“clean and basic acomodation at excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2014

i booked 1bhk hut online.hut was nice clean and cosy.best part is mostly all huts r not too far from gondola and you can just walk in through.huts r safe but u must cary torch and snacks etc.kitchen is provided you can also cook if don't want to eat from restaurants.Hot water was available.gulmarg has very limited good hotels and resturants.all in all if u want good acomodation u have to shell out above 6000Rs/day in season.now when u compare this with jktdc huts u find jktdc huts r available at fairly good rates.

Room Tip: 1 bhk huts r good

Location of the hut 505 is awesome..we were very happy with our decision.however u cannot expect a friendly service and if u want service be prepared to tip (bakshish) everytime u want a service.Tip is expected even when no service given.Food @golf club is the best. Most of the attractions ((sledge, mule ride, skiing) are overrated and these guys are trained to emotionally stress if u say NO.Above all these guys too expect TIP apart from their overrated service. The guide we hired was the only decent man we met.

When we checked in JKTDC Huts it felt like heaven, what a view of snow and Gulmarg, it was best my eyes could see. but when we order dinner from local restaurant it was very costly and still no taste and standard.

Close to gondola, stayed in deluxe suite, room was big with a separate drawing room. There were blanket heaters provided. The tv had limited channels. You must have a car standby if u plan to stay there as the restaurant in the club is quite a distance away. The food in the restaurant was good value for money

We stayed in 3 BHK huts and it was near the Gandola . The hut was new and had an attic room which was very unique. The dining and sitting room had a fire place which was also unique. The caretaker arranges for wood . This keeps the room warm and nice. The caretaker was very helpful and provided all raw materials to cook food in the kitchen which was well equipped and had gas aslo. All rooms had electric blankets, blowers and working geysers in toilets. Gulmarg does not have many staying options and JKTDC hutsare located in hills and some amidst the golf course. Overall a nice , cosy experience.

Room Tip: Take Near Gandola to avoid walking long. The Gandola tickets are big pain, the agents charge 600 and...

We were two families (4 adults and 3 kids). Travelled in the month of May 2014 and stayed in the JKTDC huts.

Location and Accommodation : The location is superb and the huts are quite spacious. It being JKTDC owned property you can be assured of excellent view and the best possible locations.Located at a stones throw from the famous Gulmarg Gondola.

These deluxe huts comes with a living / dining room (has a sofa , dining table , tv etc) , bedroom which is quite spacious (with a double bed, wardrobe) , attached bath (with provision for hot / cold water - geyser attached). The huts are well furnished and you have floor carpet, thus ensuring less of discomfort. Room heaters and electric blankets were provided to us as it was extremely cold even in May, and there was snow all around.

The huts are at a walkable distance from the Gondola ( which is the main attraction in Gulmarg). This is really helpful because specially when you return from the Gondola, the last thing you want is to bargain and get hassled by the pony wallas.

Booking and how to reach : You need to do the booking online through their website. It's advisable that you book in advance and do not take the risk of trying your luck after reaching Gulmarg. These huts are in great demand and the chances that you may not get a spot booking is quite high if you reach during the season time. Once you do the booking there is a reservation slip / receipt generated , you need to carry that along with a valid photo id.

Important point to note here is upon reaching Gulmarg, you need to go straight to the JKTDC office, show the reservation receipt and there the hut numbers are assigned. If you reach the huts directly, you will be asked to return to the office (approx 1 kms from there or so) for entry formalities and for hut number allocation.

Please note that if you have an overnight stay booking at Gulmarg, there is no need for you to take a pony for reaching the hotel, unless you wish to. You will come across pony wallas telling you that outside vehicles are not allowed etc. Please note that it is not applicable when you have a night stay booked and you are going towards the hotel. Once you reach the hotel , and if you wish to roam around in the city, you will either need to walk or take a pony.

I have stayed in other properties at Gulmarg, and hence can say that @4000/- per night, the type of facilities and location which they provide, is possibly the best deal one can ask for.

Food and cooking : The huts are also equipped with a functional kitchen with a gas connection and some basic utensils / cutlery too. You can easily make breakfast / maggie / tea / coffee etc. should you wish. The caretaker would charge you 150/- additional for the gas if you wish to cook , and if its only tea/ coffee / maggie, then its complementary. Its strongly recommended that one checks the gas regulator and the pipe before using, because in both the huts which we were assigned, the LPG was leaking constantly.

The local market which is hardly a km from the huts, has a couple of shops where you can get food (dhaba types). We used our own vehicle to go there. There are a few provisional stores also which will sell you everything , right from maggie packets to wafers, cold drinks to juice and basic grocery items, that too at MRP. Should you wish to cook, it comes handy. The caretaker at the hut will also offer to get food for you, but please note that it has a heavy premium attached (the rates are inflated by almost 50% and it's the same food which you will get in the market)

Areas of Improvement : The huts being a government property, maintenance is compromised to some extent. There were un-cleaned dustbins and rats / rodents inside the rooms too. The Geyser also had a mind of its own and would heat the water when it wanted :-). When complained about LPG leakage, the attitude was quite casual and we were told not to pay attention to it !!

The double cot in the bedrooms has two single mattress in them, placed side by side with approx 1 to 1.5 inch gap between them. Families travelling with small kids may find it uncomfortable.

Room Tip: All the cottages are good and located close to each other. Try the one which are relatively closer t...

It was rainy and cold couple of days that we spent in Gulmarg and I can tell you that the JKTDC hut proved to be the best place to stay in Gulmarg. Couple of distinct advantages:
1) The location is great.. Probably government chose the best location for itself. Close to the cable-car (Gulmarg Gondola) station and in the lap of nature, flanked by hills on one side and the meadows on the other
2) The staff is well trained and courteous. The service is great.. Food was good and the facilities in the hut were also nice.

Also, the bathrooms were clean and had running hot water.. The rooms were cozy with room heater and electric blankets. Slightly overpriced at Rs 4000... I think the location demands the premium, but not the facility.

Overall decent experience and great holiday !
