“The best budget place to stay/eat in Diani/Tiwi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Drop your idea of staying on Diani. This must be one of the nicest stretches of beach in the whole area. Ben and family have a little cove which, if you are lucky, you and your group might have all to yourself.

It's a beautiful spot for camping, swimming, eating, drinking and they also have a decent self-catering house that can be booked for large groups or singles or couples.

I stayed for New Years Eve (2012-2013) with a bunch of friends and we had the whole place (and beach) just for us - it was excellent! Ben and family made us really welcome.

It's quiet but it's a short taxi ride to Diani's attractions or you can easily walk along the beach during the daytime to an array of other hotels/restaurants etc.

I would absolutely recommend this place.

“Support an enterprising local”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

We were staying at the Amani Tiwi Beach Resort and fancied eating somewhere else for a change. We discovered that just up the beach, around 100 yards north, is this little bar and restaurant owned by Ben. He's not been going long but will cook for you whatever you want. He specialises in Seafood and Swahili dishes. We had BBQ seafood and, to be honest, it was a little overdone. Ben wanted feedback though so we told him to cook the seafood less. If you want the BBQ seafood tell him to wait until you arrive before he starts cooking it. We gave Ben a small deposit, so that he could buy the beer and wine, the evening before and then gave him the remainder after the meal.
It was lovely sitting on the beach under the stars with a bonfire. The hotel security will probably try to stop you from going onto the public beach at night (worried for your safety!) but Ben will meet you at the hotel boundary with a torch and escort you to and from his restaurant.
If you fancy eating locally this is about all there is at Tiwi. Give it a try. Ben (ask him about his trips up Kilimanjaro) is trying to get his buisness going and deserves some support.
