“Wow....just WOW!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

This was the most incredible experience. I'm not even sure how you can describe it, from the beautiful scenic (but a little scary!) drive through the jungle and over the ash plains to the volcano itself it was just amazing. This was definitely one of, if not the most fantastic experience we've had whilst on holidays.
Tips:
Wear or at least take long pants & long sleeve shirt it was quite chilly, especially after dark
Take water & a snack it's a long trip
Take a torch if you intend to be there after dark, the walk back down is tricky

“Brilliant fireworks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

Our guide stayed up on the mountain with us well after dark, and the volcano was rated a "2" that day. At night rocks were being hurled 300 metres into the air - it took 8 seconds for them to fall back down - and the two vents joined forces a few times and spat out sheets of liquid rock. A great show. DO NOT take young children, or rash people - it would be easy to get very scared for children. The force of the explosions at times knocked the wind out of your lungs. It rained at night, and a rain jacket is a really good idea.

“A must do if you visit the island”

The visit was absolutely a must do (and I'm not that into volcanoes). One of the true highlights of all my travels.

“Stunning Spectacle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

I have travelled all over the world in the past 25 years, and seen so many of the world's great sights in Europe, Asia, Australasia, Africa, India, and the Americas. This is right up there with the very best of them.

The raw power of Mother Nature, viewed up close and personal, in a way that simply would not be possible in countries that adhere to current western standards of occupational health and safety. Awe inspiring indeed.

It can get cold up on the crater rim, so make sure you have appropriate clothing. And be prepared for bumpy ride to the crater.

Best photography is just as night is falling, with enough light to show the ash clouds, but dark enough for the showers of lava to glow like fireworks as well.
