“This is one resort where the photos dont lie”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2010

We stayed in 3 resorts on Santo and Moyyan was by far the best

When we left Moyyan for transfer to the airport, the comment I made to host Justine was “best holiday ever”!

We arrived on our anniversary day and the crew at Moyyan made it memorable.

During our stay we were made to feel like one of the family, there was no discomfort that you might experience at other resorts, instead of limitations on activities we were encouraged to indulge, no charge for use of the equipment, they even lent us their boat to go exploring the islands, without even asking !

Location is 20mins from the airport, 10 mins to the nearest blue hole and snorkelling for WW2 wrecks in the sea. Champagne beach and Lonnoc easy half day trips.

Beautiful daily continental breakfasts served by Catherine who provided silver service -like waitressing and Johnnie who looked after us in the evening, yet without being too attentive to intrude. The food was notches above the other resorts of Santo and that was a standout for 2 food lovers.

We already thought the food on Santo far surpassed the restaurants of Port Vila but when Cameron cooked our first meal of Santo Beef we knew we wouldn’t need to be going anywhere else.

I asked where they bought their produce from which The Chef simply pointed out to sea, i laughed thinking he was taking the mick, but then he informed me their seafood is delivered daily by boat and hand picked for the best quality, to say the least our last night there was Lobster and a nice bottle of white watching the sun go down.

We stayed in Bure 3 and woke up each morning to the sun rising over the glistening aqua water. This is one resort where the photos dont lie, the accommodation was superb, a huge king bed, impressive timber design and immaculate bathrooms, ipod docks in the room, torches for nite walks on the beach; pukka !

With so many other places to explore its rare I would return to the same place again .... but Moyyan will be an exception.

My new hubby and I just returned from our honeymoon in Vanuatu. We began our trip in Santo and spent 5 magic days and nights at Moyyan. Wow! We had an absolute blast and the management and staff made us feel truly welcome and cared for. As the weather was not picture postcard perfect for the first few days Justine did her best to try and organise other activities for us and we had a ball. Hubby and I did everything from canyonning, climbing, caving, river swimming (at the wee hour of 5:30am), jungle trekking, scooter hooning...you name it - i think we gave it all a good go! Of course we also did some magic snorkelling (the best just out the front of our fare...very cute little reef spots at your doorstep and practically no one to have to share them with - perfect! Our time in Santo was so fantastic that our days in Port Vila afterwards could not come close to matching the experience, service, scenery and serenity that we enjoyed at Moyyan. Thank you to Justine, Cameron (amazing chef - yummo), Anne and all the rest of the Moyyan family (in particular the beautiful staff who cooked for us, cleaned for us...and did our washing - you were awesome!!!!!). There are many places to visit in the world and so little time to do them all but we would definetely consider making a second trip to Santo...and of course, to Moyyan House by the Sea.

We stayed at Moyyan for a total of 5 nights after seeing it on the australian travel show getaway. From the moment we arrived Justine, Cameron and the team made us feel completely at home in their small part of paradise. The resort itself has only 4 Falles (although a couple more under construction) so its very quiet and secluded. Despite this, Cameron is an outstanding chef (the only ex pat chef on santo) and John mixes a mean cocktail for sundowners on the deck (only a few meters from the waters edge) The falles are so close to the beach you will fall asleep and wake to the sound of the water hitting the sand. The Moyyan is the perfect launching pad to explore santo - champaign beach and the blue holes are amazing. The staff, food and accomodation are fantastic. The atmosphere is so welcoming and relaxed we felt like we were staying with old friends from day one. Already planning a return trip with friends to show off what we have found

