A lovely very cute place
yes it is basic and you get what you pay for, people need to be realistic and not complain about this place!
We had a twin room with bathroom, average size room, fly nets were provided, bedroom was clean. Yes bathroom was damp, and it does look dated and needs a refurb, but i loved my stay there.
Vevant who works on reception (and in the bar, takes food orders, generally what ever is needed!), has good english and likes to talk to you to improve. Please take the time to speak with him, he is a lovely person to meet.
Breakfast is quite funny..everyday it will be an omelette, toast, banana and tea/coffee
I did not do this but believe they will prepare a take away lunch for you if you want to take something on the Gorilla trek (i recommend you take something, i had snack bars i all ready had with me)
order your dinner early, average time is approx 1 hour for the food to be served to you, but what is your rush..soak up your surroundings whilst you wait!
If you are planning to spend some time doing the Gorillas, Diane Fossey Trek, Golden Monkeys, Besoke trek, then the key is location ! you have to meet at the headquarters each day at 0700, and Kinigi Guest house is a 4 min walk away! (but you will need a driver each day)
My friend and i did Rwanda on a budget, and made our own way from Kigali to Kinigi using local buses which saved us a fortune! But we had to book a driver for the treks. If you need a contact, please email me as i have an email and phone number of a very good driver/guide you could use.
Only down side was my bed was not vey comfortable (but i am fussy), my friend did not have a problem with her bed.
we did need to ask for extra blankets the first night as it was a bit nippy
