“Beautiful Property.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

For our visits to Lake Manyara, The Crater & South Serengeti, this was most conveniently positioned.
Their rooms are HUGE, clean & airy; their staff extremely cheerful & efficient; the grounds sprawling, postcard-pretty & excellently maintained; their packed safari breakfast/lunch "boxies" adequate.
If, at all, I have a gripe (a TINY one!) it's that while their food is good, it could use a slight improvement.
Having said that---I'd definitely not stay anywhere else in the area.
Thank you, Farmhouse---it's so very easy to recommend you to people looking for an excellent place to stay!

Modest property. In searching out properties my one night at Farmhouse was included on this stay. I was looking for something more moderate in cost for a larger group. This property seems to be more suitable for larger groups than individual stays. While the service is accommodating, the staff seems to be prepared to accommodate larger groups and their needs, perhaps because there are more larger groups than individual travelers staying here, at least that was the case while I was there. The rooms are adequate, can be far, it is a larger property, and at night can be quite dark, going to some rooms. I found I had to walk in the dark to ask an askari to walk with me - as there was not one near the room I was heading to. Depending on what you are looking for, this property may fit the bill both in terms of adequacy and pricing. It does offer a pool and the grounds are quite nice. Dining is in a huge hall, set up almost like a cafeteria, buffet style, but still tasty.

This lodge is right between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro crater, so very convenient for a stopover when visiting either one of these 2 parks. You stay in a double banda with large bed, fire place, huge bathroom and a wonderful view into the landscape. Some of the Bandas are quite a long walk off the dining room, but there are enough porters helping you with the luggage.
dinner was superb, I never before ate such delicious vegetable dishes, all fresh from the farms own production. Staff friendly and helpful. Lunch boxes can be filled as you like, but we were late and there was not much choice left.
Flowers everywhere. As I prefer more remote and small lodges this one was ok but too many guests there. There are 40 or more Bandas!
Negative: our guide, who is our friend, was not allowed to join us for dinner, he had to stay with the outher guides at a seperate table. Very unfriendly and rude behaviour and although the lodge is beautiful etc. we didn`t feel very comfortable because of this.

Room Tip: try to get a banda not too far off

We stayed at Ngorongoro Farmhouse for 2 nights on a recent safari around Tanzania and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was comfortable and clean and very spacious; the food was fantastic; the staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful; and the hotel grounds are beautiful. There is even free wifi in the main bar area. The only down side is that the farmhouse is about 45-60 minutes from Ngorongoro Crater itself. Overall though we would definitely recommend this as a greta place to stay in Tanzania.

We stayed for 2 nights in this amazing lodge in the middle of stays at 2 tented camps. This was actually the one I was least looking forward to as I really wanted to stay in tented camps for the whole of our trip. The advice we were given to stay in a lodge in between was spot on, and Ngorongoro Farmhouse is amazing! Down a little dirt track off the main road, nothing prepares you for the burst of colour from the flowers in the parking area. Then into a lush oasis of fruit trees, grass and vast farmland. We stayed in 'Kanga' which truly blew us away. A detached bungalow overlooking farmland, huge area inside, massive balcony. We couldn't believe it was all ours. From looking at some of the other accommodation we definitely had one of the bigger rooms. Most were semi detached and some attached on both sides like little townhouses. All are a walk through lush gardens. The main house where the bar and restaurant is was stunning. We sat round an open fire drinking beer and enjoyed dancing with some of the local villagers who had been brought in. They came around and sat chatting to us about their life and culture which was really interesting. The food was amazing, not enough local dishes, but homemade sauces and ice cream! Yum! All the staff were really friendly. We put a heap of washing in to be done and it was waiting for us back in our room the next evening ready to be packed away. We also bought coffee beans which were direct from the farm to take home. ( the coffee is served in the restaurant as well). Amazing place!!

We stayed 2 nights whilst on Virgin holiday's Taste of Tanzania safari and it was a perfect choice for this type of holiday. When we arrived about 6pm from a full day's safari, hot, tired and dusty, we did not feel out of place having a refreshing beer on the terrace overlooking the fabulous gardens and coffee plantation beyond, before going to our huge room to bathe in the vast tub. The food was buffet style, very nicely laid out, plentiful and very tasty. The pool area was very attractive, but unfortunately we didn't have time to use it.
All in all l would highly recommend staying here whilst on safari, as it does the simple, but important things really well in a pleasantly laid back way.
If you have time, stay an extra night and break up safari days with a relaxing day at the farm house, to enjoy all it's facilities.

Room Tip: If you don't like to walk far to reception/restaurant etc you may wish to request a room nearer...
