“Chicagoans loved Linkside2”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2009

Dear Petra,

Thank you so much for a most enjoyable experience in Mossel Bay. We are only sorry that we did not have more time to spend. Your guest house was a bit of luxury that we would have liked to enjoy longer.
Talking to the frogs was a unique experience! We loved it, and loved our time with you. We appreciate you going out of your way to make our stay wonderful. Dinner at Jazzbury's was amazing as well.
We will certainly be back.

Many thanks,

Kathryn, Mary Ann, and Susan

Petra our host was very helpful and welcoming in this B&B close to the town centre in a quiet residential area. She provided a well appointed room with terrance onto the garden.
Her recommendation for dinnet (Jazzbury) was superb and i would recommend it to anyone.
The only issue is Mossel Bay itself has little to attract one and to make you spend time there.

Linkside2 was a “lucky find” for us. The house is located on a slope overlooking Mossel Bay where the best views of the bay are from the breakfast/dining room. The accommodation is nothing short of what you would expect from a small boutique hotel. Petra, the owner, and her team are friendly and hospitable in the true sense of the word. When we arrived, only the staff were there and did a lovely job in welcoming us and getting us “checked in” which was simply a small form to fill in. When we came back a few hours later, Petra was home and came out to the parking lot to greet us. One really feels welcomed here.

The parking is off-street and secure with a solid gate which you get a remote control for during your stay. On the other side of the house is a lovely well maintained garden which has a lot of space and exudes a very relaxed atmosphere.

We stayed in Room 3, a wonderful suite that overlooks the garden with some sea views. This room boasts a lovely set-up, a lot of attention has been paid to details such as lovely wall pictures, some light reading material, a mini-bar, a private outside deck with a table and chairs and sun lounges. The bed is incredibly comfortable – the best we’ve had on our whole trip so far.

For the technically inclined, the room has cable TV and Linkside2 also has complimentary WiFi access. The signal, however, wasn’t strong enough to reach our particular room, so we had to sit upstairs, which is very nice since you get WiFi plus the wonderful views of the bay. Internet speed is probably as good as it gets in South Africa (for us, it was the best speed we ever encountered in places other than, for example, Internet Cafes or WiFi lounges).

The breakfast is wonderful, with a lovely fruit-plate to start things off. After that, you order whatever you want, and Petra and the team prepare it to perfection. A note: another contributor mentioned that she felt uneasy with the habit of “photo taking” at breakfast (Petra keeps a guest book with pictures of those who have visited Linkside2). We had no issue with this whatsoever, and we actually found it to be a personalized touch. However if you do feel uneasy with it, just let Petra know!

General words about Mossel Bay. Mossel Bay lies at the western end of the Garden Route: the town itself is not as lovely as, for example, Knysna or Plettenberg Bay, and we found there to be less activities than further east. As such, the Linkside2 is probably an ideal one- or two night stay for anyone starting the Garden Route from here (going east) or just having completed it (going west). We aren’t golfers, but apparently there are some great golfing opportunities in the immediate vicinity, which could be another reason to stay here for a longer time.

With its boutique hotel characteristics, the Linkside2 is also a great place to “sit out” a rainy day or two, if you are lucky enough to be on a flexible schedule and there is room available. One could easily lounge on the sofa upstairs, enjoy the views and read a good book, while Petra and her team brew you a fresh cup of tea or coffee and spoil you with cookies. The place offers a homely feeling that goes well beyond what hotels can do in this respect!

We stayed for one night and everything was lovely except that we were asked to have our photos taken at breakfast which we found quite invasive and weird.

Unfortunately we only had a brief and fleeting stay in Mossel bay before heading on, but the guest house was beautiful and modern, owned by the extremely friendly Petra!! We were given a very warm welcome and the room we had was extremely nice!! The bathroom was very modern and the shower was incredible!! Breakfast was lovely and we were given a great restaurant recommendation by Petra!! I would thoroughly recommend staying here if you are in Mossel Bay. The only downside was we only stayed for 1 night!!

We spent two days of our honeymoon at Linkside 2. We were warmly welcome by the lovely Pedra. The room was beautifully decorated and very tidy and clean. A lovely view from our breakfast table and of coarse a wonderfully presented breakfast in the morning. We had wonderful conversations with Pedra about her history in the business, her family and even her art collection.
