“Basic rooms but great nights sleep, fantastic hosts and perfect tour of Bagan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

We stayed here for 2 nights. At first our room seemed a bit dark and run down but we had really comfy beds & the most reliable, decent pressured and hot shower of all our time in Asia. The rooms were quiet and the air con was great. Good nights sleep both nights. The breakfast is fab - really sorted us out for the day and you can eat it on the balcony of your room so nice and relaxing. The hosts were FANTASTIC, we really had a great stay and felt looked after. Best of all was the day tour of Bagan that they offer which covers all the temples you need to see, the local village and all in a reliable aircon vehicle. We also got to watch the sunset from one of the temples which was really special - we were the only people there. We were sad to leave.

Stumbled across this place by the few but good reviews here on Trip Advisor. Ended up finding it on Agoda for a decent 'Myanmar' price. The owner also told us that the price on Agoda is what he would charge for a walk in too. Seems having a local Agoda office helps the hotels out quite a bit when it comes to bookings.

We were welcomed for our early check in (5am) with smiles and breakfast and were shown to the family room and we'd have to move the following day as they were full.... which was no trouble.

The owner is super friendly as has a lot of knowledge of the area. He showed us which pagodas to visit and explained a little bit of the history of them too which was great.

Rooms were simple and basic but comfortable (especially the pillows) there is still a little bit of work to do since they have taken over but everything was clean. By the time you reach Bagan you've probably realized that what you pay $30+ per night here in Myanmar could get you two nights in places like Cambodia and Vietnam. So it's best just to suck it up and enjoy the friendly service that you don't always get in other parts of Asia.

The little terrace areas were quite cute, looking out to a fish pond that extended from the road to the check in area. Breakfast was served on your terrace as you got up and requested it. The breakfast were Burmese options which was a nice change from eggs and toast and they were a little different each day. You get a pot of hot water and your coffee or tea sachets. It was nice in the late afternoon to sit out here and enjoy a cold beer after a full on day of cycling the area.

Hotel is nice and close to restaurants in New Bagan and also a lot of the main temples.

Everything was fine with this hotel, there was a little miss communication regarding a trip to Mt Popa, I had said that we would be keen to go along (and offered to pay) before any other guests had. At that stage the owner said that the trip wasn't going ahead due to lack of numbers. Got up the next morning for breakfast and three couples were waiting to go on the trip! Apparently we didn't re-confirm?!?! It was a bit disappointing that were weren't asked again - even as we had conversations with several staff members that evening..... But as I said, miss communication I'm sure.

Room Tip: If you're in a twin room, sleep at the opposite end of the bed to benefit from the A/C :)

Great location in New Bagan, quiet street but easy walking distance from all the restaurants, etc. Rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable. Staff is fantastic, they do a great one-day tour of the temples. When the buses to Inle Lake were unexpectedly sold out, they went above and beyond in arranging a ride for us. The shady courtyard with its babbling fountain makes a great place to hang out during the hottest part of the day. Complimentary breakfast was unique and very fine. The 'sky beer' tour made for an unforgetable experience.

Fantastic place to stay in new bagan.
Close to the main temples, it is a short ride/taxi

The lovely couple who took over this business decided to withhold professional careers to come back to the country they love. They speak very good business level English.

They offer a well thought out tour of the temples that does not leave you with temple burnout and in a nice aircon car.

For the more adventurous, mentally and stomach wise. Enquire about the 'sky-beer' and if it is possible on the day.

instead of clambering for a square of concrete on the top of the pagoda and paying extra to the govt for the pleasure. Best tip is to organise a sunset tour on the Irrawaddy.

A secret tip is to go for a sunset out on the water- 'banana island'. We were the only boat out there and it was the best sunset of our trip to date.

One thing to note, is the breakfast was not that fabulous, but there is a lot of food around if you are still hungry.

I spent a few days in the Mya Thida Hotel and really enjoyed my stay. The hotel is located in a quiet area of New Bagan and still close to the shops, restaurants and a short bicycle ride from some of the temples. The owners were very friendly, caring and helpful. My room was clean and spacious and the shower had hot water. What I really enjoyed, was that each room had it's own terrace facing a small courtyard. Compared to some other places I stayed in Myanmar, the Mya Thida Hotel offers very good value for it's price.
