“Trip to Kisumu Kenya”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2015

For a first time trip to Kisumu Kenya it was a wonderful experience. The hotel restaurant was pretty good and very good and polite wait and bar staff. It is a fun place at times in the evenings and a quick walk down the road to the impala reserve. They say never go or stay in the same place twice when you vacation/travel...but I for one would try it for a second go around and make new memories of Kisumu!

The hotel is in a good location, with good service and very nice food. All rooms face the lake, and one can relax and watch the beautiful sunset. A silent place that is good for business person who would want to have some extra work done. The rooms are very spacious, with working air conditioning systems.
However, the hotel is a bit run down, and in dire need of renovation. The lift does not work, so if you are on fifth floor (include a mezzanine floor), you are sure to exercise on your way to your room. The paint in the room I was staying in was coming off.. Not a good sign! Then the use of Instant Shower heads in the bathrooms! This is a big No! Finally.. Lighting.. Use of "energy saving" fluorescent bulbs just spoils the day.. The hotel seemed to have been fitted with beautiful chandeliers, but these have been modified so that the energy-saving bulbs can fit in.
I would still stay here if I travelled to Kisumu again, but I think the place needs more attention, otherwise it will be run down

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with lake-view.. especially rooms from 3rd floor to 5th Floor. However, be ready to ex...

The hotel is strategically located next to impala reserve and in a quiet place away from noise of kisumu city at the shore of lake Victoria. Timely refurbishment is needed in rooms especially bathrooms and replacing old bath tabs

Room Tip: Choose rooms facing lake Victoria for fantastic view of the lake, birds and enjoy cool breezes from t...

To the African Standard this is the Hilton hotel. To westerners it's budget basement hotels. It took 3 room changes to get a room that had hot water (with no eleroctuions) they gave us a room where people where already in (not good for security) the beds are very hard, no air conditioning, nothing works, bar staff are very sly they try to make you pay more and give you half change.... This is poor as we would have tipped any way. Food was good, drinks are very cheep but you will pay "mazungo" prices not local prices. If possible stay some where else.

Its one of the best hotels in Kisumu in terms of natural location. Great lake view and awesome staffs keep it up! They have standard rooms that are good but they need to work on their Lifts as well as some rooms need to be renovated.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the lake.

We had a lovely lunch at this classic and well loved Kenyan hotel. For me, it was mostly a return to memory for I stayed there often as a child with my father and family. The whole Tilapia fish ( freshly caught that morning barely kilometers away !!!) and local ground maize meal "Ugali" with traditionally grown and cooked vegetables is an absolute must-have !! A great and lively swimming pool area ( with a few international and mostly local tourists including the local area University students ), a beautifully kept garden and lawn area, spacious seating and awesome peace and calm....in a nutshell, the memory was kept alive and you can be sure you'll enjoy the stopover,( at least for the lunch ! ) . Service was good, ample parking and security available at this hotel situated in one of the upmarket suburbs of wonderful Kisumu.

The location of the hotel was beside Lake Victoria. Its has a pleasant and calm environment. I stayed in a deluxe room which was very neat and comfortable. The standard rooms are not that good. Food was decent. There was no wifi in the room . You had to come to the lobby to access wifi and even then it was intermittent. TV had only two channels and it was not clear. Overall experience was average.

Room Tip: Opt for a deluxe room. It is clean and comfortable.
