We stayed for two weeks for our honeymoon and had a fantastic time. Yes it is not 5 star but the resort is clean, the staff friendly and helpful and the food was brilliant. The fale's are basic but clean and liveable. Whilst the surf didn't eventuate whilst we were there the snorkelling kept us busy and didn't leave us disappointed. Steve and his family made us feel welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The price was reasonable.

I was two weeks in the resort and had a awesome time there.

The resort is very clean, the staff is helpfull and friendly and the food is a highlight every day. I find it a good value.

The surf is in front of the resort and when it is on very good. Very nice beach and also good for non surfers to swimm and snorkel.

Very good fishing!

I can highly recommand this place!

Thank you Steve for the super time.

We had six great nights here. I had booked as it is also a 'surf camp' and my husband is a keen surfer. Unfortunately the waves failed to materialize for our stay. Having said that the wonderful weather, great beach, friendly hosts and excellent meals were such that the surf just didn't matter. The tuna salad on the lunch menu was fantastic. The dinner buffets rivalled anything we have had at more upmarket establishments. The Resort was very well maintained and kept very clean. A brilliant place to forget about the stresses of work and chill with a book. Highly recommended. A huge thank you to Steve and Anau and all the family and staff.

Ha'atafu is a great place for a family holiday. Don't expect entertainment laid on but when you have:

Snorkeling in a beautiful coral reef environment that is safe for the kids and right outside your door.
Kayaking.
Good surf.
Great fishing at a reasonable cost.
Terrific food.

What more do you need? Pack a book, grab your togs and relax.

You and your kids will have a ball and a holiday to remember.

Incredible value surf holdiay destination!
Beachfront accommodation, some world class waves (if fickle at times), perfect white sand beach, great snorkelling, small boat game fishing, whale watching. Laidback atmosphere. No crowds. Unbeliveable food.
All a 2 1/2 hour flight from Auckland.
Will continue to return thanks Steve, Seseika and Team

If you are after a luxury beach resort, this is not your place! .....

The beds were unbearable, we would have rather slept on the floor but there were too many mosquitoes (not that the mosquito nets provided were in good condition, so we would have been no better off).
When you asked the staff for anything (eg ordering a sandwich or salad) they gave you the impression that you were bugging them and it was a hassle. They would first finish their tea/food, then the round of cards they were playing and then, finally serve you. There is a tv room that the family/kids of the owners took over so the guests very rarely watched what they wanted to.
I understand that when you stay at some resorts they charge for activity rental - however these guys took that a little too far. Steve mentioned to a group of us there were a couple of spare seats on the boat if anyone would like to join them in the early morning fish. So two of us put our hands up and went along (just observing and not fishing) that afternoon we spotted 'fishing trip $30 AUS plus 15% tax' on our bill - we wouldn't have minded if we were told of the cost. My partner and I took a double kayak out (that leaked and was very, very dirty) with two broken, half paddles (so we were essentially canoing) and were charged for kayak hire!
The rooms were not serviced unless you asked, and fresh towels were a foreign concept to them.

And for the positive? Steve's wife was lovely! The food was delicious - tastes like what your grandma would make (full cream ... yummy). The guests and company we traveled with made the trip very enjoyable and we turned a not so pleasant situation into fun.
The beach is nice and good for swimming at high - mid tide.
Please don't get me wrong and think that I'm a fussy person, I can certainly put up with these kinds of things - it just wasn't what we were anticipating!
