Imagine Africa arranged for us to stay at Plantation Lodge after a long day on safari through Lake Manyara - just arriving on the property relaxes you. It is a beautiful spot that can almost make you forget you are on safari. Our suite was fantastic - spacious, all the amenities, and extremely comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. We had a wonderful evening getting to know the owners and staff - a great experience all around. Its location is perfect as well - one could stay for a few days and easily see Tarangire, Manyara and Ngorongoro. Our only regret was not having more time to stay there.

We stayed at the Plantation for two nights. Too little time for this property. Gentle and helpful staff. We stayed in the Farm House with another couple. Huge bedrooms with a common living area. Two comfortable patios. Lovely dinners and breakfasts. Now, the only gripe I heard from our experienced Safari companions was that it takes about 2 hours to get to Ngorongoro Caldera floor and that takes some of the valuable game drive time away. But, my wife and I didn't mind it at all, and after 3 weeks on Safari, would have been happy to stay all day at the Plantation. They have wifi too.

Room Tip: We loved the Farm House, a good choice for two couples traveling together.

The Plantation Lodge was a beautiful place to rest in the middle of a safari. In contrast to the plains of the Serengeti, the rolling hills of farmland surrounding this oasis are surreal. Remarkably one of the best parts of our safari was a local bike tour that we booked at he lodge. We were able to visit a local home and market, ride through the gravel roads leading up to the plantation and speak with local children selling souvenirs.

We also took a walking tour to a local coffe plantation with beautiful views of the barley and wheat fields hundreds of acres in size. While getting to see acres of coffee plants, we did not get a tour of the actual coffee plant which was disappointing.

The only complaint our group of 10 had was that we were booked at the Garden House for 8 guests and a separate room for 2 guests. Athough we had booked 11 months in advance, they gave away the Garden House to another group the first night, putting us in nice accomodations but nothing comparable to the Garden House. The second night we moved into the Garden House which we were happy to do, however they also asked the couple that had booked the separate room to move into the Garden House also, and refused to compensate them for the room. Thankfully when we returned home and contacted Africa Travel Resource(ATR), they reimbursed us for the room out of pocket while they addressed the matter with the Plantation Lodge. Thank you ATR.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon and of all of the camps we stayed at in Kenya & Tanzania, this was by far the most comfortable and luxurious. We stayed in a honeymoon suite, which was huge - very comfortable bed, private deck, shower with two separate shower heads, bath, complimentary fully stocked bar, etc. We couldn't have asked for anythinge else.

The staff was incredibly attentive and kind, especially the hotel manager. I lost my Blackberry charger and she kindly took my phone and charged it for me. All around, service was top notch and not intrusive at all.

The food was amazing as well. Each room has a preset, designated table in one of the two dining rooms, a private waiter and a 3-course meal. The soups were incredible, meat/vegetables very well done and desserts flavorful. We don't eat much meat and they were very much able to accomodate us. They also packed an amazing picnic basket for us to take the day we visited the crater - really high quality. Breakfast is a buffet and you can order omelets to order. The entrance to the crater is 30 mins from the lodge. The bar is absolutely lovely but it was empty the two nights we stayed there. Guests must be tired from safari, but if you have the energy, I'd highly recommend.

The property is absolutely stunning - some of the most beautiful landscaping I've ever seen. The whole place has a very colonial feel. It's very tastefully decorated and incredibly clean and welcoming. I can't say enough positive things about our experience here. I wouldn't stay anywhere else and will be back again one day!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Eucalyptus suite, which was incredible. I can't comment on the standard rooms...

This lodge has a real colonial feel. It's tranquil and has lush gardens and a pool with a beautiful view.
The rooms are spacious and have a nice bathroom with a good shower! (rare in Tanzania;-))
The lunch and dinner are a menu, the quality is really high standard. Breakfast is a basic buffet and you can order your eggs. The quality is of the breakfast is good, but nothing special.
The massage option was a welcome bonus!
Wonderful to spend some nights!

The attention to detail in this place was unbelievable. We stayed for 2 nights at the Plantation Lodge as part of a 2 week safari trip. We arrived full of sand from 2 days of camping in small tents. As we walked onto the property, people came, took our bags and carefully wiped them down for us as we were shown our rooms. Service throughout our visit was excellent.

The place is absolutely gorgeous down to the smallest detail. We met the owner (German woman), who suggested that we walk up a hill to see the fields of coffee trees. She then had one of her workers take up on a tour, all for free. Very gracious.

The food was excellent and overall it was a great experience. Note that they do have WIFI access (and it is free).
