We recently stayed here in the hottest of all seasons, with the average daily temperature of 105+ degrees. We had a room close to reception, which was fine because there weren't any other guests that we saw until the last night. I would imagine during high season that being close to reception would be loud due to groups and the restaurant. The rooms have recently been "upgraded" and they are still doing work (painting and maintenance) to modernize the hotel. I say "upgraded" loosely because it's all superficial work. The rooms are huge, but the bed in ours was quite small for such a large space. In addition, the bed is on a platform that looks modern and sturdy--however, it was really flimsy and the mattress support wasn't cut properly and the mattress was sinking to the floor (we had to adjust it). Also, the bathroom has a new and clean modern look, but the bathtub wasn't sturdy because a leg was missing on the bottom. However, the biggest issue is that the wall AC cannot cool the large rooms. So, if you need very cool rooms and you are there during high season, I would look elsewhere to stay. They could have improved this by placing the AC closer to the bed so that when you are in it, at least at night you are cool. Nonetheless, the room was comfortable. There is a nice pool, which we didn't use as it was in the hot sun all day. The restaurant has a nice staff, although, it is expensive. If you go up and around towards the water, you will find some other local restaurants that will be cheaper, but not as nice. Also, the restaurant is outside and doesn't have adequate fans for hot season, but management could easily remedy this. Finally, the front desk staff is very very nice and wi-fi works very well in the lobby and restaurant. We could not access our email from their computers, but we could from our laptops in the restaurant. We would recommend this hotel as it served our needs and was comfortable and calm for resting after hot periods at the temples. Finally, it looks like they are constructing a restaurant to have views of the river so that more guests can enjoy those views as they are limited to villas and the 2nd floor rooms in some of the compound.
Ask for a 2nd floor room in the compound to get river view and small deck. Our agent did this for us...
