This 16-tent lodge is perfectly located for spending a few days in the Okavango Delta. It's only a 20-minute charter flight from Maun and about 1.5 hours by charter plane from Kasane. The luxury tents have everything you need, including an outdoor shower and animals walking right in front of your tent and even coming into the camp on occasion. It's operated by the same group that runs Chobe Safari Lodge, Gunns camp, Pom Pom camp and Nata Lodge. In my view, Moremi Crossing is the better option between upmarket Gunns and MC, as the airstrip is right at Gunns and the aircraft disturb the peace. MC is a short boat ride (like 5 minutes) from the strip and the lodge does it all for you. From the minute you arrive you are treated to incredible hospitality. You are fed non-stop, and the service is discrete and of a very high standard. The relief manager, Wilmie Jansen, is a gem and made our stay exceptional.
There are no game drives, so excursions are either by boat on the river or on foot in the Moremi game reserve. Our guides, Amos and Pilot, were exceptionally well trained and very safety conscious at all times and in many more ways than just the obvious. They are flexible and adapt to what their guests want to do and were very good company. Bird life here is twitchers' heaven.
The lodge has a pool, a good curio shop selling books, clothing and other souvenirs and a large communal area with a bar and lots of space to sit and relax.
Because it's so remote, the meals are off a fixed menu, but they were great. Before walks in the morning you are served toast, fruit, yoghurt, cereals and freshly baked muffins. You get back at 10 and at 11 you can have bacon and eggs or the lunch of the day, which consists of salads and quiche or lasagna or noodles or something like that. At 3.30 you are fed on fruit and pastries again before you set off on your sunset cruise or walk. At sunset you are served your favourite tipple with snacks. Dinner is at 8 and is a 3-course meal which was delicious every time. If you go for drinks before dinner, you can have snacks again if you like! The kitchen staff were very well trained and the food was really delicious every time.
There is no mobile signal, internet or even landlines, but the staff communicate with each other and their office in Maun by radio very effectively, so no worries in case of an emergency and they also take care of confirming your charters etc.
Forget about the more expensive options in the Delta, this one is a winner!
We had no 8 closest to the communal area but they are all great.
