast besides the pool at 6:30am

The hotel is situated in perfect place for sightseeing around Bagan. All staff are friendly. The food is good, I did not bother to find any foods outside the hotel as they have selection good foods. The swimming pool is great place to cool down after hot day sightseeing in Bagan. The internet is o.k although you can only use in public place. It's better to skip their breafast but order brunch /lunch as the breakfast is a bit basic. They gave us a free complimentary dropp off to Airport, which is a good service. Over all I enjoyed staying there.

First of all, the rooms were all renewed. So the old comments of dirty bathroom and unclean swimming pool are not valid anymore.

The rooms are big, in bungalows build around the clean swimming pool. The bathroom was brand new and very clean.
The swimming pool is becoming cold at this season, but still was welcome after a tour in the temple. I can only imagine how great it should be during the summer season!
Restaurant is as described in other comment: you do not want to stay there longer than the time needed... They should just put some music in the background to make some ambiance in it..

For the location, it is obviously not in old bagan. But you have plenty of possibilities just outside the hotel: Horsecar (2-3 pax, 15-20 USD/Day), Electrical bicycle (sort of electric motorbike - 1pax +1 child 8USD/Day), Bicycle (2USD/day), or taxi (4 pax - 45-50 USD/Day)

Nice bungalow type rooms surrounding swimming pool which is a welcome relief after a hot and dusty days cycling around the temples. Breakfast is good, got my poached eggs to order. I always go to 'restaurant row' ( a street near the other end of village but walkable, full of restaurants and gift shops) in the evening for dinner as it has a lovely atmosphere with good priced food. Hotel is quiet so you can sit and read around the pool or on your individual room terrace. Close to market. I always stay in Nyaung Oo as it's the local village with more life and character than old or new Bagan. Prices at around 55 dollars are quite steep for Asia in my opinion but if you are at the end of your back packing trip and want a bit of luxury then the pool is a welcome relief.

Tastefully landscaped place with bungalows surrounding a well-maintained pool - particularly appreciated as Bagan was incredibly hot, with no breezes, when we visited mid-October. Good location and they rent decent bicycles to see the surrounding sights. Great buffet-style breakfast in their restaurant. Bakery next door - looks super-hygienic, but not really any western-style breakfast pastries to speak of. Friendly staff. Nice stay.

Spacious rooms with spacious bathrooms surrounding a nice pool (and eveything was clean - maybe they'd responded to some previous reviews). Good staff, lots of services, fairly good breakfast, wifi usually good (it's restricted to the lobby but you can usually get reception near the pool and in the pub). Complex includes an OK bakery/cafe and a basic pub with cheap meals. On the edge of Nyaung U - 10 minutes walk to major restaurants (cheap local ones are close by though) but fine for bicycle or other access to the temples. Good price by current Myanmar standards.
