“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

I stayed at Springlands for 4 nights within a 2 week period while in Tanzania. Before and after climbing Kilimanjaro and again, before and after Safari. The place is charming. Much of it is outdoors which I loved. Rooms were basic, clean and adequate. Food was ample and very good. Staff, warm, pleasant, helpful. Springlands is part of Zara Tours and they have a great philosophy about helping their staff with financial management tips, language education and much more. I am glad to have played a small roll in this by patronizing Springlands.

Stayed for a night either side of a Kilimanjaro trek with GAdventures. For a hotel in mid Tanzania, can't really complain - and some of the previous complaints on here are well out of order - it is a hotel in the middle of rural Africa, what more can you expect??!!! Rooms were great, comfy, excellent air conditioning units that worked a treat. Clean toilets and bathrooms. Service staff really helpful and friendly. However, my friend and I stayed in 4 rooms in total, all had useless showers - really nothing more than a dripping tap - not hard to rectify with a little application. Also, reception staff about as unhelpful as they could be - asked them for a a total of 6 various things over my two days there and was told NO on all 6 occasions (one being as simple as "can I have a couple of rubber bands please" whilst looking at a pile on the desk in front of the reception guy !!)
As a base ofr leaving for a Kilimanjaro trek, really very good considering

Hi,
We appreciate the comment you posted on TripAdvisor, Springlands hotel page. We have noted your concern about the showers and we have had all the showers and water heaters changed and they are all working.
Concerning the reception staffs, i have personally talked to them as the owner and informed them that they should consult the management whenever a client requests for a service and they are unable to provide or advise.

Regards,

Zainab Ansell.

Stayed here in mid-June. We booked with Zara for Mt. Kili trip.

We arrived around 1am. The very small we room we got, presumably the only one available at the time, was only barely adequate. I'm not one to complain much - but in the morning after a very short 4 hour sleep, there was no water. All I wanted to do was shower after 2 very long flights. I got someone to turn on the water, but the hot water heater did not work. So I had a cold shower. I believe the room number was 75.

After the Kili climb - made it to the top! - we stayed in a larger 3-bed room, number 37. It had a functioning air conditioner. The shower drain was easily clogged (don't let your female partners shave). As others have stated, there is sewer gas/smell that permeates the room if you do not close the bathroom door and turn on the fan/air conditioning. Hot water heater worked fine, however, so that was a relief.

The buffet food is just ok. Bland but a welcome change after a week's diet on the hike. Breakfast is included in stay; $10 for dinner, $2 or $3 beers.

A day room can be had for half the price of the night's stay.

You can rent hiking gear - everything from sleeping bags, boots, jacket, gloves, trek poles, gaiters, bags, etc. You can also store your luggage while you're on the trip.

There is shuttle service for $2 to center of Moshi. There is one shop, it has everything, that is run by a woman who will properly convert prices in shillings to $ (1500 sh / $1 instead of 1000 sh / $1). No haggling here, which is actually nice. You can also do last-minute shopping at the airports in Kili and Nairobi.

All in all, the people at the hotel are very nice. As long as you're only here for a day or two in transit while you're going off/coming back from your trip, you should be able to manage. If you think you're entitled to a Hilton or Marriott experience - you need to have a reality check.

Room Tip: Room 37, 3 beds, large, just have to deal with some kitchen noise beyond the bathroom and sewer smel...

Hi,
We sincerely appreciate the comment you posted on the TripAdvisor, Springlands hotel page. We have checked all the rooms in the hotel and fitted new showers and heaters. We have also fitted more breather pipes to avoid back flow of gas from the sewer manholes.

Regards,

Zainab Ansell.

This will seem like paradise after trekking/climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro! The meals are buffet style, the rooms are basic with a private bath/shower, but there is free wifi, a pool, nice grounds and an army of support staff plus a BAR! The facility is reached via a dusty rutted road outside of Moche with a security gate and armed guard. Makes you wonder why that is necessary?

Room Tip: Stay away from the dining room. It gets noisy!

As others have stated here, the hotel itself is not great. We also had issues of sewer smell in our rooms, and the bathrooms/showers were a bit less than adequate.

However, our 7 days climb (Shira) with Joseph (Photo) as the guide and his crew was simply amazing! Can't say enough good things about him and the trip and trek he provided - if you go, ask to have him guide you personally!

On our departure date from Springlands, we confirmed with reception the night before that even though we had a very early departure the next morning, our breakfast would be provided (as stated in our Zara voucher). The front desk staff confirmed this, yet on our departure morning, no one knew anything about this. This left us food-less (with a flight) for many hours...not the nicest.

Overall - Zara is a good tour operator - but accommodation could definitely be improved!

Hi,
We sincerely appreciate the comment you posted on TripAdvisor, Springlands hotel page. We apologize for the inconvenience caused on the morning of your departure, there was lack of communication between the reception and the kitchen which brought all the confusion. We have worked on that and all the clients departing early from the hotel are taken care of before they leave the hotel.

Regards,

Zainab Ansell.

Like many others, we spent a couple of nights at springlands either side of our kilimanjaro trek. The rooms absolutely stank of to the point where sleep was impossible. The general organisation and communication of important details was poor, however the food was fair and the staff extremely polite and friendly. Not worth the price tag.

An important place to start/finish a Kili Climb or Safari. Nice pool, well taken care of with proper chlorine and no algae. Good Alfresco dining - breakfast and lunch were included in the rate. Staff is always standing by to serve. Massage Therapist is down to business and very good at recovery for climbers' legs. The staff is motivated by tipping and even so , this is a good value because they really work hard for them. Nice Gift shop with friendly attendent. I eqquipped myself for my climb using the gesr rental shop. Bag check troom works well for storage during the climb. Good, Inexpensive shuttle to Moshi Town and JRO Airport.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to be decent
