Carrying on with our journey from (basic but clean Jacaranda hotel review) we headed out of Nairobi to start our Safari towards Lake Nakuru, there were 6 of us in the minibus which was comfortable, we all got to know each other, so hello to Gordon, Ann, Cathy & Paul (NEWLY WEDS) and to Preuis our driver/guide.this drive was going to take approx 3 hours with the obligatory stop at various trinket/souvenier shops en route. We stopped at a place just as you enter the Rift Valley which had terrific views and if you are prepared to haggle some great wood carvings sold by locals. We arrived at Nakuru national park where we were all amazed at the variety of all the animals and how close you could actually get to them, we came across Rhino, Baboons, Zebra, Warthogs loads of antelope but no lions, leopards, cheetahs . After a drive through the park we then went for lunch at LAKE NAKURU LODGE.This place was brilliant and if i could book to stay there i would have done. The food was included in the package and you could help yourself to as much or as little as you wanted, drinks to be paid for. The staff were very attentive even though we were only there for an hour or so, but sat on the verandah at lunchtime with the views of the lake and th troop of baboons only a stones throw away were great. After lunch we then drove out of the park towards our overnight stay at the Naivasha Simba Lodge, again our driver asked if we wanted to go to a lake where we could go out on a boat a see families of Hippo, this was at an extra cost approx £20 but we all agreed to do it before arriving. Out on the lake for over an hour loads of hippos, the guide then coaxed fish eagles down to feed and then we landed and went for a\walk amongst the wildebeest and giraffe, fantastic. On arrival at the lodge our rooms were alreadt allocated and it was just a case of let the porters show you the way. Rooms were very comfotable but again with single beds, quite modern, sitting room with TV in the corner. On loking out of the window you could see big piles of droppings so you knew that animals came right up to your accomodation. The facilities here were great, the food was very good, the staff again very helpful. The bar was fine and you could sit out/in which ever you prefered and be waited on, nothing was to much trouble. Dont forget to pay your bar tab before you go to bed as it will only follow you on to the next lodge for payment (wont it Cathy/Paul). After an early breakfast its then time to depart to the next lodge in the Masai Mara which is approx 4 hours drive, see you at Mara simba lodge review to carry on our journey
