“don't miss this is wonderful”

we took so many pictures and all of them are simply wonderful, this is a great trip, the truck to go there is nice and the team is super, the ballon is comfortable and very safety but don't except a lot of room, but the tour is purely amazing and one of the best we have dome in the world.

“Overbooked so all we could do was watch”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

We booked our Myanmar tour months in advance and this was to be a highlight. Unfortunately a cock-up by the otherwise impeccable Trails of Indochine meant our booking was never actually made and we turned up the day before the event only to have BoB DK our booking.

In the end we climbed the Sulamani Guphay temple before dawn and watched the sunrise as the balloons wafted silently by (bar the characteristic 'whoof' of the burners). I have to sat this was a really good experience and the view of the balloons might have been as good as the view from them, not to mention it felt good to be over $1200 richer thanks to the mistake. Not BoB's fault of course, and all's well that ends well, but the moment of finding out the error was probably our worst in Myanmar and we do still wish BoB could have somehow accommodated us.

“Should not be missed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

This is an excellent way to see the expanse of the temples in Bagan. I went on the morning sunrise flight, and it was breathtaking. The flight includes a before-dawn pickup at your hotel in retro, wood-sided buses. We were taken to the site, given coffee or tea, and a safety briefing, and then watched them fill the balloons. I was on a balloon that that held 12 people. Other balloons held 20. I think the fewer people was much nicer.

The pilots are trained in the UK. My pilot had been flying balloons for 17 years and I think he said 10 years in Burma. I felt well-cared for and safe throughout the flight. We had the gentlest landing you can imagine.

After the flight we had champagne and cakes, and an opportunity to buy a photo CD of our flight. There's a camera mounted on the balloon which snaps a few photos in flight. We were then returned to our hotels by the same buses.

If you're in Bagan, you should not miss this.

“Difficult to justify the price but the experience is enjoyable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

I thought about Balloons over Bagan a lot when planning our trip to Burma.

The photos looked excellent but the price was astronomical. $330 for the 'premium' flight (smaller basket, a photo CD and a 'certificate. Prices are far higher than similar rides around the world including first world countries (e.g. $270/head for balloon ride over London).

We flew at the end of Feb - towards the end of the 'season' and with the heat rapidly advancing. The pick up in a restored Buick van is fun until you realise the lack of suspension. Surely with revenue of $20,000+ per day the company could have paid to improve the suspension.

Bagan gets VERY DUSTY as you go into the hot season. The 'mist' you see wafting between pagodas in photos is actually a mixture of smoke and dust. If flying in Feb don't expect crystal clear views that you see in the photos. Temple views were hazy and winds were high and actually blew us the 'wrong way' away from the temples.

Our balloon pilot waved to children as we flew and shouted 'mingalaba' as he threw down bananas. Sort of a let them eat cake Marie-Antoinette moment. Nice.

The flight finished with a glass of prosecco rather than champagne.

And then the bumpy ride back to the hotel.

So overall: expensive, bumpy, hazy views in you go in Feb.

“Breathtaking Bagan and what a way to see it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

This was by far the best thing we did in Myanmar, woke up just before the crack of dawn, picked up at our hotel and driven to the take off site,a quick instruction and then we were off, yes it is a lot of money but worth every cent of it, sunrise was amazing and the photo opportunities were just magical. We picked the premier balloon with less people and champaign or juice at the end it was just magical, hundreds of photo's were taken it was an experience that we will never forget. Scrape up every cent you can find and just do it before Bagan is over run with tourists. All we can say is it is mind blowing and totally amazing.
