The reception was bad, the room "nice" if you only use it for a sleep over and 1 night only. We have ask for self catering and the kitchen was not suitable at all for self catering.
The only positive thing is the lovely restaurant downstairs at the sea, lovely to take walks along the sea and going to visit the cave and lighthouse.

In our room, we had problems with hot water in the evening on our arrival day. The next morning one of the children took a quick shower in our room and by the time we wanted to shower, there was no hot water again. The water was better on the next day, atleast in the morning we were able to shower with hot water. There is no wardrobes, so I do not understand, where must one put their luggage and hang their clothes, they really need to look into this. In 2012 to be a place without wardrobes, is appauling.
The rooms are definitely clean and they have beautiful views.

Affordable, neat and clean accommodation for stay-over! Breakfast voucher a good arrangement. Would like to bring to your attention the unwelcome smell of cigarette smoke whenever bathroom fan is used. Walking distance from restaurants and coffee shop. We enjoyed the stop-over!

Room Tip: Discuss reason for stay - will be able to choose from different interior themes.

Our first problem was in the underground car park. The lights went out as we took our bags from the boot. We had to feel around in the dark, falling over the bags, until we found a door. We had requested a twin room and they'd confirmed twin beds and 'far reaching sea views'. The room had a double bed and no sign of the sea. Finally we were taken to a suite on the 2nd floor which was a lovely room. However, the safe was not working, neither was wi-fi, supposedly available 'in the entire hotel'. First I was offered use of a safe in another room, then it was realised that one needed to pull off the metal name-plate and use the emergency key. Wi-fi didn't work on the 2nd floor so I would have to go to the 1st floor to use it. Meanwhile...as I waited for someone to come about the safe I'd used the bathroom sink and couldn't turn off the hot tap. It swung out and sprayed the floor. I'd had to hold the very hot tap in place with a towel while trying to turn it off. Finally got it down to a drizzle. The girl who came for the safe also had a go. She eventually shut it almost off but it was apparent that the hot tap was not available for use until properly fixed.

I have a walking disability and cannot use stairs without a left hand rail. My companion had gone out and after wasting so much time I tried to go out also. The lift was dead as a dodo. On pressing the button there was no sound nor light showing that the request had registered. I tried for about 15 minutes, then called for help down the stairwell. No response. My afternoon in Mossel bay was therefore spent somewhat trapped on the 2nd floor with no way down, no phone in the room and no Internet.

Lastly, we'd paid R130 for breakfast before we realised that this gave us a voucher for that amount to use at one of a number of restaurants. The first 3 we tried were closed so we returned to the hotel and asked for a refund.
We then went into Mossel Bay and had a lovely breakfast for half the price.

The rooms themselves had the potential to be really nice, especially with a view with the sea. However, the staff were fairly unhelpful and seemed irratated that we asked to switch rooms seeing as ours stank of smoke. We did eventually move and the smell was better. The bathroom smelt awful though and the ventilation window led on the the corridor which meant to corridor never smelt pleasant. Mossel Bay was a great place and the hotel is in a good position but we did not enjoy our stay and it was the worst night we had in South Africa.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Point Village Hotel has made a significant statement with its presence at the entrance to the popular Mossel Bay Point recreational area. The Point Village Hotel offers luxury accommodation in 16 en-suite rooms, each with its own kitchenette, as well as 7 suites with self catering facilities, each with 2 en-suite bedrooms and fully equipped kitchens and 6 fully self catering units with 3 bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, lounge, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. The atmosphere is chic yesterday that blends with modern today in a relaxing holiday feeling. The hotel rooms are very spacious, luxurious and furnished in contemporary stylish but unpretentious themes. The hotel has not only become popular with South Africans but has also become a first night venue for hikers on the World Renowned Oystercatcher Trail. A typical quote is from Gary Welsh, the leader of one of the hiking groups who spent a night here on Sunday last week, before setting off on the 4 day walk along the coast to Gouritz River, "Great and spacious rooms, modern and in a way futuristic. The decor is stimulating and unusual, moving away from the normal ‘copy and paste style’ of most hotels. The locality is indeed, unbeatable." ... more   less
