Hidden at the end of an alley in the city of Gondar (within a walking distance from the piazza and the fort), Fogera Hotel is a nice art-deco Italian period house with four rooms. Each room has its own design. N.3 has rooms covered with flower wallpaper and copies of Italian master paintings, N.4, the most beautiful, has a great wall of stained glass that produces a great light atmosphere. As it is written in the Lonely Planet guide, the rooms ask for a desperate renovation (especially the bathrooms) and the curtains fell dramatically as we tried to open them. Cleanness is also not a great quality here and guests should check their beds before going to sleep. But the property includes bungalows installed in the garden and called tukuls as their design is inspired from local architecture. Tukuls are more recent, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The added value of this place is the shady garden, an excellent place to have a beer on the late afternoon, with dozens of birds – including eagles – flying around you on a very near distance.
