“Beautiful Riad for chilling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2010

For anyone looking to take a few nights away from Tunis to relax, this is a great place in which to do so. I stayed with my wife and 2 small kids, taking 2 rooms across a small inner courtyard from each other. Sabri, the owner, had gone out of his way to buy baby monitors that allowed my wife and I to have dinner away from the kids in the evening (cooked by a local lady, the food was fantastic Tunis home cooking) and did everything to make our stay great....from selecting music, to local tips to cooking lessons. The town has an interesting market and is near some sights, but the hotel is the real star and all the family felt incredibly relaxed there. The hotel is intimate and Sabri made us feel very at home, the personal touch making a big difference to our stay. I find it very easy to recommend this place.

Still on our bleisure (combi business/ leisure) trip in Tunisia and chose to stay in a dar on our way south - we didn't regret it !

If you're into big resort like hotels with terrible and unpersonal service and 200 of the same rooms than you will not feel comfortable here.
However if you like to receive a warm and hearthy welcome, stay in a beautiful dar which combines contemporary and traditional elements this is your place.

Arrival in the dar: once you arrive at the main entrance of the old medina it's best to call the dar for pick up (it can not be reached by car and it's hard to find the 1st time).
We were welcomed by the lovely miss Raya who provided info on Nabeul on the way.

In the dar we were served really delicious traditional pastry and mint tea in the salon decorated with Kenzo cushions.
As we were the only guests that night we were showed all the rooms, and we were allowed to change our room type in case we would have liked to do so.

Rooms: we stayed in the "ebene room" which is on the 1st floor.
It's a long room with a big double bed (not an actual bed but a kind of elevated platform with a good matress on) at one side, a big bathtub in the middle of the room, 2 wash basins on either side of it (traditional syrian soap and good towels provided), a wardrobe, a separate toilet and cosy corner with flatscreen TV.
It's contemporary so sometimes the design takes over from functionality; the only thing I missed near the bed was a bedside light which can be dimmed and a nob to hang the towels on.

Do note that the bathrooms are integrated in the room, our room had separate toilet but this is not the case for the other rooms (check the hotel website for correct info).

The terrace is white, white, white, with daybeds and an inviting plunge pool.
Unfortunately we did not have the time to try out the hammam...
In the evening candles and moroccan style lamps are lit.

Breakfast: European breakfast beautifully laid out on the white table: freshly brewed coffee, too many tea's to choose from, croissants, fresh figs (seasonal fruits), yoghurt, a nice choice of cheeses, traditional pastries and ah you should just try it yourself !

Free wi-fi.
Mosque nearby. I woke up, my husband slept through the prayer call at 04.30am. Miss Raya informed us beforehand of this which was thoughtful.
We parked our car, free of charge, in one of the streets near the entrance of the medina.
Dinner in the dar can be booked in advance.

We really had an enjoyable stay and it was like staying at a friends' house; just as you should feel when staying in a dar/ riad.