My husband and I spent 5 nights at Moyyan, arriving on 23 September. We were met at the airport by Justine who imformed us that she and her husband Cam had only taken over the resort 3 days before. My heart sank as I imagined chaos while they tried to get a grip on things but if she had not told us, I would never had know such was the professional approach from both of them. The takeover appeared seamless but I know a lot of effort was involved to make it seem that way. Justine's warmth and hospitality was unequalled and Cam's talents in the kitchen superb. We ate evey dinner there and all were delicious especially the Santo beef.
The accommodation was excellent with the bures being only a step away from the beautiful white sand beach. Enormous trees line the beach so there is plenty of shade and the beach is wonderful for swimming with clear, warm water and some live coral..
The staff are delightful and Justine will organise tours to visit the Millenium Cave, the Riri River, Big Bay, the Blue Hole and the gorgeous beaches up the eastern coast. It is much better to go with a local guide who knows where to go as blundering around in a rental car, you can very likely miss some of these hidden places.
Breakfast is included and consists of juice, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit , delicious homemade preservesand toast. Maybe when they get a little more established, home made muffins, croissants, banana bread or something similiar could be added to make it a little more interesting.
One thing I have noticed is the increasing unfortunate habit of resortscharging interest on credit card payments. While we were in Queensland last year it was 3.5% and to our dismay at Moyyan it was 5%. To my knowledge it has not yet appeared in NZ and I hope it does not, but this has to be factored in when you are working out your overseas holiday budget otherwise it comes as a shock when you come to pay
Despite that, it was a lovely resort and we would heartily recommend it to anyone..

Hello our Bay of Islands friends!, so lovely to hear from you and thank you kindly for such a lovely review, we really appreciate it. We also very much appreciate your personal emails assisting us with helping Moyyan become a eco friendly property, we have our garden composte well under way already!
You will be glad to know that we have introduced an extra option for breakfast - alternating muffins and pastries, banana breads and other delicious breakfast additions.
You are absolutlety correct in regarding the surcharge and this is very much a well discussed topic amongst all resort owners in Vanuatu, unfortunately we are bound by these charges imposed by the banking institutions. We have personally found these charges popping up all over the world also and we wish New Zealand the very best in putting a stop to this.
We will definitely ensure that all future guests at Moyyan are aware that for every $AUD500 spent, a surcharge of $25 will be processed if they make payment by credit card. We will definetely encourage direct deposits to by-pass this fee.
We are so glad you had a great time, we always reccommend the Millienium Cave based on your experience!
Kindest Regards,
Cameron and Justine

Just spent a week at Moyyan.
Firstly let me say that we are very fussy.
What a delightful place, set amongst huge trees right on the beach looking out over turquoise sea.
Great staff with Marg and Ann very helpful and attentive. We were made very welcome.
Moyyan is well situated, not too far from town and handy to other attractions. It was very peaceful..no roosters or barking dogs.

For a couple of days/nights we had quite strong trade winds blowing which meant we had to keep the wooden shutters closed on our room so when inside it was a bit like being in a box frustrating because there are such stunning views from each room.
This is a very intimate boutique resort with only 4 units (2 more being built), it's own beach and private setting.Excellent swimming.
They have kayaks and an inflatable runabout for guests. We used the boat to explore up and down the coast and to visit the beautiful uninhabited island opposite ..great memories.
We would love to return one day.
Feel free to ask questions.
Cheers Geoff.

My Husband and I spent our honeymoon at The Moyyan. We loved every minute of it, from the luxury fares, to the breathtaking beach and friendly staff who are more than willing to give you advice on what to go see on Santo. The fares where very comfortable, the food was great and fresh and the beach was just divine.

Santo island was magnificent, with the blue holes, the riri riri river and champagne beach being some of the main attraction.

I highly recommend the island of Santo and the moyyan as a honeymoon destination, as it is a piece of heaven, quiet, beautiful and a place to get away from it all.

Our Paradise found. If you are looking for a relaxing and romantic destination Santo's Moyyan House By the Sea is perfect. Luxury on the beach. It's absolutely worth going the extra 45 minutes by plane from Port Vila.
The staff are friendly and accommodating. There is no menu to choose from but the set menu is fresh and delicious. The accommodation is first class. Ask for Villa 4! The Millennium Caves are a must if you are the adventurous type and of a reasonable fitness...but plan it well as you'll probably be a little sore for days after. Just down the road from Moyyan is Riri River which is absolutely stunning and also a must.

We couldn't fault it. If you are after shopping, nightclubs, crowds and children don't head here!
