“A perfect place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

After a three week tour of SA and stopping at 13 different overnight accommodation spots I can honestly say that from a woman's point of view Alida & Noel (Alida probably though) had thought of everything you could possibly need, everything from flannels to a hair dryer, bath sheets & even chocolate, they not only recommended some amazing restaurants but called through & booked for us too, Noel has some very funny golf stories & Alida lays on a fantastic breakfast. Thanks to them both for making us so welcome, a definite 5* b&b, oh, and nice views from the rooms too.

My husband and stayed a night at Aqua Marina Guest House on our drive from Cape Town down toward Port Elizabeth. It was a perfect overnight rest stop during our long road trip. Noel and Alida are very responsive with email and reservations. The Guest House is a great safe location overlooking the beautiful bay. Both our room and and ensuite bathroom had great views of the bay. To top it off, Alida is a great artistic chef. She made a yummy fruit and nutella crepe, followed by a tasty hot breakfast. Again, a great view of the bay in the dining room during breakfast too! Great place at a great value!

Alida and Noel made the 3 night stay at the Aqua Marina an absolute pleasure.
They are warm and welcoming, with a genuine interest in their guests.
Alida's breakfasts are the very best I have ever had whilst travelling.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, with enormous en suite bathrooms.
The only thing missing in the rooms is a table for the business traveller to work, although Alida set up the table on the veranda to make an office with a view.

The lounge is large and comfortable, with a huge HD TV and sound system. Noel, being a sports fan, will watch the sport with you enthusiastically.

The guest house is set on a quiet street away from almost all traffic noise, yet is very easy to find coming off the main highways.

The guest house has a North East facing veranda that catches the sun for the entire day

The view of the bay is beyond compare, with the Outeniqua mountains flanking the opposite side of the bay.
Whales can be seen breaching and spy-hopping in the bay and Noel was quick to provide a telescope for a better look.
Red legged Francolin come down off the ridge behind and entertain with their avian politics on the road in front of the guest house.

The town centre is an easy walk away, with the harbour, the Bartholomew Diaz museum and the Post Office Tree all a short down-hill walk.
Be warned though, it is hard work walking back up the hill!

It is very difficult to decide
Which is more amazing - the spectacular view or the luxurious rooms! The delicious home cooked meals and breakfasts are fit for a king.

On our two-week road trip around South Africa, this was my favourite of several different B&Bs in which we stayed. The attention to detail was superb. The full breakfast was perfect and made us sure that Alida was a professional chef (although she denied this). The perfect level of friendliness -- warm, welcoming, genuine smiles. The offer to make dinner reservations for us at a nearby restaurant, was a very nice extra touch that made us feel special. Our room was great! Every little extra touch we needed was there (air conditioning, coffee maker, mini-fridge, wifi, even slippers). A beautiful view to top it off. Don't think of staying anywhere else in the Mossel Bay area.

Another one-night stop on our way from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth but what a lovely stop it was. From initial booking (we found Aqua Marina on TA and went with other reviews) we kept up an occasional e-mail exchange up to actually getting there. Noel being a cricket fan helped to keep things spicy! On arrival we were greeted by Alida. What a lovely lady, we could not have been made more welcome. Unfortunately Noel had been delayed getting back from George Airport so we did not meet up with him until later. Alida made a booking for us at a local restaurant, Gannet, which we enjoyed a lot, then when we got back Noel had turned up and we spent a nice time chatting with not just Noel and Alida but other guests, just like old friends round a table with a glass or two of wine. Very warm.
Breakfast was fabulous, beautifully done and presented. Best of our trip. Another very nice gesture when Noel produced some sparkling peach wine to celebrate Cheryl's 50th birthday that day, and Alida very thoughtfully and kindly presented Cheryl with a birthday gift. They had obviously noted this fact when we booked.
Our room was lovely with, by far, the biggest bathroom of our trip, if not ever! Took my road map in with me to find my way around! Lots of little touches which, no disrespect Noel, we suspect were Alida's doing. Great view off the verandah outside the room too. Don't know if we will ever find ourselves in Mossel Bay again but there is only one place we would stay if we do. We love you guys!

Room Tip: Sailfish Room on the first floor was lovely, with great view from balcony over Mossel Bay

We really enjoyed our stay at the Aqua Marina Guesthouse. We had a very warm welcome by Noel and later by Aldia. Both are so lovely and we wished to stay longer but had to continue our trip. No breakfast during our trip was so great as in Mossel Bay and we also had a fantastic view over Mossel Bay during having our breakfast. Thank you very much for everything. We will choose this guesthouse again.
